City fans' groups welcome ticket price cut
Instead of rises that had been feared by supporters, City have said the price of the lowest-priced tickets will be reduced.

While the actual prices will differ depending on the category of the game, an adult ticket for the lowest category of matches will range between £30 and £50. For the highest category, it will be between £40 and £60. Junior members tickets will be available for between £15 and £30.
City say for the Manchester derby or equivalent fixture, the lowest-priced adult tickets have been reduced by 43%, while the highest-priced tickets by 22%.
"This is a big step in the right direction by the club and a vindication of the collective action so many blues took last season," said the Trade Union Blues group.
"We welcome the reduction in matchday ticket prices," said the Weare1894 group. "A definite step in the right direction and proof that all fans can make a difference."

In his interview with club media last month, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said he was "not OK" with how the ticket situation had played out and the rancour it had caused.
In addition, following representation from the City Matters fans' group, the club has pledged that "under no circumstances" will the price of a ticket for Premier League game increase if it has been moved because of a clash with a cup tie.

Rio Ferdinand 'loves' $135M-rated midfielder linked with Liverpool and Man Utd
Manchester United kicked off the new Premier League campaign on a disappointing note with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. Despite the setback, Ruben Amorim's team can take some solace from the encouraging performances of new acquisitions Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Attention will now turn to striker Benjamin Sesko to provide the crucial goals following United's weekend showing. United supporters remain optimistic that a fresh midfielder will arrive before the summer transfer window shuts on 1 September. Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, who has previously been linked with Liverpool, have emerged as the most regularly discussed targets in recent weeks. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news as cult hero 'accelerates' exit after new signings READ MORE: 'I won trophies at Liverpool - but now my sons play for Manchester City' Liverpool is not expected to swoop for Wharton this summer, with a center-back and forward at the top of the Merseyside club's transfer shortlist. However, there's a chance Wharton could be linked with Liverpool again in future transfer windows, if United doesn't make a move for him this summer. Whilst Baleba's transfer seems unlikely with Brighton refusing to lower their £100 million ($135.2 million) valuation, former United center-back Rio Ferdinand has called on the club to pursue the latter. As reported by The Independent, Palace could also demand £100 million for Wharton this summer, perhaps even more. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand commented: "We've been talking about Baleba, he's been the hot topic for the last month or so, but before that, Adam Wharton was one of the guys I was saying. "He's the nearest to a Michael Carrick type, who's a controller, who can play, who plays forward from that deeper line position at times. "He can be an eight if you need him to be and can run on at times if need be, but he's more of a conductor and can control things. "I watched him in a couple of games last season against big teams like Man City and Liverpool, and he looks unfazed. He looks ready for a big occasion. "He enjoys pressure, can play under pressure, and the game kind of slows down when the ball is around him. I love him. I think he's a fantastic footballer." All attention is expected to focus on Wharton once more this campaign, should he stay at Selhurst Park. The 21-year-old was ruled out for nearly three months due to a groin problem last term but came back to deliver a standout performance in the club's FA Cup success.

Newcastle slammed for 'ludicrous' stance on Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer
Premier League clashes between Newcastle and Liverpool are typically entertaining affairs - but Monday's St. James' Park encounter promises to be particularly heated. While the on-field action should provide sufficient excitement, much of the pre-match discussion will center around Alexander Isak and his future prospects. The 25-year-old is reportedly eager to depart St. James' Park for Anfield, with the Swedish striker currently unavailable to Newcastle manager Eddie Howe due to his contentious transfer position. He is working separately from the main squad. Newcastle entered its Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday without a recognized forward and is keen to secure reinforcements before the transfer window shuts on September 1. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news as cult hero 'accelerates' exit after new signings READ MORE: 'I won trophies at Liverpool - but now my sons play for Manchester City' Newcastle is reluctant to approve Isak's exit unless an appropriate offer materialises. The Magpies price him at approximately £150 million ($202.8 million) - considerably more than Liverpool's sole bid to date, which is believed to be valued at roughly £110 million ($148.7 million). Nevertheless, former Liverpool striking legend John Aldridge has described Newcastle's position as "ludicrous" and has called upon the Magpies to moderate their stance and finalize an agreement in the forthcoming weeks. "This one on Monday will be another difficult assignment and Liverpool can't fold under the pressure," Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool ECHO. "It's obvious what the news agenda is going to be in the build up to it given the wantaway Isak and his willingness to agitate for the move to Anfield. "Liverpool have been in a similar position before where their star striker has wanted to leave. No one was more gutted than when Kevin Keegan left in 1977 and more recently we've had players who have rocked the boat in an attempt to get out of Anfield. "Luis Suarez, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres have all caused mischief to get their move, so Liverpool fans know all too well what their Newcastle counterparts are experiencing at the moment where Isak is concerned. "No player has ever been bigger than the club though when it comes to Liverpool and they have always managed to thrive after their big stars have left. It's been a case of, 'Thanks for your service, now close the door behind you on the way out.' "But look, the prospect of a £150 million bid is ludicrous. This is not Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Isak is a top striker, but that sort of fee for a player who clearly wants to leave and has even gone on strike to get it over the line I find incredible. "It's a situation that has not been handled well up at Newcastle but even their Saudi Arabian owners must realise it might be for the best to move him on and reinvest that money." Newcastle is keen to secure a striker before September 1, with potential signings including Yoane Wissa, Jorgen Stand Larsen, Goncalo Ramos, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku all rumored to be heading to Tyneside. Currently, it's anticipated that Anthony Gordon will maintain his position as the central striker in the upcoming game against Liverpool next Monday, with Will Osula providing an alternative from the bench.

Sheffield Utd need to reassure fans overhaul was worth risk
It's hard to believe that it's less than three months since Sheffield United were 15 minutes away from an immediate return to the Premier League. Hopes of another top-flight tilt have quickly been replaced by infighting between Blades supporters with frustrations directed at manager Ruben Selles and owners COH Sports, in fairly equal measure. The decision to part ways with Chris Wilder after securing 92 points and reaching the Championship play-off final was always going to be divisive and seen as a major gamble, with supporters of the boyhood Sheffield United fan seemingly ready to pounce on any whiff of trouble this season, if social media reaction is anything to go by. And with the Blades bottom of the second tier after two league games, and having lost all three matches this season including the Carabao Cup defeat at Birmingham City, there's more than a whiff of concern in the Bramall Lane air. Last week Selles described the club's summer recruitment so far as not good enough, with key players Vinicius Souza, Anel Ahmedhodzic and Kieffer Moore all sold without being replaced. The Spaniard told us he wants five more players before the transfer window closes, and he wants players ready to perform in the Championship now, not just prospects for the future. Having rolled the dice in the managerial hotseat as part of a new chapter "aimed squarely at bringing sustainable success" in the Premier League, the Blades' board has two weeks to give their man the tools he says he needs to deliver their lofty aspirations. Any hopes of a honeymoon period for Selles were swiftly ended when United lost their opening Championship game 4-1 at home to Bristol City – a side the Blades had thrashed 6-0 over two legs in the play-off semi-finals in May. But that result and poor defensive performance was compounded in South Wales last weekend as United lost 1-0 at Swansea City. Arguably the club's best current starting 11 failed to muster a single shot on goal, with questions raised over the players' body language during the game and a video circulating on social media after the match appearing to show star midfielder Gus Hamer arguing with a supporter in the away end. Some Blades fans have already called for Selles to be sacked, but is it fair to judge the Spaniard so early in his tenure, and before the end of the transfer window? I'd argue not, but both Selles and the club's American owners need a positive and productive few weeks to reassure fans that this summer's overhaul is worth the risk.
