5 ways to naturally reduce hair loss without drugs or supplements
More than 80% men and nearly half of women are predicted to face significant hair loss in their lifetime. What this knowledge promotes in these times of instant results is expenditure on a variety of drugs and supplements that promote providing "instant results" without any warning signs of their repercussions.
While the natural methods may take their sweet little time, they can be much more harmless and beneficial in the long run. William Gaunitz, a certified trichologist, has shared five natural ways to reduce hair loss without any drugs or supplements with The Post. Find them below!
Soak up sunlight

According to Gaunitz, one should sit in the sun for 15 minutes without any sunscreen to soak up a balanced amount of Vitamin D3. Vitamin D is essential for creating cells that develop into hair follicles and studies suggest that its deficiency can lead to excessive shedding and female pattern hair loss.
Maintain a balanced diet

The doctor recommended discovering your blood type and eating according to it, as it helps understand what the body needs specifically. 'This one thing is more important than anything else,' he stressed. If you skip on animal protein or follow a certain special diet, he warned there's an "extremely high" chance that you'll drain your nutrient stores unless you replace them with other sources.
Check up on gut health

If you have been facing problems like diarrhea, constipation and acid reflux, then these could be signs that your nutrient supply absorption has been compromised.

This means that even if you are eating right, the body is unable to absorb nutrients properly thus, impacting overall health- including hair health.
Shampooing is important

Everyone has a different thought on the gap between hair wash days. While some do it daily, others prefer twice a week. Gaunitz recommends washing your hair at a minimum of 48 hours with a healthy shampoo that has some kind of antimicrobial oil in it such as grapefruit seed, rosemary, tea tree or thyme.
Managing the scalp's delicate microbiome consistently is vital.
Massage the scalp daily

Before showering, try the scalp-over-skull-massage technique that is believed to boost blood flow to hair follicles, break up mild calcification under the scalp and clear out excess sebum.
'This can drastically improve scalp health,' Gaunitz said. 'You can also use a gua sha tool and massage the scalp with the edge, which requires less effort but is still marginally effective.'

State honours panchayats for zero maternal and infant deaths
Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh National Health Mission (MP-NHM) celebrated grassroots healthcare workers and community leaders who achieved remarkable results in maternal and child healthcare during a programme on the Independence Day on Friday. Dhakoni Gram Panchayat in Ishagarh block of Ashoknagar district reported zero maternal and infant deaths for two consecutive years in a population of 8,107. This achievement resulted from coordinated efforts by Sarpanch Ramsakhi Kevat, ANM Asha Arode, and ASHA worker Indra Bai Sharma. The team achieved complete antenatal care registration and closely monitored high-risk pregnancies. All births occurred at nearby healthcare facilities, with Janani Express providing transport services, as Dhakoni's Sub Health Centre lacks delivery facilities. ANM Asha Arode, serving since March 2024, explained: "In Dhakoni Panchayat, which includes three villages with a combined population of around 2,200, we've achieved 100 percent ANC registration and zero infant deaths. High-risk pregnancies are referred to. I've been consistently ensuring follow-ups and care, despite the nearest PHC being 10 km away and the district headquarters in Ashoknagar located 30 km from Dhakoni. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? ASHA workers urge Karnataka government to keep its Rs 10,000-honorarium promise
Bengaluru: Hundreds of ASHA workers protested at the city's Freedom Park, some of them braving rain with their toddlers in their arms, demanding that the state govt pay them a monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000 — a promise made to them eight months ago but not fulfilled by the Siddaramaiah govt. The frontline healthcare workers summarised what they were fighting for: "We too are offering our services to the nation, please do not make us beg for what is rightfully ours." As per the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), over 42,000 ASHA workers across Karnataka participated in the protests against the state govt in all districts from Tuesday to Thursday. Without us, it is very difficult for our society. We are as important as doctors and nurses, but look at our situation. We are begging for Rs 10,000 after taking care of community health for the last 15 years," said Jyothi A, a 42-year-old ASHA worker from Yelahanka taluk. The ASHA workers pointed out that they are roped in for non-health activities undertaken by the govt but are not compensated appropriately. Rama TC, the state vice president of AIUTUC's ASHA wing, claimed that it has become common for ASHA workers to engage in non-health-related work without guaranteed remuneration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo "I don't know why our ASHA workers are treated this badly. They have no obligation to go for non-health work, but still end up going," she said. In addition to the honorarium, the protesters demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for retirees and the withdrawal of performance-related appraisals. "There should be a Rs 2,000 hike in honorarium for urban ASHA workers to align with the current cost of living in Bengaluru," Rama added. Prabhu Deva Gowda, programme officer, Arogya Abhiyan, accepted from the ASHA workers a memorandum of demands on behalf of the National Health Mission on Wednesday and assured the protesters of a prompt response after discussions with the govt. — Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Doctor reveals how excessive liver problems can affect the brain
Image credits: Getty Images The liver is one of the largest and most important organs in the body. From filtering out toxins to transmitting nutrients and vitamins to the rest of the body, the organ is vital for the healthy maintenance of humans. However, when the liver is unable to filter out toxins from the blood or when the blood flow through the organ is blocked, the toxins build up in the body and can get into the brain. Now, in a video going viral on the internet, a doctor has revealed how this can be highly harmful to the body. The video has received over 1,007 likes. How do liver diseases affect brain health ? Image credits: Getty Images In the caption of the viral video, Dr Joseph Salhab, who goes by the name "thestomachdoc" and is a gastroenterologist, as per his Instagram bio explained how the process works. "Many people don't realize that cirrhosis, a severe form of chronic liver disease, can progress to a condition that can impact brain function: overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE)," said the caption. Overt hepatic encephalopathy can cause symptoms such as confusion, tremors, personality changes and other symptoms that might not seem connected to liver function. The caption also added that Xifaxan is the first and only FDA approved medicine that reduces the risk of OHE recurrence in adults. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo "Today I want to educate you about a condition called overt hepatic hepatic encephalopathy also known as OHE," began the doctor. "OHE is a complication of cirrhosis and occurs when the liver sustains damage and loses its ability to remove toxins from the bloodstream, effectively causing toxins to accumulate and lead to impaired brain function" "This leads to a range of mental and physical symptoms that can significantly impact a person's well being. Symptoms associated with an episode of OHE can include confusion, disorientation, severe personality changes, changes in sleep patterns, tremors and more which on the surface level may not seem connected to a decline in liver function but that's why I always advice speaking to a doctor about all of your symptoms," explained the doc. Treating the disease requires a diagnosis of the underlying health condition and the most common medications prescribed by healthcare providers Rifaximin and lactulose.
