There is good news for India from the U.S. as Apple is planning to manufacture the majority of its iPhones for the American market in India. Majority of Iphones are produced in India. This decision is taken after rising taxes and geopolitical risks in China.
According to media reports, Apple is planning to complete this shift by the end of 2026, and reduce dependency on China. The company is in advanced discussions with its contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Tata Group in India. According to which they want to increase the production in the country. Currently, Apple sells over 60 million iPhones annually in the U.S. out of which 80% of these are made in China. India's PM Narendra Modi saw a dream to develop the country as a global smartphone manufacturing hub. However due to the higher import duties on mobile parts in India Iphone make manufacturing is 5-8% costlier than China. In some cases the cost gap reaches up to 10% in some cases.
Still Apple has increased manufacturing in India to reduce tariffs imposed by the former U.S. President Donald Trump on China. In March 2025, Apple shipped nearly 600 tons of iPhones from India to the U.S., valued at for $2 billion. This was a record of shipment for both Tata and Foxconn, with Foxconn alone contributing $1.3 billion worth of smartphones.
In April, the U.S. imposed a 26% duty on imports from India, which was lower than the over 100% duty on Chinese imports. Lateron these tariffs on non-Chinese countries were paused for three months, But Trump continued tariffs for China so the trade war between the U.S. and China continues and it's not beneficial for the companies like iphone. As reported by the Financial Times , Apple is expanding its manufacturing outside China and India is the top player among them.

Swiggy pilots travel and lifestyle concierge app Crew
Swiggy has launched a travel and lifestyle concierge app, Crew, on a pilot basis, according to information about the app published on Google Play Store. This marks the Bengaluru-based company's entry into a new business after food delivery, dining out, quick commerce and professional services. The app, which involves human concierges in addition to generative artificial intelligence (AI), helps users plan trips, going beyond simply suggesting itineraries.A Swiggy spokesperson did not comment on the year, ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), the company had started testing Rare Life, a personalised concierge service focused on elite and exclusive experiences. However, this project was discontinued after Swiggy decided not to scale it up beyond a small cohort. In January, the company rolled out professional services marketplace Pyng, signalling that it was following a house of apps strategy similar to Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Meituan, which have also had multiple apps for various services. This is in contrast to the 'superapp' strategy, where consumers are expected to come for one basic use-case and transact across multiple services. Also, superapps are yet to see any noteworthy success at scale in Crew and Pyng, Swiggy now has the main app, which houses food delivery, quick commerce, dining out and its events platform Scenes. The quick commerce unit, Instamart, also got a separate app in launch of Crew was first reported by Entrackr. Swiggy recently suspended its peer-to-peer parcel delivery service Genie, which was available in 70 cities. The company has also licenced its cloud kitchen brands to food service outfit Kouzina, with plans to fully transfer these businesses upon fulfilment of certain conditions. On Friday, Swiggy shares ended 3.1% higher at Rs 385.90 on the BSE.

The Congress claimed on Friday (June 20, 2025) that the Centre and the Bihar government have not fulfilled their promise of cleaning the Ganga and said in the last 11 years, the exercise of ridding the river of pollutants has become just an "election jumla". The Congress accused the BJP-led Centre and the JD(U)-BJP government in Bihar of not fulfilling their promise of purifying the Ganga and claimed that the condition of the river is such that its water is neither drinkable nor suitable for bathing. Addressing a press conference, party MP Manoj Kumar cited a report to claim that of the 13 STPs built for the Ganga and its tributaries in Bihar, only seven are working. He said the promise made to purify the Ganga water under the "Namami Gange" project has turned out to be false. "Narendra Modi and (Bihar Chief Minister) Nitish Kumar together neither took any step towards flood control nor made the Ganga water drinkable. Even the NGT imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the Bihar government," he claimed. Mr. Kumar said that due to the high amount of faecal coliform (FC) bacteria, the NGT has stated that the river's water is neither fit for drinking nor for bathing.

Once lauded by PM in Mann ki Baat, women-led millet factory in Bageshwar shuts down
1 2 3 4 5 6 Bageshwar: In Bageshwar's Munar village, a once-thriving women-led millet factory, praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 'Mann Ki Baat' address in April 2018, now lies abandoned, leaving 900 women jobless. The Maa Chiltha Cooperative Group, which ran the factory, has struggled for two years to maintain operations, and the unit has remained shut for the past year. "We turned our traditional grain into gold. The country recognised our work, but the system didn't support us. Policies changed, interest vanished, and we were left behind," said Tara Takuli, 60, who led the initiative. The women had successfully transformed mandua (finger millet) into nutritious biscuits that gained national recognition. Their products were once part of govt schemes for Anganwadi centres and pregnant women, and the enterprise had reached a turnover of Rs 15 lakh, providing livelihoods to over a thousand women and their families. The biscuits were also sold in stalls at govt-organised events. The decline began post-Covid, as govt support and bulk orders dwindled. A project once showcased as a model of rural entrepreneurship gradually faded from official priority. "The Prime Minister called Munar's women a national example. Today, those same women are back to square one: jobless and forgotten," said Gopa Dhapola, a local resident. "Ragi biscuits, rich in nutrition, were once sent to pregnant women. Then the govt policy changed and now they get only wheat and rice in the name of nutrition. This is not just a failure, it's betrayal." However, officials denied that policy changes led to the factory's closure. "The govt had no direct role. Internal disputes within the committee caused the shutdown. We've issued notices and are planning to form a new committee to restart operations," said chief development officer R C Tiwari. Local leader Harish Aithani said after the PM mentioned the initiative, the popularity of the biscuits soared and farmers' income tripled. "Mandua prices rose from Rs 20 to Rs 60 per kilo, and jobs flourished. But now, with the factory shut, it's all come to a halt. The administration hasn't stepped in since," he added. The factory's closure underscores the fragility of grassroots initiatives lacking sustained institutional backing and how political recognition without practical assistance proves ineffective.
