‘Duck Dynasty' star says Phil Robertson didn't ‘speak a lot' before his death at 79

New York Post27-05-2025

Korie Robertson spoke about Phil Robertson's well-being days before the 'Duck Dynasty' patriarch died at age 79.
Last week, she told The Post that Phil's health was 'declining really rapidly.'
Phil battled multiple health conditions, including Alzheimer's disease.

Korie, 51, who is married to Phil's son, Willie, 53, said that watching Phil while he was dying was 'so hard to watch.'
She added, 'But he's so loved, and all the family is just coming around him and taking really good care of him.'

Korie and Willie confirmed Phil's death on Instagram Sunday night.
'We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,' the Robertson family wrote in the post.

'Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus,' the statement continued. 'We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.'
The family added: 'We know so many of you love him and have been impacted by his life. We're having a private service for now, but we'll share details soon about a public celebration of his life.'
The hit reality series 'Duck Dynasty,' which originally ran for 11 seasons from 2012 to 2017, is back for a revival. Premiering June 1 (9 p.m on A&E) and already renewed for a Season 2, 'Duck Dynasty: The Revival' revisits the Robertson family.

As they say on the show, the Robertson family prioritizes 'faith, family, and ducks.'
The revival series now centers around Korie, Willie, and their six adult children and eight grandchildren.
The original 'Duck Dynasty' followed the Robertson family, who have the hunting and outdoor recreation business Duck Commander in West Monroe, Louisiana.

The Season 4 premiere scored over 11 million viewers in 2013.
Phil was part of the original show – and started the family business with a patented duck call – but in recent years, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
'He is not able to be on the show at this time,' Korie told The Post.
She added that she went to visit Phil with her daughter, Sadie, 27, shortly before his death.
'He's not saying very much anymore. He doesn't speak a lot,' she explained.

But, she recalled that during their visit, Phil 'looked up and said something like, 'full steam ahead.' It was so sweet.'
'He didn't say anything else that made sense, but he just said that to [Sadie], and it was just really special.'
The family was 'cherishing' those moments with him, she explained.

Phil also revealed that he had a secret daughter, Phyliss, 50, from an affair in the '70s.

Korie said that her mother-in-law, Kay, is also not doing well.
'She's actually in quite a few of the early episodes of this season,' Korie explained, referring to 'Duck Dynasty: The Revival.'
'As the season went on, she had some health issues, too. And she's not been able to be on anymore,' she went on. 'So we're just thankful that Kay got to be on some of the earlier episodes, and we're going to really cherish those.'

Nintendo Switch 2 launch, after an 8 year wait, draws big lines

TOKYO (AP) — Eager customers lined up outside electronics stores hours in advance in Tokyo on Thursday to collect their pre-ordered Nintendo Switch 2 video game consoles. The much anticipated Switch2 is an upgrade to its eight-year-old predecessor with new social features meant to draw players into online gaming. The new consoles were sold through a competitive lottery system that Nintendo said got about 2.2 million applications in Japan alone. Outside the official draw, some retailers offered their own lotteries to pre-order the devices. Koji Takahashi was among those who missed out on the official draw but he was selected in the second round of a lottery held by a major electronics retailer in Japan. He was first in line waiting outside the store, arriving four hours ahead of its opening. He hoped to secure a limited supply of Nintendo accessories to buy along with his pre-ordered Switch 2. 'I feel very sorry for those who weren't successful in the lottery. But I also had tough time getting this far, so I hope they forgive me!' Takahashi said. The new console comes with a larger and higher resolution screen than its predecessor, with improved processing power, offering smoother and more vivid graphics. Nintendo has said it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles for the fiscal year through March 2026. The company has promised to roll out attractive software for the Switch 2 later this year, including 'The Legend of Zelda' games, a Pokemon title and a Kirby game, as well as offerings from outside software companies. Nintendo is capitalizing on the launch with the opening of a store in San Francisco and the Super Nintendo World amusement facility in Orlando, Florida, both set for this month.

Huge blow as Chelsea star ruled out of Euro 2025

Chelsea defender Millie Bright has ruled herself out of England's Euro 2025 squad for this summer's tournament. Bright's decision comes ahead of Sarina Wiegman's squad announcement, with the 31-year-old admitting she is not 'able to give 100%' physically or mentally' to the Lionesses. England begin their Euro 2025 campaign against France on July 5th. 'This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but after careful thought and discussions with my team, I have decided to withdraw from selection for the England squad ahead of Euro 2025,' Bright said in an Instagram post. Advertisement 'Football has given me so much, and representing my country has always been my greatest honour. My pride and ego tells me to go but I think the team and the fans deserve more. Right now, I'm not able to give 100 per cent mentally or physically.' Bright's announcement follows the decisions of Mary Earps and Fran Kirby to retire from international duty. Earps has called time on her career with the Lionesses after being replaced as number one goalkeeper. Wiegman's squad will now be absent of several leaders from the squad's that won the European Championship in 2022 and reached the World Cup final in 2023. Bright captained the side at that latter tournament in the absence of injured Arsenal star Leah Williamson. The former has won 88 caps for the national team. Is Instagram the New Celebrity Dating App?

As the official start to summer approaches, many singles are on the hunt for a romantic partner to spend the season with. Some may be on the prowl at parties or swiping through dating apps, others may be shooting their shot on Instagram. For celebrities in particular, Instagram has become an unexpectedly successful matchmaker, with a growing number of high-profile couples crediting their love stories to private messages sent on the app. In December 2022, the country singer Kelsea Ballerini sent a direct message on Instagram to the actor Chase Stokes at 1:07 a.m.: 'hiii chase stokes.' A little over two hours later, the actor responded, 'Hey there how u doin.' They've been in a relationship for more than two years. Kyle Kuzma, the stylish N.B.A. player, sent the model Winnie Harlow a message on Instagram in 2019 and reached out again in spring 2020. She hadn't seen his first message, but she saw the second and replied. In December, they became engaged. The actress Vanessa Hudgens sent a message to Cole Tucker, a former baseball player, after spotting him in a virtual meditation session led by Jay Shetty. 'I get on the Zoom, and I'm like, 'Who is that?'' she shared on 'The Drew Barrymore Show.' 'If I want something or someone, I'm going after them. I fully just slid into his DMs and was like, 'Hey, it was nice to meet you.'' They married in November 2023. Natalie Joy DM'd the former 'Bachelor' Nick Viall in September 2019, after one of Mr. Viall's Instagram photos popped up on Ms. Joy's Explore page: 'You're unreal,' she wrote. In April 2024, they married. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
