's Chief Commissioner
Maheswar Rao
said on Monday that E-Khata has been made mandatory for building plan approval from July 1.
E-Khata is an electronic property certificate that maintains ownership information in an online database.
According to
BBMP
, from July 1, the procedure of forwarding property ownership records to the Revenue Department for verification will also be discontinued.
Rao also said under the "Trust & Verify" approach, preliminary plan approvals will be confirmed or rejected with valid reasons by the respective assistant directors (town planning) within a specified timeframe.
The BBMP currently provides online building plan approval through the EoDB-OBPS software, said a release issued by BBMP. Pakistan COAS Asim Munir Invited To US Army Day Celebrations On June 14: Sources

Last Updated: During this visit, the US is likely to urge Pakistan to take action against terrorist groups targeting Afghanistan and India Pakistan's chief of army staff General Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah is scheduled to visit Washington DC, for the US Army Day celebrations on June 14, top intelligence sources have told CNN-News18. He will join other military leaders to commemorate the US Army's 250th anniversary. According to sources at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC, Munir is expected to arrive on June 12. During this visit, the US is likely to urge Pakistan to take action against terrorist groups targeting Afghanistan and India. The invitation appears to be linked more to the ongoing US-China rivalry and Pakistan's strategic importance than any stance against India. Due to Pakistan's close ties with China through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the US harbours concerns about Pakistan's neutrality. Given the current geopolitical climate, the US is unlikely to view Pakistan as a credible or neutral mediator, said sources. This visit has also provoked political reactions within Pakistan, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) planning protests against Munir's visit and labelling him a criminal. Pakistan is expected to seek assurances from the US regarding the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating from Afghanistan. Historically, Pakistan has sought US mediation on various issues, while India firmly rejects third-party involvement. The US prefers bilateral dialogue and is unlikely to alter its stance in favour of mediation, sources said. Pakistan recognises the potential debt trap associated with China and is eager to attract investment from other global powers. The country possesses valuable resources such as lithium, copper, gold, and rare earth minerals, for which it urgently requires investment. However, Pakistan is wary of potential colonisation similar to China's approach. The visit aims to manage the strained security relationship between the US and Pakistan. Pakistan will likely pursue its agenda on mediation in Kashmir and seek investments in its mineral resources. However, tangible outcomes may be limited, as India is unlikely to accede to any external demands regarding Kashmir. First Published: June 11, 2025, 02:37 IST

Maruti Suzuki cuts near-term EV production amid rare earths crisis

Maruti Suzuki has cut near-term production targets for its maiden electric vehicle e-Vitara by two-thirds because of rare earths shortages, a document showed, in the latest sign of disruption to the auto industry from China's export curbs. India's top carmaker, which said on Monday it had not seen any impact yet from the supply crisis, now plans to make about 8,200 e-Vitaras between April and September, versus an original goal of 26,500, according to a company document seen by Reuters. It cited "supply constraints" in rare earth materials that are vital in making magnets and other components across a range of hi-tech industries. Maruti still plans to meet its output target of 67,000 EVs for the year ending March 2026 by ramping up production in subsequent months, the document said. China's curbs on some rare earth exports have rocked the global auto industry, with companies warning of severe supply chain disruptions. While some companies in the United States, Europe and Japan are seeing supplies easing as they secure licences from Beijing, India is still waiting for China's approval amid fears of production stoppages. Launched amid much fanfare at India's car show in January, the e-Vitara is crucial to Maruti's EV push in the country, marking its entry in a segment that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government wants to grow to 30% of all car sales by 2030 from about 2.5% last year. The setback could also hurt parent Suzuki Motor, for which India is the biggest market by revenue and a global production hub for EVs. The bulk of the made-in-India e-Vitaras are earmarked for export by Suzuki to its major markets like Europe and Japan around summer 2025. Maruti told reporters last week the rare earths issue had no "material impact" on the e-Vitara's launch timeline. Chair RC Bhargava said there was "no impact at the moment" on production, local media reported on Monday. Maruti and Suzuki did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday. Maruti shares trading on the Indian stock exchange fell as much as 1.4% to the day's low after the news. Maruti is yet to open bookings for the e-Vitara with some analysts warning it is already late to launch EVs in the world's third-largest car market where Tesla is also expected to begin sales this year. Under its previous plan "A", Maruti was to produce 26,512 e-Vitaras between April and September - the first half of the fiscal year. Under the revised plan "B", it will manufacture 8,221, the document showed, indicating a two-thirds cut in its production schedule. However, in the second half of the financial year - between October and March 2026 - Maruti plans to ramp up production to 58,728 e-Vitaras, or about 440 per day at its peak, versus a previous target of 40,437 for those six months under plan A. Two supply chain sources confirmed Maruti's plan to scale back e-Vitara production because of rare earth magnet shortages but were not privy to the exact numbers. The rare earths crisis comes as Maruti is already grappling to recover market share lost to Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra's feature-rich SUVs. These companies also lead India's EV sales. Maruti's share of India's passenger vehicle market is down to 41% from a recent peak of about 51% in March 2020. Suzuki has trimmed its sales target for India to 2.5 million vehicles by March 2031 from 3 million previously, and scaled back its lineup of EV launches to just four, instead of the six planned before, as competition in the South Asian nation intensifies.

E-khata mandatory for building plan approval from July 1 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Beginning July 1, BBMP will mandate submission of an e-khata for all online building plan approvals, BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has announced. This requirement, part of civic body's digital integration efforts, is aimed at streamlining and speeding up approval process. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Currently, BBMP's town planning department processes building plan approvals through EoDB-OBPS (Ease of Doing Business–Online Building Plan Approval System) platform, while property ownership records and tax details are managed separately via revenue department's e-aasthi system, which issues e-khatas. To enhance efficiency, BBMP is integrating these two digital systems. Once integrated, applicants seeking building plan approval will need to enter their property's e-khata or EPID number into EoDB-OBPS software. This will allow the system to automatically verify property ownership and tax records without the need for manual submission or forwarding of documents to the revenue department. "This integration will eliminate the redundant step of verifying property documents separately, simplify the process, and enable faster approvals," said Maheshwar Rao, BBMP chief commissioner and additional chief secretary, urban development department. The new rule will apply to all types of building plan approvals, including Nambike Naksha submissions. Additionally, under BBMP's new 'trust & verify' policy, assistant directors (town planning) will be required to either approve or reject applications with valid reasons within a set time frame. If they fail to do so, the system will automatically grant 'deemed approval'. In such instances, the respective zonal joint directors (town planning) must report the lapse to zonal commissioner for disciplinary action against the concerned officer.
