TGSED issues proceedings on admission age for class 1 for 2025-26
Hyderabad: The Telangana School Education Department (TGSED) has clarified the age criteria for admission into class I, addressing the confusion and frustration of parents. The department has decided to maintain the previous age requirement. The Central Government's National Education Policy 2020 mandated a minimum age of six years for admission into class I.
However, Telangana and Karnataka have not adhered to this guideline, resulting in uncertainty among parents and schools. Thus, the age criteria have been a recurring issue for parents and schools every year.
Previously, Telangana set the admission age for class I as five plus years as of June 1 of the academic year. This policy contrasts with the Central rules applied by schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE).
In light of this, the Director of TGSED, EV Nrasimha Reddy, has issued a directive confirming the five-plus years of age criteria to continue for admissions into class I for the academic year 2025-26.
Consequently, the enrollment process as part of the 'Badi Bata' initiative in the government and quasi-government institutions will adhere to the five-year age requirement for primary school admissions.
In addition, the TGSED has instructed teachers to engage with members of the Amma Adarsha Patashala Committees, women Self-Help Groups, local youth organisations, and community leaders to facilitate a smoother enrollment campaign and improve admissions into government-run schools.

Centre hands over probe into Suhas Shetty murder to NIA
The Union Home Ministry on Saturday, June 7, handed over the investigation into the murder of 30-year-old Suhas Shetty, a Hindutva activist and accused in two murder cases, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), considering the 'the gravity of the offence, its national ramifications as well as the need to unearth the larger conspiracy'. It said, 'The Central government has received information regarding registration of FIR no. 0080/2025 dated 01.05.2025 by the Karnataka police at Bajpe police station in Mangaluru city, Karnataka, under sections 189(4), 191(2), 191(3), 126(2), 109, 118(1), 103(1), 61(1), 62, 351(2), 351(3), 190 of the BNS, 2023, and sections 3(1), 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, pertaining to attack on one Suhas Shetty on 01.05.2025 while he was travelling in a car along with a few others, by one Safwan with eight other persons, and the attack resulted in critical injuries to Suhas Shetty and others, and he subsequently succumbed to them in a hospital.' In this case, the Ministry said, sections 10 read with 41, 13, 15, 17, 18, and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, dealing with unlawful associations and terrorist activities, were attracted. The case relates to the targeted killing of an individual in public view with the intention to create terror in the minds of people, and the accused persons involved in the case were allegedly members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), an unlawful association. In view of the circumstances mentioned, the Central government was of the opinion that a scheduled offence under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, had been committed in the instant case and having regard to the gravity of the offence, its national ramifications as well as the need to unearth the larger conspiracy, it was required to be investigated by the NIA. The Ministry directed the NIA to take up the investigation into the case in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (5) of section 6 read with section 8 of the NIA Act. On the night of May 1, Shetty, who was travelling along with his associates, was chased and hacked to death in full public view by a group of people in Bajpe town. The victim was the main accused in the murder of 23-year-old Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Katipalla-Surathkal, who was killed in front of a shop in Surathkal on July 28, 2022. Fazil was murdered two days after the killing of BJP activist Praveen Nettaru at Bellare in Sullia taluk on July 26, 2022. The Bajpe police have so far arrested 11 persons in the Shetty murder case.

Why adjustment of teachers before completion of Badibata?- TSUTF
Hyderabad: The Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF) has raised concerns regarding the state government's decision to adjust teachers before the reopening of schools. TSUTF State President Chava Ravi has demanded that the school timetable for all Gurukul schools be changed to start at 9 AM before schools resume, emphasizing that this change should prioritize the needs of the students. He warned that if the government persists in its tactless approach toward job-related issues, the organization will intensify its efforts to unite teachers in protest. TSTUF state general secretary A. Venkati acknowledged the state's Badibata program, aimed at registering students in schools, which was conducted starting June 6, before the school reopening. However, he criticized the education department for issuing Memo No. 1267, which addresses the adjustment of teachers, calling it a mockery. He pointed out that while the government intends to reopen closed schools under the guise of the Badibata program and increase student enrollment in under-populated schools, it is contradictory to adjust teachers before the completion of this registration process. Venkati expressed concern that this approach could lead to the decline of government schools and questioned how the government plans to instill confidence in parents and boost student enrollment. The TSUTF has also demanded the introduction of pre-primary classes in primary schools. Also, one classroom and one teacher for each class as the parents demand the same. They urge that the rules be amended accordingly and that teacher adjustments be made only after the completion of the student registration process. They called for promotions for teachers within the Education Department to the positions of Deputy Education Officers, Diet Lecturers, and Middle Education Officers, noting that several districts and mandals in the state are currently operated with in-charge staff rather than full-time DEOs and MEOs.

Workshop on Viksit Bharat Amrit Kaal held
Puttaparthi: A special workshop themed 'Viksit Bharat Amrit Kaal Service, Good Governance, and Welfare of the Poor' was organised on Saturday at the BJP district headquarters in Puttaparthi.
