Daughter cries in her sleep every night, says widow of FRU personnel killed in Teluk Intan crash
IPOH, May 18 — The wife of Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim, one of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel killed in an accident on May 13, said their six-year-old daughter cries in her sleep every night following the tragedy.
Nur Aini Samiun, 44, said their children, Muhd Raqin Najmi, 13, Muhd Rizqi Nazhan, 9, and Nur Aqeela Rawida, had a close relationship with their father.
'I would take care of the children while my late husband handled the finances. Now that he's gone, I have to take on all those responsibilities,' she said when met at her home in Taman Kinding Raya, Tanjung Rambutan, during Ziarah Kasih, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation's (PTPTN) outreach programme, today.
Nur Aini said Mohd Roslan was well-liked and did not hesitate to take leave from work to care for his ailing parents until both of them passed away.
Earlier, PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said the three children are eligible to receive benefits totalling RM193,000 through the National Education Savings Scheme (Simpan SSPN), contributed under the Simpan SSPN Prime and Simpan SSPN Plus products.
Nur Aini said her husband was always mindful of the future, diligently setting aside savings for their children.
'...we don't have a high income or many assets, and I am unemployed, savings like this (SSPN) can help support us in the future,' she added.
In the 8.50 am accident, the FRU truck collided with a stone-laden lorry along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam, also injuring nine personnel. — Bernama

Johor police detain Singaporean driver after road rage dispute in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU, June 9 — Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult). Police said anyone with information related to the case can contact the Johor Bahru Utara IPD at 07-5563122. Driver trapped, burnt to death after timber lorry crash in Bintulu as vehicle bursts into flames
SIBU, June 9 — A timber lorry driver was burned to death when his lorry caught fire after it crashed along a timber trail in Samarakan, Bintulu yesterday. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, a call about the crash was received at 1 pm and a team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station was mobilised to the location near Medsum Trading Sdn Bhd, Samarakan, Bintulu. The victim was identified as Kanang Inggai, aged 57. 'The front end of the lorry was totally burned. The victim was trapped and found burned. The fire had been put out by company workers. 'The firefighters managed to extricate the body at 2.49 pm,' the centre said in a statement today. — Bernama

UPSI student bus crashes with MPV on East-West Highway in Gerik, at least 15 dead; PM instructs Higher Education Ministry to coordinate aid
IPOH, June 9 — At least 15 people were killed in an accident involving a bus carrying students from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) and a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle on the East-West Highway in Banun, Gerik this morning. The Hulu Perak operations control centre of the Civil Defence Force (APM) received an emergency call from Gerik Hospital regarding the collision at 1.10 am, national news agency Bernama reported. The APM confirmed in a statement that 48 people were involved in the crash, with 13 pronounced dead at the scene. Two more were reported to have died in the hospital. Four others sustained injuries. The bus was reported to have been travelling from Jertih in Terengganu, to Tanjung Malim in Perak. In a separate Facebook post, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said his ministry will provide all necessary assistance to those involved in the crash. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and said further information will be updated in due course.
