Travelling from Varanasi to Delhi in the C7 coach (242627), Darshil Mishra faced an unexpected downpour—not from the sky, but from the train's roof due to some fault in air conditioning.
"My ordeal started as I boarded the train in Varanasi. My tablet, trousers as well as other passengers were drenched due to leaky roof. To prevent the leak, the staff switched off the AC around my berth, which was next to the entry door of the coach.
Now, I and other passengers were not only drenched but continued the uncomfortable journey amid humid conditions," recounted Darshil.
When Darshil raised the issue with onboard railway staff, the response was a dismissive "adjust kariye" (just adjust).
Adding to the frustration, the train ticket examiner (TTE) never showed up to address the situation.
"The Vande Bharat Express, touted as a symbol of modern rail travel in India, promises comfort and efficiency.
However, this incident highlights serious maintenance lapses that undermine its reputation. Further even after reaching out to DRM Lucknow division social media handle, no action was taken," said Darshil, who filed a complaint in the consumer forum for a refund.
Darshil is pursuing Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Ambala. After reaching Delhi, he boarded a connecting Vande Bharat Express to reach Ambala while his mother and brother alighted at Delhi, where they reside.

The incident, captured on video by Darshil, has since gone viral on social media, igniting widespread outrage against
.
Netizens have slammed the railways, with many calling for accountability and improved service standards. The railways is yet to issue an official statement.
However, a note prepared by Northern Railway following the incident reads, "This incident could have been avoided if additional metallic washer had been wielded over the existing washer of return air filter of the air conditioning system. The incident in C7 happened due to a choked drain hole of a drip tray beneath the cooling coil."
The railways has suspended V S Galhot, senior section engineer Varanasi, rake in-charge for not ensuring proper draining of condensate water through drain hole during regular maintenance.

Independence Day rush spurs rise in rail footfall; calls grow for special trains for Onam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Major railway stations across the Thiruvananthapuram Division recorded close to a 20% spike in passenger footfall during the Independence Day weekend. The rush, which began on Thursday evening, was managed effectively with the operation of special trains and the addition of extra coaches, said senior railway officials. The surge in passenger numbers is expected to continue until Monday morning. Since Independence Day fell on Friday this year, Southern Railway introduced special services to manage the crowd, including the Mangaluru Junction-Thiruvananthapuram North Special on August 14 and 16, along with return services from Thiruvananthapuram North-Mangaluru Junction on August 15 and 17. Officials said these measures offered much relief to passengers at busy stations. Senior officials of Southern Railway said that the rush is only a precursor to the heavier traffic during Onam. Sources said the passenger footfall is projected to rise by over 40% between September 4 and 7. With this in mind, passengers have urged the Southern Railway to consider deploying additional Vande Bharat Express services for the festive season.

The Indian Railways system has improved our lives considerably. It connects every part of India and facilitates travel throughout the country. While India has the world's fourth-largest railway network, the country has yet to effectively implement a high-speed rail system. The first bullet train corridor in India is being constructed from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, and it will take some time to become operational. China boasts a high-speed rail network of 45,000 km, which makes it unparalleled in the world. For any train to be considered 'high-speed,' it must operate at least 200 km/h, according to the International Union of Railways. In India, the country's fastest train – the Vande Bharat Express – can reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, yet operates at much lower speeds. Even the United States is behind most countries in developing a high-speed rail network. Spain has the second-largest high-speed railway network in the world after China. It has built a total of 3,966 km of high-speed rail so far. Japan comes in third position with 3,096 km, followed by France (2,800 km), the UK (2,214 km), Germany (1,658 km), Finland (1,120 km), Italy (1,117 km), and South Korea (877 km), all ranking among the top 10 countries with the most extensive high-speed rail systems. 🚆 World's longest high-speed rail networks: 🇨🇳 China: 45,000 kilometers 🇪🇸 Spain: 3,966 km 🇯🇵 Japan: 3,096 km 🇫🇷 France: 2,800 km 🇬🇧 UK: 2,214 km 🇩🇪 Germany: 1,658 km 🇫🇮 Finland: 1,120 km 🇮🇹 Italy: 1,117 km 🇰🇷 South Korea: 887 km 🇸🇪 Sweden: 860 km 🇬🇷 Greece: 672 km 🇷🇺 Russia:… — World of Statistics (@stats_feed) August 9, 2025 Following them are Sweden (860 km), Greece (672 km), Russia (650 km), Turkey (627 km), and Portugal (610 km).
