Two more persons died in the diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha 's Jajpur district, with over 200 people still undergoing treatment, officials said on Sunday.With this, seven people have died in the outbreak, which was first reported on June 9, Additional District Medical Officer ADMO ) Prakash Chandra Bal said.Over 1,500 people were diagnosed with diarrhoea in the district, and 1,300 of them have recovered, officials said."The situation is yet to be brought under control. When no new patients are admitted to the hospital, we will be able to control it," Director of Public Health Nilakantha Mishra said.Adding to the worries, 11 diarrhoea patients were found positive for cholera, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Bijay Mishra said.Samples of 21 of the around 200 people at present undergoing treatment were sent for cholera testing , he said.A 14-member central team has reached the district to assess the ground situation, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said.He visited various hospitals in the district during the day and interacted with patients and doctors."It is a matter of concern for us that cholera has been detected in Jajpur. A team from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has been deployed in the district. We are trying to bring the situation under control," he told reporters.Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) teams are disinfecting drinking water sources in the district, while food inspectors and disease surveillance teams are also working to bring the situation under control, officials said.ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and health workers have been supplied with halogen tablets and ORS packets for distribution among the people, they said.People have been advised to take all precautionary measures, avoid having outside foods, and adhere to hygienic practices, they said.Diarrhoea cases have also been detected in parts of the Cuttack district and the Astaranga area in Puri district, officials said.Over 30 people were diagnosed with diarrhoea in Gholapur village in Cuttack, and 20 people were affected in Puri's Astaranga, they said.Medical teams have been sent to those areas to tackle the situation, they added.

Bhubaneswar: Cuttack's Pooshan Mohapatra became all-India topper in the NEET-PG exam, the results of which were published on Tuesday. The 24-year-old had cleared his MBBS from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, this year. Pooshan, who got 707/800 in the exam, said, "I was hoping for a good rank, but did not expect to become AIR 1. After completing my internship in March, I seriously started preparing for the exam." Focused preparation between April and Aug helped me to get this rank," Pooshan added. "Her experience helped me to prepare well. She inspired me a lot," he added. Pooshan said he wants to do his PG in medicine or radiology. "I have not yet decided on the college where I will pursue my PG. I will make up my mind before counselling begins," he said. The NEET-PG was conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, on Aug 3 for admission to various PG medical courses. Diarrhea outbreak: Situation in Amritsar village under control
Amritsar: The situation in Khankot Sardara village is now under control, with no further deaths or hospitalisation reported, civil surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur said here on Tuesday. However, those who were hospitalised on Monday have since been discharged. The health department continued its preventive efforts by distributing ORS and zinc tablets on Tuesday as well, the civil surgeon added. Notably, two deaths were reported in the village due to diarrhoea, following which the health department swung into action. The villagers alleged that they were receiving contaminated water, mixed with sewage, which was suspected to have caused the outbreak. Earlier, Sakshi Sawhney, deputy commissioner, Amritsar, visited the affected village along with officials from the district administration. Diarrhoea claims 3 lives in Amritsar village
Amritsar: Three people died and around 18 to 24 others were hospitalised due to a suspected diarrhoea outbreak in the last few days in Khankot Sardara village in ward number 35 of Amritsar. Civil surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur, who visited the village on Monday, told mediapersons that two of the deaths were caused by acute diarrhoea and vomiting, while the third person had underlying liver issues. One of the victims was a woman. The civil surgeon said they have begun collecting water samples for testing. "While the tests typically take five days, we are expediting the process and hope to receive results within two days," she said. "Residents have complained of a foul smell in the water. We've called in the sanitation department and instructed immediate chlorination of water tanks," she added. The civil surgeon said that her team distributed oral rehydration salts (ORS) and zinc tablets to affected residents and advised anyone experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea or loose motion to begin ORS treatment immediately. "Sometimes pipelines get damaged due to external pressure, such as vehicles driving over them, which can lead to sewage mixing with the water supply," she explained.
