Prince Harry has seemingly suffered a number of setbacks so far in 2025 - and a former royal aide has offered him advice for the future if he's keen to reinvent himself
Prince Harry has been given a blunt warning about his next move following a tumultuous 2025 by a former royal aide.

The Duke of Sussex has seemingly suffered a number of setbacks this year - especially when it comes to his working life as wife, Meghan Markle, presses ahead with her own lifestyle brand.

Just this week, he and others were criticised by the Charity Commission for letting a 'damaging' boardroom battle play out in the 'public eye' and harm the reputation of the charity he co-founded, Sentebale. It comes after claims Prince Harry 'admits he is still part of the Royal Family and finally sees sense'.

There have also been questions over his deal with Netflix after his shows, such as Polo and Heart of Invictus, failed to bring in the same ratings as explosive docuseries, Harry & Meghan, where he railed against his royal relatives.
In addition, he also lost his court battle over his security arrangements in the UK. After the judgment was delivered, he gave a bombshell interview to the BBC, claiming the decision was a "stitch-up" and revealed he was not on speaking terms with his father, King Charles.

And with many wondering what Harry's next move might be, the Queen's former press secretary Ailsa Anderson offered her advice on new Channel 5 documentary, Prince Harry: My Terrible Year.
She told the show he should: "Stop being the victim and start being the hero in the piece. Write your own script. I think people are just getting a little bit tired of Prince Harry talking about how the world is against him and how awful his life is."
However, she did think this crossroads would be a good opportunity for Harry, and she added: "Maybe this is a semi-colon and not a full stop. And actually, he's now got time to reinvent."

One thing that Harry could be on top of Harry's to-do list is a new project in southern Africa. The Charity Commission had investigated Sentebale after founders Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down as its patrons in support of a group of trustees, who resigned following a dispute with the board of trustees chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka.
The watchdog criticised all parties in the fallout for allowing it to play out publicly and described how all trustees contributed to a 'missed opportunity' to resolve the issues that led to the serious disagreement that risked undermining public trust in charities generally.

Harry founded charity Sentebale in 2006 with Prince Seeiso to help young people and children in southern Africa, particularly those living with HIV and Aids.
And after the Charity Commission's report was released, the duke's spokesperson said Harry would find alternatives to helping the children supported by Sentebale in Lesotho and Botswana.

He said: 'As custodians of this once brilliant charity, Prince Seeiso, Prince Harry and the former board of trustees helped grow Sentebale from the seed of an idea to – like its namesake – a flowering force for good.
'With the original mission of Sentebale firmly in mind – and in honour of the legacy he and Prince Seeiso began – the Duke of Sussex will now focus on finding new ways to continue supporting the children of Lesotho and Botswana.'
Prince Harry: My Terrible Year airs on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm.

Love Island's Harry 'proves doubters wrong' on first days outside villa

Harry Cooksley, who finished in second place on the dating programme, has shared a glimpse into his life after the villa - and silenced the sceptics Love Island's Harry Cooksley has shut down his critics on his first day back from Majorca. The footballer, who stepped into the ITV villa on day one and reached the finale, clinched second place alongside partner Shakira Khan, 22. ‌ Now, the 30 year old reality television personality has turned to TikTok to offer followers an insight into his private world. In a vlog-style clip shared on 8 August, Harry chronicled his return journey from Spain, which kicked off at the break of dawn. ‌ Upon arriving home, the sportsman headed straight to a supermarket he lovingly referenced throughout his villa stint. It comes after Paul Weller reveals the unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts. ‌ "This whole experience has been wild and I've been wondering what life's gonna be like after. It is gonna be so weird," he reflects in the footage, reports the Daily Star. He continued: "I proved some of the doubters wrong, I headed straight to Aldi to pick up the essentials." Harry incorporated a brief moment from Love Island where he and Shakira contemplated their post-celebrity existence, with Shakira voicing concerns about managing everyday activities like popping to Aldi. ‌ This touching conversation took place as the pair were rekindling their connection, after Harry's original coupling with fellow day-one Islander Helena Ford. Despite his new-found fame, the Farnham Town player encountered no difficulties whilst browsing the aisles at Aldi. In another segment of the now-viral clip, Harry discloses that he also dropped by to see his mum during his initial days back on home soil. "It's been a bit odd being away from her these past few months. We're thick as thieves, I see her every week, so it was a treat to catch up and dish the dirt on Island life," he added. The ITV heartthrob experienced quite the emotional journey on the reality dating show. He initially paired up with Shakira shortly after the series began, but their budding romance faced turbulence when his attention shifted to Helena. ‌ Finding himself in a vexing love triangle, the 22 year old ultimately chose to sever ties with Harry, which resulted in him spending most of the season with Helena. Yet, in an unexpected twist, Shakira revealed she still had feelings for Harry. In a surprising turn of events, Harry and Shakira rekindled their flame just days before the final, securing the runner-up position with 26% of the public vote. Earlier this week, Harry said he thinks he 'handled things the wrong way' when it comes to his infamous triangle on Love Island. ‌ in their first joint interview as a couple, Harry has spoken out on his behaviour in the villa which saw him play Shakira and Helena against each other time and time again. He also sat back as Helena and Shakira took the triangle drama out on each other. Just days after the final, he has admitted that he hasn't actually spoken to Helena but gave a positive update on the status of their relationship now that the show is over. He told Christine Lampard on Friday's edition of Lorraine: "I think I definitely handled things in the wrong way with Helena and Shakira. But at the end of the day, Helena and I are now moving forward as friends. I haven't actually spoken to her since I've been out but we had a couple of conversations before she left the villa and I'm delighted it's amicable." Christine then quizzed Shakira on how she felt during the whole situation, and she said: "Honestly it was heartbreaking and having to watch it pan out every day was so tough. I think in the outside world you can have a bit of distance, you can speak to each other. It was something I'd never experienced before." Elsewhere in the series, Harry had to deal with his ex-girlfriend Emma Munro arriving as a Bombshell during the Casa Amor portion of the competition and joked that he and the other boys had been hitting the gym every day in an attempt to impress the girls before all the drama unfolded.

Meghan Markle left 'in tears' over Prince William's brutal 'bullying' statement

Buckingham Palace issued a joint statement about 'bullying' that left Meghan in tears and Harry furious. It's safe to say that Prince Harry and Prince William haven't seen eye-to-eye recently. The estranged royal brothers have carved out their separate lives on opposite sides of the Atlantic since the Sussexes stepped down from royal life after they married. ‌ And in the Sussexes' controversial Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the couple took aim at William. The series recalls a point that Harry claims left him furious and his wife in floods of tears. ‌ The issue came when Harry did not give his permission for a joint palace statement to be put out dismissing bullying claims, reports the Mirror. It comes as Harry and Meghan's latest attempt to "build bridges and move on" has backfired, according to a leading royal expert. ‌ Speaking over clips of the brothers playing in an old fire truck and newspaper headlines about the acrimony in their relationship in episode five, Harry said in the show: "I mean, the saddest part of it was this wedge created between me and my brother so that he's now on the institution's side. "And I get, part of that I get. I understand right? That's his inheritance, so to some extent it's already ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survivability and the continuation of this institution. ‌ "That day, a story came out that part of the reason why Meghan and I were leaving was because William had bullied us out. And once I got in the car after the meeting, I was told about a joint statement that had been put out in my name and my brother's name squashing the story about him bullying us out of the family. "I couldn't believe it. No one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that. And I rang M and I told her and she burst into floods of tears because within four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother and yet for three years, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us." It comes as King Charles and Harry's senior aides held a secret peace summit in London last month, said to be the first notable step in in a 'rapprochement process' where broken bonds can finally heal. ‌ The Mail on Sunday revealed that Meredith Maines, the Duke of Sussexes' chief communications officer, flew in from LA to meet Tobyn Andreae, the King's communications secretary, at the members-only Royal Over-Seas League club, which is located near Clarence House, the King's London residence. Prince Harry's UK PR team lead, Liam Maguire, was also present. A source told the publication: "There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in year. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about." ‌ While Prince William's team were reportedly not invited to the shock summit, experts have revealed the hidden role he will have likely played behind the scenes as the future of the monarchy. They claim that while William is far less inclined to reconcile with his estranged brother, whom he's reportedly not spoken to in years, the meeting would have never happened without his 'support and understanding'. ‌ "He has undoubtedly been furious at the way the Sussexes have behaved and undoubtedly regards Harry's behaviour as treason of a sort. They reportedly have not spoken in over two years.' And royal author Phil Dampier said: "The King is more anxious to patch things up than William, who I believe will never be close to his brother again." Harry is due to head back to the UK in September for the annual WellChild events, an opportunity which could see him reunite with his dad for the first time in 18 months. But William doesn't appear to have any plans to see his brother, despite the peace talks. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'I knew Prince Andrew - the explosive new claims fit my impression of his arrogance'

Prince Andrew is the centre of a new biography that makes fresh claims of his behaviour towards staff and obsession with status - and now a royal expert has weighed in on the allegations As Prince Andrew faces a slew of allegations about his behaviour in a new biography, someone who knew him has confirmed that the portrayal of the royal as 'arrogant, pompous, and obsessed' is accurate. ‌ The book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the Yorks, by Andrew Lownie includes claims about Andrew's relationship with Sarah Ferguson, and his supposed rants at staff members. ‌ Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror that Andrew is 'the problem that won't go away' for the royal family. She said: "Every few months now, there seem to be new allegations about Prince Andrew and lurid stories about his behaviour over the years.' ‌ She went on to explain that summer is usually a period of calm for the royals - something which will have been disrupted by the release of the biography. Bond said: "I'm sure the book will have infuriated Andrew. I have to say, though, that from my own experience of meeting the Duke and my conversations with many people who have known him or worked with him over the years, there is a distinct ring of truth about his portrayal in this book. Arrogant, pompous and obsessed with status was my abiding impression of him." ‌ The book also claimed that Ferguson lived a life of 'opulent excess' which included wild spending on staff, holidays, and parties. The Mirror contacted the Duke and Duchess of York for comment. While the King is likely to be exasperated by having to read about Andrew's 'shenanigans', Bond said that we should not expect any retaliation as the pair are still brothers. She said: 'I suspect the King will just roll his eyes, probably swear about Andrew under his breath — but then get on with more important things in life.' Lownie's book is more than 450 pages long and is said to have taken four years to research. He explained on Good Morning Britain that he started writing the biography after the infamous Newsnight interview in which Andrew discussed his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. The historian explained: 'The thing with Andrew is you can't believe a word he says.' Lownie also said that Andrew "lost his protector" when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died, and that if he were to advise him on communications, he would suggest to Andrew to "keep a low profile" and "try to win back the respect of the British people". Discussing the title of his book, Lownie said that Andrew was "spoilt as a child" and was never set "any boundaries", which meant that he was always allowed to get away with his behaviour.
