Huge Leonardo DiCaprio blockbuster now streaming on iPlayer

Metro21-07-2025
The Wolf of Wall Street, one of Leonardo DiCaprio's most beloved films, is now available to stream on iPlayer.
The 2013 film is a biographical black comedy crime film based on Jordan Belfort's 2007 memoir about his time as a stockbroker in New York City.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, a real-life figure who was imprisoned for fraud and related crimes in connection with stock-market manipulation through his company Stratton Oakmont.
The film has a stellar cast with Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, and Kyle Chandler all playing major roles.
In fact, for Margot, this was a huge breakout role for her, having only appeared in films such as About Time and I.C.U in minor roles.
Now, over a decade after the film was released, UK fans can stream the film on iPlayer.
With a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie was praised when it was released and has remained a huge hit in the 12 years since its debut.
Reviews have praised the acting performances and the storytelling of Scorsese.
'In The Wolf of Wall Street, Scorsese recognized a story of insanity, lewdness, depravity, greed and incredible entertainment value, and that's exactly what he has brought to the screen,' said Eric Eisenberg for Cinemablend.
'Talk about a high-risk reward. Martin Scorsese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' is a delirious, manic, push-the-limits comedy of gaudy amorality that tests the audience's taste,' said Joe Neumaier with New York Daily News.
'Great filmmakers don't grow old like the rest of us, and at 71, Martin Scorsese has stormed back with a picture that would have exhausted a director half his age,' said Robbie Collin for The Daily Telegraph.
The film was a smash after being made for a budget of
$100 million (£74.4m) and making $407m (£302.6m) at the box office. More Trending
Which may well have been worth the initial spend, as it appeared on many best film of the year lists and was nominated for many awards during the awards season.
The film received five Academy Award nominations but sadly didn't manage to cinch any wins. It also received five Bafta nominations (again winning none), and two Golden Globe nominations, with DiCaprio winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
Be warned before streaming, this movie has a hefty run time of 180 minutes, meaning fans will have to lock in for a full three hours to enjoy the cinematic piece!

Netflix hidden gem with perfect Rotten Tomatoes score fans forgot existed

Fans and critics agree the series is binge worthy and can be finished in one evening The Playlist Netflix trailer Netflix fans are only just rediscovering a hidden gem that boasts a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score that they forgot existed. ‌ The Playlist is a limited series described as a docudrama and tells a fictionalised story of the founding of music streaming company Spotify. It was influenced by the book Spotify Untold. ‌ Comprised of six episodes, The Playlist focuses around the young Swedish tech entrepreneur, Daniel Ek, and his key partners who revolutionised a whole industry by offering free and legal streamed music around the world. ‌ According to the synopsis, it is a story about how hard convictions, unrelenting will, access and big dreams can help small players challenge the status quo by evolving the way we can all listen to music. While it was released on the streaming giant back in 2022, it seems many Netflix subscribers have forgotten about its existence. It is strange considering it boasts a 100% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes. ‌ One critic claimed that the series even sets a new standard for its genre. They said: "The Playlist is near perfect. The mini-series sets the bar high for all biographical dramas to come after it. Particularly because it captures the ills of the tech industry, the joy, the fallout, and the many many people that all go into one success..." Another reviewer, writing for The Guardian seemed to suggest it is worth binge watching just for the end. They penned: "One thing I won't spoil is how the series ends. This is because it is incredibly, brain-breakingly weird, and anyone who sits through all six hours of The Playlist deserves to feel the same jolting discomfort that I did. " Meanwhile, a different review, awarding five stars declared that the series "has no right to be this good." Before adding: "The Playlist is 2022's best drama. The scripts are sharp, pacey, funny and cleverly structured to provide each key player in the story with a voice. The performances are great without straying into bluster or scenery chewing, and there's a constant motion in the narrative that keeps you utterly captivated. Do not skip this one." ‌ Fans who have stumbled across it on their Netflix libraries also recommend it highly. Many suggest that it is a limited series that can be binged in just one evening. One, sharing their thoughts online posted: "Riveting enough to be a definite binge watch." Another agreed: "Really great series. Enjoyed it and binge watched it in one evening. I also like the idea of how they built the episodes logically to make the whole story." Sharing a similar view, someone else commented: "The way they showed how the journey of each individual played into the plot was very impressive. A 10/10 absolute binge worthy."

Netflix period drama 'better than Outlander' is available to stream now

The 'outstanding' period drama is given a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. ‌ When trying to find a new and exciting period drama, it's often the same titles coming up time and time again. However, what if there was one hidden gem even better than the best-known series, sitting right under your nose? ‌ Inspired by the true story behind one of Italy's first female lawyers, The Law According to Lidia Poët follows the titular attorney, played by Matilda De Angelis, as she fights to practice law in late 19th-century Turin, Italy. After being disbarred from practising law simply because she is a woman and forced to be an assistant to her lawyer brother Enrico, portrayed by Pier Luigi Pasino, Lidia fights for gender equality at a time when it simply didn't exist. ‌ Despite the obstacles she faced, she continues to work hard being the scenes, using her intelligence, determination, and progressive views on justice to solve crimes. The six-part series aired on Netflix in 2023 with the second season coming a year later, the Express reports. For those that believe this sounds right up their street, it's good news because both of these seasons are available to watch on the streaming platform and better yet, another season is coming too! ‌ The third season of The Law According to Lidia Poët is expected to be released in late 2025 or early 2026. ‌ The Italian historical drama was praised after its release with critics applauding the mixture of courtroom drama, mystery-solving, and feminist themes. However, the series faced some criticism from Lidia Poët's grandnephew, who accused it of sexualising her character, ignoring her Waldensian heritage and lacking proper historical context. ‌ Despite the backlash, The Law According to Lidia Poët has a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been met with constant praise from viewers. One gushed: "Love it! Actors are brilliant, script is developed and interesting; Costumes are Amazing!!! The details of jewellery and accessories for Lidia are Fabulous!!!!! "Love the insect brooches or fly/ spider earrings!!! And that's just 1 character!! Everything, the finest detail was designed and styled to perfection!!!" ‌ A second chimed in: "This is a great series based on the two seasons I have watched. Hint: You'll not want to miss the Season 2 finale and everything which leads up to it. Netflix deserves our thanks for this worthwhile show." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Netflix fans have days left to binge 'the greatest TV series of all time'

Netflix users in the UK only have a matter of days left to binge a show many have described as 'the greatest TV series of all time.' First airing in 2004, Lost helped to revolutionise dramatic television as we know it. Following a group of passengers stranded on a mysterious island after a catastrophic plane crash, it left viewers fascinated, frustrated and infatuated, in equal measure. Following its history-making first season, the show went on to accumulate five more series before coming to an end in May 2010. Since then, viewers have continued to unpack the island's many mysteries, with the show experiencing a resurgence when it was first added to Netflix last August. But time is now running out for Netflix users to catch up or finish off, with Lost set to leave Netflix on August 15. While its divisive ending may have sent Lost off on a somewhat sour note, it remains well-regarded by fans and critics alike. Its collective six seasons boast an impressive 86% Fresh score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Its audience score sits at an even healthier 89%, with some viewers still holding it up as one of – if not the greatest – TV shows of all time. 'The greatest TV show ever made. Not even close to be honest,' wrote Rotten Tomatoes user Derek R. 'Absolutely amazing, acting was incredible. I will never stop praising/recommending this show 15 years since after its ending,' said Noah P. Boopi H commented: 'One of the most mysterious, magical shows ever presented. nearly every episode came up with new, often mind blowing, twist that left me totally transfixed & begging for more. hated seeing it end.' 'No other show has ever hooked me like LOST did,' said Ray. Over the course of its six seasons, viewers followed the simmering love triangle of tortured surgeon Jack Shepherd (Matthew Fox), criminal Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) and conman Sawyer (Josh Holloway). The three stars led an enormous cast, which also included the mysterious Locke (Terry O'Quinn), loveable Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and creepy Ben Linus (Michael Emerson). While it may have struggled under the weight of its own impenetrable mysteries, the show consistently put out what many have declared some of the best episodes of TV – including the mind-bending season 4 episode The Constant, and season 3's devastating two-part finale, Through the Looking Glass. Its successes may have been overshadowed by a divisive (and arguably oft-misunderstood) ending, but it never Lost (heh) sight of its characters, all of whom still resonate today. Given the show's iconic status, it's inevitable, then, that audiences have been holding out for a reboot or sequel series. Earlier this year, co-executive producer Drew Goddard (who came aboard during its third season) weighed in on the chances of a return to the island, telling Variety: 'This question comes up on various shows that I've done, and I always feel strongly that I don't want to just do karaoke of the show I used to do. 'I'd only be interested if we felt like we could do something special and new within the construct of the show. 'And then some of it just comes down to time and appetite. So there's no plan for it today. But never say never.' Lost may be leaving Netflix in the coming weeks, but UK viewers won't have to look far to find its new home. More Trending All six seasons are now available on the streaming platform ITVX, meaning that those who didn't make it to the end still have their chance to see how it all finishes. And what of those of us who already got Lost the first time around? As a great man once said, we have to go back! View More » Lost is streaming on Netflix UK until August 15, and on ITVX now.
