Raipur: After the bodies of a woman and her minor son were found in separate but closeby wells in a village in Durg, cops arrested a man and his cousin for a plan to murder the woman he had promised to marry after being introduced on a social media platform.
Durg additional SP Sukhnandan Rathore, briefing the press, said that the entire incident is rooted in a failed love affair. The accused, Chhatrapal Singour, 26, along with his cousin Shubham Kumar Singour, 22, strangled the woman and her son to death and disposed of their bodies separately in two wells.
A sense of alarm was instilled in the village on Sunday after villagers discovered the bodies floating one after another as foul smell emanating from the wells, following which cops were informed.
The identity of the woman-son duo couldn't be identified initially as no one in the vicinity were familiar to them. An SIT was constituted under the SP to investigate. Police received a tip-off that the woman was seen frequently meeting with one Chhatrapal Singour, and he was picked for interrogation.
Initially, Chhatrapal gave vague and misleading answers but later revealed that the deceased, Sunita Chaturvedi alias Pallavi, 34, was introduced to him through Instagram.
Sunita told him that her husband had passed away and that she lived in Raipur with her parents and her 8-year-old son.
Chhatrapal reportedly promised to marry her and take care of her child. The duo continued with the relationship until the woman started demanding accountability and marriage. The accused had no intention to marry her and he repeatedly avoided her pleadings. Instead, he secretly married another woman one and half months back.
On June 18, 2025, Chhatrapal informed Shubham about Sunita's repeated visits with her child and he was adamant to remove this 'obstacle' from his married life.
Chhatrapal brought Sunita and her son from Raipur to his village Khamhariya on his electric scooter with an excuse to meet at an isolated place. Minutes after, Shubham joined them and the two strangled Sunita and her son in a field, cops said.
To destroy evidence, they wrapped the bodies separately in sarees, placed them in sacks weighted down with stones, and dumped them in the wells.
The victims were reported missing under an FIR at Civil Lines police station in Raipur. Sunita's kin identified the bodies, which were recovered 30 kms away from their home.

(Instagram/Lilly Tino) Tino, born Nicholas Contino, identifies as transgender and often calls herself a 'lesbian.' She's known on TikTok for her controversial videos but a series of June 2025 uploads may have crossed a legal line. Reflections of women and young girls were visible in the background, none of whom had given consent to be filmed or photographed. Faces were not blurred, and the photos weren't edited to crop anyone out. ALSO READ| Did Live Nation and Travis Scott get sued for Astroworld tragedy? Everything you need to know Now, at least two women have said they're preparing to take legal action. One of them, a mother whose child appeared in the background of the photos, is reportedly working with an attorney. Both are considering civil lawsuits for invasion of privacy and emotional distress. How much prison time could Lilly Tino face? If convicted, Tino could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine under Florida's strict privacy statutes, which prohibit unauthorised photography in settings where people expect a reasonable degree of privacy, such as restrooms. 'This man's bathroom photos are trophies,' J.K. Rowling posted on X. 'He wants women and girls in the background because it proves he's violating women's boundaries. Without actual females there as props all he's got is a selfie of a scary-looking creep in mouse ears, which isn't remotely what he's after.' Two petitions began circulating in the days following the Disney bathroom photos. One calls for Tino to be banned from Walt Disney World, while the other demands that TikTok remove her account permanently. Nationwide McDonald's boycott begins tomorrow: Here's everything you need to know

A nationwide boycott of McDonald's is set to begin on June 24 and run through June 30. It is being organized by The People's Union USA as part of its ongoing 'Economic Blackout Tour.' Nationwide McDonald's boycott begins on June 24.(REUTERS) The boycott targets the fast-food giant for rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, along with broader criticisms of its corporate behavior. Speaking to USA TODAY, John Schwarz, the founder of The People's Union USA, said, 'We're boycotting McDonald's because they've shown time and time again that profit matters more than people, from price gouging to tax evasion, from inequality in pay to exploitation in advertising. "And yes, their DEI efforts feel more like promotional stunts than real systemic change. We're done funding companies that pretend to stand for something while doing nothing." What Are the Group's Main Accusations? In an Instagram post, Schwarz detailed the group's grievances against McDonald's: "They exploit tax loopholes and do not pay their fair share. They engage in price gouging while wages stay low. They suppress workers' rights and union efforts. They support political figures who threaten democracy. They practice performative DEI with no meaningful change. They prioritize profit over people, community, and truth," he wrote. About The People's Union USA On its website, The People's Union USA describes itself as 'a grassroots movement focused on economic resistance, corporate accountability, and real justice for the working class.' Since launching the Economic Blackout Tour in February 2025, the organization has led previous boycotts targeting Target and Walmart.
