‘Give for Good' challenge: what is it, how to join?

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — North Louisiana's largest day of philanthropy returns on Tuesday, May 6, featuring 232 organizations participating in the Give for Good day.
Give for Good is currently welcoming early donations, organized by the Community Foundation of North Louisiana (CFNLA). This year, they aim to uplift the community by reaching their goal of $3 million.
Their online platform provides each nonprofit with a customized giving page, where the organization can share its mission, programs, needs, and volunteer opportunities, according to Give for Good. Donors can easily browse, search, and filter participating organizations by sector or location.

'We are proud to sponsor Give For Good in our community for the 12th year,' says CFNLA CEO Kristi Gustavson. 'Give For Good day is always exciting and energizing as we watch the donation total grow and hear from our local nonprofit organizations about the programs and the people who will benefit from this community support. Every year, I am amazed at and humbled by the generosity and civic spirit illustrated through Give For Good.'
CFNLA says, donors can also contribute to the '', a bonus pool of over $200,000 that boosts donations made to participating nonprofits on a pro-rata basis. Participating nonprofits are also eligible to win special Give For Good prizes throughout the giving event.

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A record number of high school students have earned degrees through Bossier Parish Community College's dual-enrollment program. Disney on Ice to debut characters from 'Moana 2' and 'Inside Out 2' The dual enrollment program enables eligible students to earn college credits before they graduate from high school. According to BPCC, 112 high school students from North Louisiana graduated from the college. The most popular programs among these graduates included an associate degree in general studies, electrician technology, emergency medical technician training, nursing assistant, and welding. 'This achievement highlights the incredible opportunities that dual enrollment provides, and we couldn't be prouder, ' said Jamie Hilburn, BPCC's dual enrollment coordinator. While many students across the region participated, the most active engagement for the program came from Bienville, Sabine, Natchitoches, and DeSoto parish schools. LONGVIEW, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Ancient skills with a modern twist will be on display for free at the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center. For 100s of years, people have studied bonsai. The word bonsai comes from combining the Japanese word for pot or container and word for cultivate. The most simple translation is that bonsai is the art of cultivating dwarf trees. Bonsai is not a specific type of tree; many pines and junipers are typically used. It is any tree that is grown in a pot and artificially prevented from reaching its normal size. Bonsai is also not originally Japanese. Dancing and dirt at Shreveport Green's Volunteer Day Bonsai originated in China by the fourth century and spread to Korea. Through Korea, it spread to Japan by the sixth century and spread further, becoming popular in places around the world. The Gregg County Master Gardeners and the Longview Bonsai Society are holding a bonsai exhibition from June 20 to July 3. On June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a special seminar, 'Master the Possibilities: Intro to Bonsai,' will teach the basics of bonsai care and design and provide the opportunity to ask questions about the practice.
