J.K. Rowling Responded To Rumors That She Would Fire Paapa Essiedu From HBO's "Harry Potter" TV Series
Another day, another story on J.K. Rowling 's involvement in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
At this point, you're well aware that the series itself has become a hotbed of discourse and criticism because the author has spent the majority of her post- Harry Potter career spending time — and money — essentially pushing back against the mere notion of trans rights.
The backlash has also reached those who have been announced as the show's cast, to varying degrees. This past week, Paapa Essiedu — who, as of this moment, is booked to portray Severus Snape in the series — was one of many British actors who signed an open letter supporting trans rights in response to the Supreme Court ruling.
On Sunday, J.K. seemingly took aim at those who signed the petition on Twitter. 'Some argue that signatories of these sorts of letters are motivated by fear: fear for their careers, of course, but also fear of their co-religionists, who include angry, narcissistic men who threaten and sometimes enact violence on non-believers; back-stabbing colleagues ever ready to report wrongthink,' she said in a very long statement.
Obviously, everything that's going on here would cause any passive observer to consider the possibility that, one way or another, Paapa isn't probably long for the Harry Potter world. But this morning, J.K. took to Twitter (again) to confirm that if he does exit the show, it won't be because of her.

HBO's ‘Harry Potter' series reportedly casts Harry, Ron, Hermione
The spell has been cast, and so too have Harry, Ron and Hermione in HBO's new 'Harry Potter' series. Dominic McLaughlin will sport the lightning bolt scar as the titular chosen wizard, while Arabella Stanton — who recently starred as Matilda in the West End's production of 'Matilda: The Musical' — and Alastair Stout will round out the trio as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, Variety reports. 'We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned.' Variety reports that over 30,000 hopefuls tossed their sorting hats in the ring since the fall. Also recently announced were the castings of John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The Hollywood Reporter first broke news of the show, based on J.K. Rowling's hit children's fantasy books, in early 2021. The show is expected to debut next year, with filming slated for this summer. The network has already promised 'a faithful adaptation of the beloved 'Harry Potter' books.' In April 2023, Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros. Discovery was 'close to a deal' enabling them to adapt each of the seven books for the small screen. Last month, the "Only the Good Die Young" singer-songwriter canceled all his upcoming concerts, revealing he was struggling with a brain disorder that causes a potentially reversible kind of dementia. Then last week, he divulged that he attempted suicide twice in his 20s after falling in love with his bandmate's wife and causing the downfall of the band itself. Joel said both he and his friend and Attila bandmate, Jon Small, were upset by what happened while Joel was living with Small and Small's then-wife, Elizabeth Weber. So upset that Attila — a Led Zeppelin-inspired metal band, according to the New York Times — broke up and Joel started boozing, which sent him into a tailspin. 'I had no place to live," Joel says in the documentary. "I was sleeping in laundromats, and I was depressed, I think to the point of almost being psychotic. So I figured, 'That's it. First, he took the entire lot of sleeping pills that his sister, then a medical assistant, had given him to help him sleep. That put him in the hospital. She thought she had killed her brother. Joel says in the doc that he woke up in the hospital still suicidal, hoping to do it "right" the next time. His sister said he wound up drinking "lemon Pledge" furniture polish. That time, an unlikely person took him to the hospital: Small, his then-estranged best friend. As for those impulses to harm himself, they wound up paying off for Joel after he checked out of a facility he had checked himself into after the second suicide attempt. 'I flew from Manchester to Ibiza and spent less than a night out in the UK'
A savvy Brit spent less jetting to Ibiza than she would have done on a night out in the UK. Savannah Southward decided against paying extortionate prices in Blighty. The 22-year-old booked some cheap flights to spend 17 hours dancing and soaking up the Spanish sun. Savannah and her pal Leighton Speak spent just £45 on their Ryanair tickets from Manchester Airport. The salon owner arrived around midnight and partied until 6am, before the pair headed to the beach. The pals sunbathed their hangovers away and topped up their tans before heading back to the UK. She spent £40 at the club and £15 on spending money so in total the trip costs her £100. 'Even though Ibiza is an expensive place I didn't spend more than I would on a night in the UK,' Savannah, of Wigton, near Carlisle, Cumbria, told Luxury Travel Daily. 'I think a lot of people do day trips abroad because there's always cheap flights and sometimes you spend less than you would in the UK. 'I would absolutely pick Ibiza nightlife over the UK, it's always so busy with so many options of clubs and music. 'We landed about 10pm and had some pre-drinks before we went to CamelPhat's opening party at Pacha. 'It opened at 11pm but we got there for about 12:30am and stayed until 6am. 'We then waited on the beach until it was time to go back to the airport about 12pm. 'We didn't go to sleep but we were definitely ready for a nap when we got on the plane. 'The whole night went so fast we didn't even have time to think about being tired. 'We both agreed it was the best night out we've ever had and now we know how easy and affordable it is we have rebooked for July.' The duo took the trip last month flying out on 20 May and returning the next day.
