HRTC implements revised bus fares; Volvo travel from Shimla Costlier by Rs 150
Shimla, May 9 (UNI) The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has implemented the revised fare structure for all stage carriage buses in the state, including ordinary, deluxe, and AC/Volvo services, with effect from Friday. The move comes following the state government's notification issued earlier this week, authorising a hike in both short and long-distance bus fares.
As per the instructions of HRTC, all E-tickets machine were being updated today and revision of fare is implemented with effect from Friday as per an order of managing director of HRTC Deva Sen Negi.
As the new rates came into force, passengers boarding Volvo and AC deluxe buses from Shimla will now have to pay significantly more. The fare for a Volvo bus from Shimla to Delhi has increased by ₹150, up from ₹1,000 to ₹1150, while the fare for Shimla to Chandigarh has gone up from Rs 425 to Rs 488.
Similarly, the Shimla to Dharamsala Volvo fare has risen to Rs1071, up from Rs 932.
Fares for ordinary bus services have also been revised. The per km fare in hilly areas has gone up from Rs 1.40 to Rs 1.60, and in plains from Rs 2.19 to Rs 2.50. Deluxe services will now charge Rs 1.95/km in plains and Rs 3.10/km in hilly terrain.
Officials from HRTC said the revision was necessary to manage the rising operational costs and to support the financial health of the corporation. The last such revision took place in July 2020.
Despite the hike, passengers will continue to receive discounts on Smart, Green, and Samman cards. These include a 10% discount on Smart cards for long-distance travel, and 25% and 30% discounts on Green and Samman cards respectively for travel within a 50-km radius.
With the implementation now active, commuters are adjusting to the new rates, while many hope that the additional revenue would contribute to improved services and vehicle maintenance.

Indian auto industry may face disruption amid China's stricter Rare Earth export controls: Report
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): The Indian automobile industry is expected to face disruptions following China's decision to tighten export controls on rare earth elements (REEs), which are critical in manufacturing chips used in automobiles, according to a report by Emkay Research. The report mentioned that China, which accounts for over 70 per cent of global REE production and controls more than 90 per cent of refining capacity, imposed stricter export regulations on several REEs from April 2025, citing national security and non-proliferation concerns. The report said 'The licensing for exports has become significantly longer. These delays have led to supply uncertainty across sectors reliant on these critical inputs'. It pointed out that electric passenger vehicles (E-PVs) and internal combustion engine passenger vehicles (ICE-PVs) are the most vulnerable within the Indian auto industry. Electric vehicles (EVs), passenger vehicles (PVs), two-wheelers (2Ws), and commercial vehicles (CVs), in that order, are likely to face the maximum disruption. High-performance EV motors, teh report said, require heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) such as dysprosium and terbium to maintain efficiency at high operating temperatures. For electric two-wheelers (E-2Ws), magnets used in motors cost around Rs 150, while in PVs the cost varies from Rs 2,000 to Rs 24,000 depending on the features. However, the issue is not just about cost but the availability of these critical components and the limited options for alternative sourcing. While ICE 2Ws and 3Ws remain relatively unaffected in the short term, E-2Ws that use permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are more vulnerable because of their limited design flexibility. As per report, while E-2Ws may undergo design changes in a short time (2-3 months), PVs and buses may require 6-12 months for complete motor redesigns due to stricter performance and space requirements. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), ICE-PV production could face cuts starting July 2025, while existing E-2W inventories may last only another 1 to 1.5 months unless alternative sourcing arrangements are made. Although countries like Brazil and Australia hold substantial REE reserves, with Brazil alone having 20 per cent of global reserves, China continues to exert significant financial and operational control over many of these resources. Chinese companies also hold stakes in Brazilian mines. In addition, while Vietnam and Malaysia host some refining capacity, they largely lack access to primary raw materials and remain dependent on China. The tightening of export controls by China is likely to create ripple effects across the global supply chain, with India's auto sector bracing for a challenging period ahead. (ANI)

E-Khata mandatory for building plan approval from July 1: Bengaluru civic body
BENGALURU : Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike 's Chief Commissioner Maheswar Rao said on Monday that E-Khata has been made mandatory for building plan approval from July 1. E-Khata is an electronic property certificate that maintains ownership information in an online database. According to BBMP , from July 1, the procedure of forwarding property ownership records to the Revenue Department for verification will also be discontinued. Rao also said under the "Trust & Verify" approach, preliminary plan approvals will be confirmed or rejected with valid reasons by the respective assistant directors (town planning) within a specified timeframe. The BBMP currently provides online building plan approval through the EoDB-OBPS software, said a release issued by BBMP. Additionally, the Revenue Department of the BBMP has implemented the E-Aasthi software, through which E-Khatas are already being issued for properties within the BBMP limits, the release said.
