Three area schools awarded grant money for SC Teachers committing to measurable student growth
The South Carolina Department of Education announced that the 37 schools will be participating in the Strategic Compensation Pilot Grants for their commitment to accelerating student growth in English Language Arts and math.
According to SCDE, the three schools from the CSRA that are among the 37 are Allendale-Fairfax High School, Saluda Middle School, and Batesburg-Leesville Middle School.
SCDE states that the 37 newly-awarded schools span urban, rural, and charter schools, and the average school award exceeds $120,000, with final allocations determined by student enrollment and classroom academic growth outcomes.
SCDE adds that there were 118 schools applying for more than $22 million in funding, and the demand for innovative strategic teacher compensation in South Carolina is undeniable so these 37 schools will serve as a model for rewarding excellence and ensuring that high-performing educators stay in the classroom.

(WJBF) – Georgia State Senator Blake Tillery (R) kicked off his campaign on Monday to be the next lieutenant governor of Georgia, joining the several candidates running for the position in the state. Comparing area private and public school test scores: 5 key takeaways from our reporting
Aug. 4—Changes by Ohio lawmakers to school voucher eligibility in recent years has led to a massive expansion in the program that allows families to use taxpayer dollars to send their kids to private school. Parents now have unprecedented school choice but limited information to help them make that choice. Our education reporter Eileen McClory is working to help with that with her recent analysis comparing private and public school proficiency scores. 5 things to know about her findings: 1. Some background: Private school vouchers now cost the state of Ohio about $1 billion a year. 2. Our analysis: Our reporters spent months gathering and analyzing datasets from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and talking to experts to create the best comparison available to parents of private and public schools.
