Pompey rue missed chances in Norwich defeat
Pompey started badly and only really recovered when it was too late on you consider Regan Poole's miss from five yards out, John Swift's devastatingly unlucky rebound from the crossbar and Colby Bishop's penalty misfire, a point was perhaps not beyond the realms of Pompey can have no complaints about the result, ultimately giving ourselves too much to do with less than 15 minutes on the clock, we edged back into the game in the first half and looked the better side in the two Norwich goals are a delight if you're on the scoring end, and a really painful watch if you are the side defending them. It's the 'blink and you'll miss it' factor of the Championship, two well worked set-pieces and all of a sudden you're on completely the wrong end of the scoreline on home speaks about it at length during his press conferences, the notion of thinking you've got it cracked at this level is redundant, because as soon as you starting thinking that, this division has a funny way of telling you that you haven' loads of lessons and plenty to take from Saturday's game. Josh Murphy lacked his usual eye-for-goal prowess, Callum Lang's injury will leave Portsea Island and those around the world who bleed blue holding their breath, and Adrian Segecic looks to be a complete sensation. Back-to-back league goals is only the start for that young conversions from the spot stand at 18 out of 23. Albeit he has missed a few recently, many of the top strikers on the planet miss penalties, and moreover miss big chances. It a man whose return to the side in November last year provided a single-handed pivot towards survival, something that simply wouldn't have been achieved without his immense input, questioning his effectiveness is preposterous. He's still the best man for the travel to the West Midlands next weekend with last season's rout by West Brom remaining fresh in the memory. Bukayo Saka admits Arsenal were below par in win at Man Utd
Bukayo Saka admitted Arsenal were a long way from their best after they snatched a 1-0 win away to Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Sunday. Riccardo Calafiori got the only goal in the 13th minute when he pounced on an error from United's stand-in goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. But Arsenal were otherwise second best at Old Trafford, sloppy in possession against a United side who impressed with their energy and purpose, even if they ultimately could not find an end product. If the Gunners are to take a step forward this season, after three consecutive second-placed finishes in the Premier League, they cannot afford too many more displays like this one. 'It was not a great performance,' Saka said. 'We are happy with the three points, to come away from Old Trafford with a win. 'We were not up to our usual standards, the basics, sloppy giveaways. Our decision making was not great and that cost us and gave United a lot of momentum. We did not get punished for it but we cannot do it every game.' A huge amount of the focus coming into the match was on Arsenal's new £55million striker Viktor Gyokeres as he came up against his former boss Ruben Amorim. It proved a difficult afternoon for the Sweden star, who struggled to hold up the ball and did not get a sight of goal before being replaced just after the hour. 'I was impressed with him and he battled for us,' Saka said of his new team-mate. 'It was tough. There was a big battle up there. 'I thought he did well. His performance gives us something to build on and I am sure it will help him next week. He has slotted in well and so have the other guys.'
