Firmino leaves Al-Ahli to join Qatar's Al-Sadd on two-year deal
Firmino has signed a two-year deal with the Qatar Stars League champions, having led Al-Ahli to the Asian Champions League Elite title in Jeddah in May.
"I'm happy because we made history at the club during these two years together," the Brazilian said in a farewell video released by the Saudi club.
"The best moment was to become the champions of Asia. I'm very grateful for this."
Firmino spent two seasons with Al-Ahli after joining from Liverpool and played a key role in the club's first continental title win, scoring six times in 12 games in the Asian Champions League Elite.
He provided assists for both of his club's goals in their win over Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in the final in May to become the first player - alongside clubmates Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy - to win continental titles in Asia and Europe.
Firmino's performances saw him named the competition's most valuable player.
The 33-year-old joins an Al-Sadd side that won last season's domestic title to qualify for the next edition of the Asian Champions League Elite. - REUTERS

Aussie qualifier schools young gun Fonseca in Toronto
TORONTO, Canada: Australian qualifier Tristan Schoolkate dispatched rising Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 on Monday in the ATP Toronto Masters, ensuring a breakthrough into the world ranking top 100. The 24-year-old from Perth moved to 98th in the ongoing live rankings as he claimed his biggest career victory by knocking out the ATP NextGen champion from last November. Schoolkate, son of a tennis coach, won his first match over a top-50 opponent on his sixth attempt as he dealt out the number 49 teenager from Brazil. The qualifier played a quarter-final this month in Los Cabos and won through qualifying for his spot in the Masters main draw. "I'm very happy with the result," Schoolkate said. "I played a good match and made it tricky throughout. "He's so young (18) but already an established player. I'm looking forward to my next match." That will be against 2024 Canadian semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi of Italy. Schoolkate advanced with 10 aces among his 23 winners. He caught Fonseca in a first-set tiebreaker and broke for a 2-1 lead in the second set on his way to victory in windy and quick court conditions. "The conditions suit the way I play," he said. "I like to serve big and get forward to make things uncomfortable for the opponent." The Aussie said he had given some thought to his potential top-100 breakthrough but is not stressing over any self-imposed deadlines. Jones made 100 appearances for Liverpool in three highly successful years between 1975 and 1978, also winning a Uefa Cup and a league title. The tough-tackling leftback also earned 72 caps for Wales. He was immortalised in a banner revealed by Liverpool fans at the 1977 European Cup final victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, which said: 'Joey ate the frogs' legs, made the Swiss roll, now he's munching Gladbach'. It was a reference to wins over French club St Etienne and Zurich in the quarter and semifinals. 'Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of Joey Jones. The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Joey's family and friends at this sad time,' the club said in a statement. Jones started and ended his career at Wrexham and also had spells at Anfield, Chelsea and Huddersfield. His former Wales teammate Mickey Thomas posted on X: 'This morning I lost my best friend and soul mate, Sir Joey our memories will never fade – Today my heart is broken. Love you Sir Joey RIP. My condolences are with Janice and all the family.'
