Filmmaker Manish Gupta was booked for allegedly injuring his driver with a kitchen knife, a Mumbai police official said on Friday. Gupta allegedly attacked his driver after an argument over the latter's salary.
The incident took place on Thursday night in Gupta's residence in Sagar Sanjog building, the Versova police station official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
'Gupta allegedly injured his driver Rajibul Islam Lashkar (32),' the official said.
Gupta was booked under sections 118(2), 115(2) and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace and other offences.
He is yet to be arrested, police said.
Lashkar's advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh sought immediate arrest of Gupta.
According to Free Press Journal, the FIR stated that Lashkar had worked with the filmmaker for three years, for a salary of ₹ 23,000.
However, Lashkar alleged that he was never paid on time.
On May 30, Gupta allegedly sacked him without clearing his dues. To earn back his money, Lashkar rejoined duty, but was still not paid, the driver reportedly claimed.
This led to a verbal argument between the two on Friday night at the filmmaker's Versova residence.
Lashkar alleged that Gupta stabbed him with a kitchen knife during the argument. He then rushed to the nearby Cooper Hospital.
After receiving medical treatment, he filed an FIR against filmmaker Gupta at the Versova Police Station.
A screenwriter and director, Manish Gupta has directed films like The Stoneman Murders and 420 IPC.
His last directorial venture was the 2023 legal drama, One Friday Night, which starred Raveena Tandon and Milind Soman.
He had earlier served as a writer in Ramgopal Varma's team, writing the screenplay of films like D and Sarkar.

Around that time, the group left the farmhouse to look for food, driving around Edulabad but failing to find any open eateries. 3 killed, 5 injured after car collision on NH-19 in Faridabad
Three men were killed and five others critically injured in a high-speed collision between two cars at JCB Chowk near Faridabad Sector 55 on National Highway 19 around 2am on Saturday, police said. The crash involved a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with five occupants and an MG Hector carrying three siblings. The deceased, all of whom were traveling in the Ertiga, have been identified as Trivender Singh, 28, of Krishna Colony; Manish Kumar, 30, of Banchari; and Deepanshu Kumar, 25, of Bhaguri— all residents of Palwal. The five injured were Satpal Singh, 28, of Bathen, Mathura; Bhupender, 27, of Narhawali, Faridabad, travelling in the Ertiga; and siblings Sahil, Somya, and Anshika—all in their mid-20s and residents of Sector 16, Faridabad, who were in the Hector. While Satpal and Bhupender were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Faridabad, the siblings were shifted to a Delhi hospital. All five are stated to be in critical condition, police said. Inspector Vinod Kumar Yadav, station house officer of Sector 58 police station, said the five Ertiga occupants were JCB India Limited employees returning home after a shift at the company's NH-19 headquarters. 'The Ertiga had barely moved 300 metres and was negotiating a right turn onto the highway when the speeding Hector rammed it on the driver's side,' said Yadav. 'Both vehicles overturned multiple times after the collision, and the Hector caught fire,' he added. Locals and passersby alerted the police control room and helped extricate the injured from the mangled vehicles. All eight victims were rushed to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital, where three were declared dead, police said. Police said Sahil was driving the Hector and was heading home to Sector 16 from Sikri, Ballabhgarh. Satpal was behind the wheel of the Ertiga and was driving towards Palwal. 'Prima facie, it appears that Hector was speeding and failed to slow down before the intersection, resulting in the crash,' said Yadav. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations at the civil hospital. An FIR under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against Sahil at Sector 58 police station, based on Bhupender's statement, officers aware of the case said.

Cops probe role of others in multi-crore fraud by former ICICI Bank employee
Kota: After ICICI Bank's internal investigation pinpointed Sakshi Gupta, a former relationship manager at the bank's DCM branch in Kota, as the key figure behind a multi-crore fraud involving customer accounts, Kota police have launched an investigation to determine if others were involved and requested relevant documents from the bank. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Tarun Dadhich, manager of the city's ICICI DCM branch, on Feb 18, 2025, submitted a report at the Udhyog Nagar police station alleging that Gupta, the former relationship manager at the bank, siphoned off Rs 4.58 crore from 110 accounts belonging to 41 customers over a period between 2020 to 2023. Following the police inquiry, Sakshi Gupta was arrested on May 31 and was remanded to judicial custody following a one-day police remand for interrogation. Udhyog Nagar police station Circle Inspector Jitendra Singh said Saturday that while the internal inquiry identified Sakshi Gupta as solely responsible for the fraud, the police have sought additional documents from the bank to probe the possible role of other persons involved with her in orchestrating the multi-crore fraud. However, Singh said, prima facie, no involvement of other persons has surfaced yet. According to the police, Sakshi Gupta withdrew funds from more than 110 accounts belonging to 41 customers over a span of two and a half years, investing the siphoned amounts in the stock market. However, she suffered significant losses. To hide the transactions from customers, she replaced the registered mobile numbers on several accounts with those belonging to her relatives, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were diverted from the actual account holders. In one instance, she used an elderly woman's account—without her knowledge—as a 'pool account', moving over Rs 3 crore through it by Feb 15, 2023. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The investigation also revealed that Gupta misused debit cards, PINs, and OTPs for unauthorised transactions, and even activated overdraft facilities on 40 accounts without customer consent. Further inquiry found she prematurely closed fixed deposits belonging to 31 customers, redirecting Rs 1.34 crore into unauthorised accounts. A fraudulent personal loan of Rs 3.4 lakh was also disbursed. Multiple transactions were executed using Insta Kiosk installations and digital banking platforms, with Sakshi exploiting four customers' debit cards for ATM and internet banking usage. The proceeds were transferred to demat accounts as part of an attempted cover-up. Meanwhile, an ICICI Bank spokesperson said Friday, "The interest of our customers is of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an First Information Report with the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled. "
