Sanjay Raut calls Fadnavis "Joker of Politics" over graft allegations
"After U.S. President Donald Trump, Fadnavis is the joker of politics," Raut remarked.
Fadnavis, while attending the Parivartan Dahi Handi event at Mumbai's Jamboree Maidan, has said that change in the upcoming municipal elections is inevitable, claiming that corruption under Shiv Sena's long rule in the BMC will be exposed and development will prevail.
Responding to this, Raut countered that during Shiv Sena's tenure, deposits worth Rs 90,000 crore were safely placed in banks. He alleged that corruption occurred under the BJ-led government, with leaders from Fadnavis's side "misappropriating" these funds.
"Those indulging in corruption are within your cabinet. Don't shield the thieves, crooks, and looters around you. Otherwise, Maharashtra will not forgive you," Raut warned Fadnavis.
He further alleged that while the state treasury is empty and no clarity exists on who has been awarded which projects, commission worth 25% from contracts totalling ₹2 lakh crore has reached people close to Fadnavis. UNI SP SSP

Big GST cut may rev up demand for small cars, hatchbacks likely to attract 18% tax against 28% now
Small cars are likely to be placed in the 18% tax slab, substantially reducing the tax burden on them, people familiar with the matter said. Small cars of 4 metres and less in length and engine capacity up to 1,200 cc (petrol, CNG and LPG) now attract 28% GST and 1% cess. Large cars and SUVs are likely to face the special rate of 40%, they said. Currently, these vehicles attract 43-50% tax, which includes GST and cess. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads NEW DELHI: The proposed goods and services tax (GST) recast could perk up the small passenger car market, which has been under pressure for some time amid a growing preference for larger vehicles such as SUVs. Currently, these vehicles attract 43-50% tax, which includes GST and will likely be no change in the GST rate for electric vehicles, currently at 5%, the people Minister Narendra Modi announced an overhaul of the eight-year-old indirect tax in his Independence Day speech on Friday. 'We are bringing next-generation GST reforms. This will reduce the tax burden across the country. This will be a gift ahead of Diwali,' he had said in his said the Centre has proposed a two-slab structure, retaining the 5% and 18% rates and scrapping the 12% and 28% levies. A 40% special rate has been proposed for six-seven items, they to the proposal sent to the group of ministers (GoM) on rate rationalisation set up by the GST Council ahead of Modi's speech, daily-use items are likely to be placed in the 5% bracket, while aspirational consumption items for the middle class and industrial goods are likely to face 18% GoM will take up the proposal this week, the officials said. A final decision on the proposal will be taken by the GST Council, likely in the third week of September, ET reported Sunday. White goods such as dishwashers and large televisions are also expected to be placed in the 18% bracket, down from 28%, which could boost consumption demand further.'If there is an 11% reduction in GST, the ex-showroom price of small cars will come down by 12-12.5%,' said VG Ramakrishnan, managing partner at Avanteum Advisors . 'Even if the absolute cut is in the range of Rs 20,000-25,000, it will be a huge positive on consumer sentiments.'The tax reset is likely to spur demand at the more affordable end of the market. But with compact SUVs like Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch in the sub-4-metre fray, this uptick may not remain limited to the hatchback segment.'Car buyers today are aspirational and have access to financing solutions. And some of them are preferring to jump directly from a two-wheeler to compact SUVs rather than a small hatchback,' said the head of a major automobile dealership based in Delhi-NCR. Total levies on small cars stand at 41-42%, he said. This includes GST, registration tax levied by state authorities and of compact cars and hatchbacks fell 13% to about one million units in FY25 from the year before, less than half that of SUVs at about 2.35 million, industry data accessed by ET sales rose 10.2% in FY25. The share of small cars in the overall passenger vehicle market fell for the fifth straight year to a low of 23.4% in FY25. It dropped further to 21% in the first four months of the fiscal year, which has seen an overall slowdown in car veterans attributed the drop to a 30-40% jump in small car prices over the past five-six years due to tighter safety and emission norms.'Entry-level consumers are not able to afford cars because of high prices,' said Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer, marketing and sales, at market leader Maruti Suzuki , in an interaction earlier this month.

Vice-presidential elections: Maharashtra governor Radhakrishnan is NDA's pick; INDIA bloc likely discuss its candidate today
CP Radhakrishnan and PM Narendra Modi NEW DELHI: Maharashtra governor C P Radhakrishnan (68) is all set to be India's next vice-president. The BJP parliamentary board on Sunday approved the name of the two-term former Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore for the constitutional post, which is twinned with that of chairman of Rajya Sabha. Rival INDIA bloc has declared its intent to field an "ideological" candidate to make a statement. However, Radhakrishnan's election is almost certain, given NDA 's superior strength: it has 427 MPs (Lok Sabha: 293; RS: 134) against opposition's 354 (LS: 249; RS: 105), which is comfortably above the required number, 392. Sources indicated the selection of Radhakrishnan - he belongs to the OBC Gounder (Kongu Vellalar) community, a dominant caste in west Tamil Nadu - may have been influenced by many considerations. These include his RSS background and long political innings, first as a Jana Sangh member and then as a grassroots neta of BJP. Not to mention the party's focus on next year's TN polls. CP, as he is known, served as governor of Jharkhand before being shifted to Maharashtra in what was seen as a leg-up. The Raj Bhavan stints understandably helped him gather administrative experience, which will be of use in conducting RS affairs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In Radhakrishnan, BJP now has another important Gounder figure after TN party ex-chief K Annamalai. INDIA bloc likely to discuss its VP candidate in today's meeting The INDIA bloc may kickstart discussions on its common candidate for the Vice-Presidential election at a meeting on Monday morning, when the alliance would also decide on the Parliamentary proceedings after a clash with the govt over SIR has virtually washed away the business in monsoon session. Sources said the floor leaders of the INDIA constituents will meet at the office of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge ahead of the proceedings, which gains importance because of the twin issues of VP polls and resumption of Parliament after the extended break for independence day. The allies may discuss the VP candidate, now that BJP which is tipped to win the poll announced C P Radhakrishnan as its nominee. The opposition has in principle decided to field a candidate to highlight ideological contrast with ruling camp.

NCP must get Nashik guardian minister post: Bhujbal
Mumbai: Minister for food, civil supplies and consumer protection and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal on Sunday intervened in the ongoing tussle between his party and the Shiv Sena over guardian ministership of Nashik and Raigad districts by staking claim to the post of the Nashik guardian minister. Chhagan Bhujbal (HT Photo) 'Our party has seven legislators in the district. So we should get the guardian minister's post,' Bhujbal told reporters. At present, the BJP's Girish Mahajan looks after affairs of the district. The tussle over guardian ministership between NCP and Shiv Sena erupted a week before Republic Day this year, when the Mahayuti government named BJP's Girish Mahajan and NCP's Aditi Tatkare as guardian minister for Nashik and Raigad, respectively. The move deeply upset the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, which had staked claim to both posts and proposed school education minister Dada Bhuse and employment guarantee minister Bharat Gogawale as guardian minister for Nashik and Raigad, respectively. Gogawale's supporters hit the streets after the government named the two guardian ministers while Shinde contacted the BJP's leadership in Delhi and forced chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to put the decisions on hold. Mahajan and Tatkare were, however, allowed to hoist the national flag in Nashik and Raigad on Republic Day. The tussle came to the fore again ahead of Independence Day, when Bhujbal was given responsibility of hoisting the tricolour in Gondia district. Bhujbal, who was keen to hoist the flag in Nashik, conveyed his inability to go to Gondia due to health problems. On Sunday, Bhujbal stirred the row again, saying though his party had been insisting on the Raigad guardian minister's post, it had only one MLA in the district. In Nashik, on the other hand, the party held seven out of 15 assembly seats. 'I will tell my party that we should insist on the Nashik guardian minister's post,' Bhujbal said. 'I will speak about this with deputy chief minister (and NCP chief) Ajit Pawar and (NCP) state president Sunil Tatkare.' Girish Mahajan, who currently oversees affairs in the district, said he would be the guardian minister. Mahajan was speaking at a programme in Dhule.
