RAIPUR: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Raipur encountered a technical fault on Wednesday, causing panic and distress among passengers as they were unable to exit the aircraft for nearly 40 minutes after landing at Swami Vivekananda Airport.
The door of the flight, which had safely touched down at Raipur Airport, couldn't be opened due to technical malfunction, leaving the passengers trapped inside.
The flight landed on time at 2.25 pm but couldn't disembark passengers due to malfunction. Among the passengers were prominent figures such as former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress MLA Chaturi Nand, and Raipur Mayor Meenal Chaubey, who were all aboard the flight.
The delayed door opening led to a moment of panic for some passengers, who grew anxious as the minutes passed, Meenal Choubey told TOI. She said that the cabin crew informed the passengers that the monitor had not received the command to open the door connected to the aero-bridge. Choubey said that though they could see the ground crew and everything outside normal, the passengers obviously panicked waiting for so long inside the aircraft due to the locked door.

TOI tried contacting Raipur airport director and aviation secretary but they didn't attend calls and were not available for comments.
TOI spoke to the IndiGo spokesperson in New Delhi who said, 'IndiGo flight 6E 6313, operating from Delhi to Raipur, experienced a delay in opening the aircraft door upon arrival on June 18, 2025, due to a minor technical issue. Following standard safety procedures, the door was opened after necessary checks were completed.'
'We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers' patience and understanding. At IndiGo, passenger safety and adherence to protocol remain our highest priorities,' the spokesperson said.
Congress MLA Chaturi Nand, who was traveling with her husband, shared her experience of the incident. She explained that after the flight landed in Raipur, the door failed to open due to technical difficulties.
Her husband, along with other passengers, became quite anxious during the delay.
She also highlighted the heightened anxiety, stating that many passengers were on edge following the recent Air India incident in Ahmedabad. 'People were a little scared, especially after the Ahmedabad accident, which added to the tension inside the flight,' said the MLA.

Ahead of Pune civic polls, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena eyeing leaders from other parties
Uncertain about any pre-poll alliance for the upcoming civic elections, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is going all out to make its presence felt in Pune city, where it has lost its sheen over the past few years, with only one of the 10 former corporators of the undivided party joining the Maharashtra deputy chief minister's faction. After the Shiv Sena split led to the distribution of workers between the Shinde-led party and the Shiv Sena (UBT) of Uddhav Thackeray three years ago, all the former corporators except for Nana Bhangire preferred to continue with Thackeray. A few of the nine leaders later joined the BJP, instead of any of the two Senas. Also, the Shinde-led Sena struggled to make its presence felt in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Sena first roped in former Congress legislator Ravindra Dhangekar with the responsibility of reviving the party in Pune city. 'We will induct leaders and workers from other political parties soon. The Shiv Sena's strength will increase in the city with a focus on preparing to contest civic polls independently,' said Sena leader Dhangekar, adding that it was not known whether there would be a pre-poll alliance with Mahayuti partners, the BJP and the NCP, before the civic elections. The Shiv Sena is all set to induct Congress leader Sonali Marne and other potential candidates for civic polls from other parties. 'I have decided to join the Shiv Sena as the Congress is not fulfilling its responsibility. The Congress is no more active,' said Marne. Dhangekar said there would soon be a party rally in the city, where Eknath Shinde would induct Marne and other leaders. Earlier, the Shiv Sena (UBT) inducted former MNS leader Vasant More to revive the party in Pune. The Opposition party has recently held protest rallies in the city against the ruling Mahayuti. ‘Fought single-handedly': Kerala CM defends CPI-M leader after remarks on Emergency sparks row
Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary M V Govindan's remarks about the outfit joining hands with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh during the Emergency has put the ruling party on the back foot a day before by-election in Nilambur assembly seat, prompting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to defend the statement. Nilambur will vote Thursday. Referring to Govindan's remarks, Vijayan said that 'the CPI (M) had fought against the Emergency single-handedly'. This comes after the Congress claimed Govindan's statement was 'a passionate appeal to its one-time friend RSS seeking its help in the by-election. The Opposition party stepped up its campaign that 'unholy nexus between CPI(M) and BJP' exists in the bypoll. Addressing the media Wednesday evening, Vijayan said: 'There was no relation of any sort between the CPI(M) and RSS during the Emergency. When political parties which fought against the Emergency, formed Janata Party as a larger alliance, Jan Sangh (political wing of RSS till 1977) also merged in that party. However, the CPI(M) had not merged into the Janata Party. The CPI(M) had fought on its own against the Emergency'. In a TV interview Tuesday, Govindan said: 'RSS is communal…during the Emergency we had joined hands with them. It is a reality. We are not afraid of telling the truth'. On Wednesday, a day after the remark kicked up a storm, Govindan issued a clarification saying that he had spoken of a situation 'when the entire country stood together against Emergency'. 'Various political streams move together to oppose the Emergency. CPI(M) had never entered into an alliance with RSS,' he said. But the remarks gave ammunition to the Congress, which called it a last-minute attempt to woo Bharatiya Janata Party's votes in Nilambur. While the BJP has handpicked Mohan George, a local Christian leader and a former leader of regional Christina party Kerala Congress, as the National Democratic Alliance candidate in Nilambur, Akhil Bharat Hindu Maha Sabha has declared its support for CPI(M) candidate M Swaraj. To win back the Hindu votes, the CPI(M) has been highlighting Jamaat-e-Islami's support for Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath. In his remarks, the Congress-led Opposition Leader V D Satheesan claimed the CPI(M) 'was trying to create Islamophobia'. 'This appeal on the eve of voting is meant to get Sangh Parivar votes. The CPI(M)-BJP affair is evident in the by-election. BJP had been reluctant to field a candidate. CPI(M) has no right to question Jamaat-e-Islami support for Congress. Govindan himself had won elections in the past with Jamaat-e-Islami support,' he said.

"CM should resign on moral grounds": Congress MP on gangrape of 20-yr-old woman in Odisha
New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Days after the alleged gangrape of a 20-year-old woman at the Gopalpur beach in Odisha's Ganjam district, Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on 'moral grounds'. He also alleged that the State is witnessing an increase in crimes against women over the last year. Ulaka told ANI, 'It is a very sad and tragic a heinous crime, how dare they do something like this in Gopalpur? This is because over the last year, the atrocities against women have increased. We have been demanding continuously to take action. We wanted to form a House Committee. I have raised this in Parliament that around 50,000 women are missing. Multiple brutal rapes are happening all over the state' He further alleged that the BJP-led government is not taking any action to prevent crimes against women in the State. 'Because the Government is not taking any steps and nothing is happening, the perpetrators have the courage to do such activities. I think the CM should be held accountable for this because he is also the Home Minister. So, on moral grounds, ideally, the CM should resign. But we have seen that the BJP government never takes accountability.' 'If there is any shame left, the CM should resign immediately. This is our demand. Women's Commission has also taken suo motu cognisance. But this is not enough, someone has to take accountability and ensure that women and girls in the state are safe.' Earlier on the day, Congress leaders and workers enter into a scuffle with police on Wednesday as they protested against the recent Gopalpur beach gang rape case. The protesters, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, were marching towards the CM's residence when they were stopped by the police. The police detained several Congress leaders and workers during the protest. The horrific gang-rape of a 20-year-old college student at the Gopalpur beach in Odisha's Ganjam district sparked a row with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) calling it a 'complete breakdown' of law and order. The police have nabbed 10 people - six adults and four juveniles - in connection with the gang rape of the 20-year-old-college student from Berhampur, who was out with her male friend in the Gopalpur beach on Monday. According to the police, around 8 pm, 10 local youths, six adults and four minors at the beach overpowered the woman and her male friend. Three of the accused allegedly raped the woman while others kept watch on her male friend. The police immediately launched an investigation after the woman and her male friend registered a police complaint at the police station after 10 pm. 'After 10 pm, the woman and man came to the police station. As soon as the police reported the incident, they formed a team, and seven suspects were detained for questioning. The rest of three accused were also detained. All 10 accused - six adults and four minors - the adults have been arrested, the minors have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. Pleas will be sent to the Juvenile Justice Board to treat minors as adults, as they are above 16. They are all 17 years old,' Berhampur SP said. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep condemnation of the heinous gang rape incident in Gopalpur, stating that strict and exemplary action will be taken against the perpetrators. (ANI)
