Ajman has unveiled a new plan with reduced hours and remote work on Fridays.
The 'Balanced Summer' initiative for government employees is aimed at promoting work-life balance, family cohesion, and environmental sustainability during the summer months.
The plan was approved during a meeting of the Ajman Executive Council chaired by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.
Under the initiative, 100 per cent remote work will be in effect every Friday from July 1 to August 22, 2025.
In addition, working hours from Monday to Thursday will be reduced to seven hours, running from 7.30 am to 2.30 pm across all government entities. Key features of the Balanced Summer initiative include: 100 per cent remote work on Fridays (July 1 – August 22)

Sheikh Ammar stated that human well-being is central to government success, emphasising that a supportive and flexible work environment leads to higher institutional efficiency and better public service delivery.
The Ajman Human Resources Department, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, will oversee implementation and evaluate the initiative's outcomes related to performance, satisfaction, and community impact.
This move reflects a growing trend across the UAE towards adopting progressive, employee-focused policies that enhance productivity while supporting broader sustainability and social goals.

The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) unveiled the new school calendar, which was approved by the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council. The updated schedule will take effect from August 25, 2025, aligning with the country's 'Year of Community' goals to strengthen family cohesion and create a balanced learning environment. Academic year starts: August 25, 2025 August 25, 2025 First term ends: December 7, 2025 December 7, 2025 Winter break: December 8, 2025 – January 4, 2026 (four weeks) December 8, 2025 – January 4, 2026 (four weeks) Second term: January 5 –March 15, 2026 January 5 –March 15, 2026 Spring break: March 16 – 29, 2026 ( Sharjah private schools return March 23, 2026 ) March 16 – 29, 2026 ( ) Third term: March 30, –July 3, 2026 ( Sharjah schools end July 2, 2026 ) Public and private schools following the government curriculum will now enjoy three short breaks during the year: October 13 – 19, 2025: Early break in longest term February 11 – 15, 2026: Mid-year recharge May 25 – 31, 2026: Aligned with Eid Al Adha Private schools not following the government curriculum can schedule October and February breaks of up to five consecutive days, but must keep them within the set months. Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, said the calendar serves as a strategic national tool, reinforcing both educational quality and social cohesion. She also noted that consistent holiday dates will enable community, cultural and tourism entities to align their programmes with the academic schedule, strengthening the link between education and society. The MoE stressed that all schools must follow the approved calendar, with teaching, assessments, and curriculum completion continuing until the last day of each term. Private schools following the government curriculum must also adhere to the centralised test schedule used in public schools. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler and Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired the council meeting on Tuesday morning at the Ruler's Office, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council. The council issued a decision to regulate the auction sale of special vehicle number plates in the Emirate of Sharjah The meeting discussed several agenda topics focused on monitoring the performance of government departments and entities, and developing the legislative framework to enhance government work and achieve integration across sectors in service of the community. The council decided to conclude the first regular session of the twentieth annual term for municipal councils in the Emirate of Sharjah, with the session officially ending on Thursday, 8 Muharram 1447 AH, corresponding to July 3, 2025. During the period between sessions, the general committees of the municipal councils will continue handling their respective affairs. The council has also implemented a decision to regulate the auction sale of special vehicle number plates in the Emirate of Sharjah. This regulation relates to plates designated by the Sharjah Police General Command. Under this decision, the Sharjah Police will organise and supervise the auctions, establish conditions and regulations, specify plate numbers and category codes, contract with specialised companies, and manage any additional tasks assigned by the Executive Council. The decision stipulated that licensed investment funds registered with the Securities and Commodities Authority and listed in the investment funds register have the right to own and use real estate in the emirate in accordance with the regulations set forth in this decision, as follows: 1. Private investment funds that are fully owned by UAE citizens or GCC nationals, as well as public investment funds, have the right to own real estate in all areas of the emirate and to use real estate in projects approved for usufruct sale. 2. Private investment funds that include units owned by non-UAE citizens and non-GCC nationals have the right to own real estate in projects approved for sale to foreigners and to use real estate in projects approved for usufruct sale. The decision also includes legal articles concerning ownership and usufruct conditions, investment fund registry, powers of the Real Estate Registration Department, fees, data updates, suspension of fund transactions, and trading of private fund units.
