‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' Red Carpet: Cast Talks Keeping A Killer Secret

Nearly 30 summers later, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reunited on the red carpet for Monday's world premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
On the red carpet at the United Artists Theater in DTLA, Prinze told Deadline 'it was very surreal' sharing the screen with Hewitt again as they reprised their roles as Ray Bronson and Julie James in writer/director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's update of the 1997 slasher film.

'It was weird, man,' said Prinze. 'I never went to a high school reunion, but it was close to that as I could imagine 'cause I hadn't seen her in 20-plus years.'
Prinze walked the red carpet with his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom he met on the set of the original, and who previously sparked rumors of her return when she got in trouble for leaking a photo from set while visiting her husband.
While there are quite a few satisfying cameos and canonical surprises, Robinson made one thing clear: Helen Shivers is dead. That didn't stop her from pitching longtime friend Gellar to reprise her role.
'I was like, 'Maybe you aren't dead. Maybe you faked your death. Maybe you have a twin,'' Robinson said. 'I really pitched any version of Helen Shivers being alive to Sarah, and she was like, 'I am dead.''
Co-writer Sam Lansky, who made his feature debut alongside Robinson, called the opportunity 'the most surreal dream come true' after growing up on the original.
'The care that these actors put into crafting these characters is extraordinary, and I was so heartened by that as a fan, to realize how deeply these actors care about these characters and care about the fans, and want to protect the characters and their legacies for the fans,' said Lansky. 'Nothing about it was casual, there was a lot of really, really deep thought and critical consideration that went into it on Freddie and Love's part that you just felt to your marrow.'
Jonah Hauer-King, who plays Milo Griffin, was excited to 'recreate that brilliant universe that everyone fell in love with' while working with Prinze and Hewitt.
'They're great. I don't think the film could have really been made without them,' he raved. 'They're kind of synonymous with the original film, and I think having them back was such a stamp of approval for this new wave and for the new script. Them being back was sort of an endorsement for us and do our thing and bring our own fresh take too.'
And with a new era in the slasher franchise, which was based on Lois Duncan's 1973 novel, comes a new slasher to unmask. The reveal is sure to give longtime fans a shock as the cast and creators wrestle with the killer secret.
'I know Jen's original plan was that we were going to shoot multiple endings. I can neither confirm or deny that,' said Sarah Pidgeon, who plays Stevie Ward.
Prinze seems to have had a little more insight. 'No, there was a singular focus, there was a singular story. It wasn't Clue, there was no multiple endings,' he said with a laugh.
For Lansky, keeping a lid on the who's behind the hook 'has been really hard' leading up to the movie's July 18 premiere in theaters.
'Keeping secrets is always really hard,' he added. 'But I think we knew there were things that we wanted to do that would be fun and surprising for the audience, and that's all I'm gonna say. I hope that everyone feels that element of surprise when they're watching in the theater for the first time.'

Howard Stern's Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Bet

Back in 1997, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and basically lived happily ever after. As a quick recap, the two didn't actually start dating until they worked together again in 2000, when they played love interests in the Scooby-Doo movies. But after that, things moved pretty quickly. Sarah and Freddie got engaged in 2001, and then married in 2002. They welcomed their first child, Charlotte, in 2009, and a son, Rocky, in 2012. And on Monday, they appeared to be more in love than ever as they walked the red carpet for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, which Freddie stars in. Needless to say, hopeless romantics everywhere were obsessed to see the couple still standing strong almost 30 years after the first movie brought them together. But as fans fawned over their love story on a pop culture Reddit forum, it didn't take long for Freddie's 2001 interview with Howard Stern to come up. Suffice to say, it has not aged well. In the interview, which took place shortly before Freddie and Sarah got married, Howard warns the actor that the relationship 'won't last.' 'So, you will marry [Sarah] even though you know that it won't last?' Howard began, going on to tell then-25-year-old Freddie: 'You think you gonna know how you feel at 35? You're going to be a completely different dude.' 'And she will be a completely different woman, but it's all good,' Freddie breezily replied. 'And you will probably talk to each other through lawyers!' Howard's cohost Robin Quivers added. Howard later told Freddie: 'I want to make a written bet with you now: In about 10 years, you're gonna hunt me down and go: 'Howard, I owe you money.'' He then bet Freddie $1 million that he and Sarah won't stay together for longer than five years. Both Freddie and Sarah have acknowledged Howard's bet over the years. In a 2016 interview with Build, Freddie said: 'He bet me a million dollars that we would break up in under five years… You have not paid that bet, young man!' And on their 20th wedding anniversary, Sarah posted the interview to her Instagram story, and wrote: '@SternShow I think you owe us.' Freddie reposted this at the time, joking: 'She will not forget.' So, it's pretty unsurprising that it has resurfaced again amid Sarah and Freddie's latest loved-up display, with a popular Reddit comment reading: 'they are a living embodiment of howard stern being wrong about everything so i have no choice but to be a fan.' 'Did he ever pay FPJ?' somebody else asked, while another wrote: 'he was acting like they were 19 and had literally no idea what they were doing.'While one more mused: 'I hate when people who's relationship fell apart project that everybody else will also have a relationship fall apart.'Others just couldn't help but gush over the long-lasting celeb couple, with one person writing: 'They appear to be a blessed couple. They still look great and they appear to be enamored with each other.' While somebody else concluded: 'The way she looks at him 😭 This is the celebrity relationship I'll always root for, I wish all the happiness for them.' Katherine Schwarzenegger On Stepparenting Chris Pratt's Son, Jack

When Chris Pratt and his now-wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, got together back in 2018, she became a proud stepmom to his son Jack, whom he shares with his ex, Anna Faris. Chris and Anna married in 2009, welcomed Jack in 2012, and separated in 2017. Their divorce was finalized a year later in 2018, by which point, Chris was already dating Katherine. Jack is now 12 and a big brother to his dad and stepmom's three kids: 4-year-old Lyla, 3-year-old Eloise, and 8-month-old Ford. Now, during this week's episode of the Parenting & You with Dr. Shefali podcast, Chris and Katherine got real about the challenges that come with blending a family, revealing she even hired a 'stepparenting coach' to help. 'I got that right when we got engaged. And it's been incredibly helpful for me and just understanding my role as a stepparent,' Katherine said, admitting that her coach/therapist has been 'essential' in her journey with Jack. 'Stepparenting, like parenting, has no handbook,' she said. 'Because I have the benefit of being in both roles, stepparenting is extra confusing because you aren't a parent, you're not a nanny, you're not an assistant. You have responsibilities in all of those areas, but you're not either of them. It's a confusing thing to navigate where you fit in.' Katherine said that 'every dynamic is obviously very different,' but that she, Chris, and Anna coparent 'very well,' calling it a 'huge blessing, which takes a lot of work.' 'It works when everybody is willing to put in the work,' she added. Chris agreed that being a stepparent can be tricky and sometimes feel 'thankless,' comparing it to motion-capture acting, in which an actor's physical movements are recorded before being projected onto a digital animation (think Avatar). 'It's a tough job,' he said. 'Stepparenting is a little bit like mo-cap acting because, in the end, you don't end up getting the credit you deserve.' 'Children are children and they're on their own paths,' he continued. 'They're probably having to continually process the fact that they are children of divorce. If a parent is in there doing the hard work of creating structure for a child and holding children accountable, and it's not a biological child, it can feel thankless. But it's a really, really important job.' I can't say I've ever heard of a stepparenting coach before, but it sounds like it did the trick for the Pratt family! You: Anna Camp Calls Out Emmys Snub After Playing Twins

Back in April, Anna Camp starred in the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix series You, where she played identical twins Raegan and Maddie Lockwood. And the 42-year-old star has been incredibly open about her experience of playing two totally different characters in the same TV show, admitting that it is a 'bucket list item' for most actors. 'To finally be on set and learn both sets of lines and get both hair and makeup done and both wardrobe changes — I mean, it was something that was really exciting for me, a challenge,' she said to Page Six at the New York the same interview, Anna also shared the cheeky question she asked producers after she was cast, quipping: 'As soon as I got the call, I said: 'Well, I'm going to have to learn double the lines, will I get double the money?' They said: 'No,' but I did ask. I had to ask!'And discussing her process during an appearance on her co-star Penn Badgley's Podcrushed podcast, Anna revealed that as a 'woo woo type gal,' she got a crystal that represented each character and had the associated one with her when filming her scenes. 'When I finally saw the scene with the two of me together, I was a little bit like: 'Whoa, OK, I think I might have pulled that off,' she added at the time. 'I was kind of like: 'Oh god, I see two different people, I hope that the audience sees and feels that as well!'' 'The hardest thing about doing the show was just playing the two roles and trying to make them different,' Anna admitted elsewhere in the podcast. So, perhaps it's unsurprising that Anna was expecting an Emmy nomination for her You performance when the shortlist dropped on Tuesday — and wasn't afraid to express her disappointment when she didn't make the cut. For reference, Anna likely would have put herself forward for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama category, which was heavily dominated by the Season 3 White Lotus cast. Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, and Aimee Lou Wood make up four of this year's seven nominees, alongside Patricia Arquette for her performance in Severance, Julianna Nicholson for Paradise, and Katherine LaNasa for The Pitt. Shortly after the nominations were announced, Anna took to her Instagram page to share two screengrabs of herself as Maddie and Raegan, and added in the caption: 'Me reading about the nominations this morning knowing I gave one of the best performances of my life while also trying to be happy for everyone and while also remembering I vowed to stop drinking during the week." She reiterated her feelings on her Instagram story, where she shared two supportive comments from fans, and wrote: 'I love my followers.' The first comment read: 'You were 🔥🔥🔥🔥 snubs are for scrubs … I'll down one for you 🥂,' and the second echoed: 'I would get sh@tfaced if I wasn't nominated for this performance.'Anna was also supported by her girlfriend, Jade Whipkey, who wrote: 'BLOWN AWAY🌹 not many people ever get the chance to play twins and NO ONE has ever done it like you did. Take notes Hollywood ✍️!!!'For what it's worth, throughout its five seasons, You has never been nominated for an Emmy, or won a single industry award. What do you make of Anna's social media posts?
