Nets bring in Auburn's Johni Broome for 2025 NBA Draft workout

Nets bring in Auburn's Johni Broome for 2025 NBA Draft workout The Brooklyn Nets still have a few weeks to go before they have to make some important decisions in the 2025 NBA Draft that begins on June 25. Brooklyn will be the busiest team at the Draft given that they have five picks in total to use and while they may not be using all of their picks in the event, they are still doing their due diligence just to be on the safe side. One of the ways that the Nets have been doing their homework is by bringing in players for predraft workouts since Brooklyn has all five of their picks in the top-36 of the Draft. The Nets have brought in a significant amount of players in for workouts already, but one of the players they brought in was Auburn center Johni Broome, who seemingly confirmed as such through his Instagram. On Wednesday, Broome posted a photo of a Nets workout shirt with the number four on his story, indicating that he was either getting ready for the workout or had just finished it. It's not specified in the photo what the number four is for, but it's most likely a reference to his jersey number as he wore the number four during his college career at Morehead State and Auburn. Broome, 22, is coming off a senior season at Auburn in which he averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 51.0% from the field and 27.8% from three-point land. Broome was not only the SEC Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season, but he was also a consensus All-American, showing how highly-regarded he was. Broome is expected to be taken in the second round of the upcoming Draft and might be a target for Brooklyn. "Projecting Broome to the next level, teams should be able to bank on him for low-post offense, second-chance points, passing and shot-blocking. His usage, value and role ultimately changes if he becomes a more reliable spot-up or pick-and-pop three-point shooter," Bleacher Report NBA Draft expert Jonathan Wasserman during his write up on the 6-foot-9, 249-pound center.

Meredith Gaudreau Surprises Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan With The NHL's Bill Masterton Trophy

Columbus Blue Jackets center Sean Monahan received the Bill Masterton Trophy in an emotional surprise from Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of Johnny Gaudreau. The award goes "to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey," and the Professional Hockey Writers Association voted for Monahan as the person who best displayed those qualities this year. Advertisement Johnny Gaudreau was Monahan's teammate and close friend before he and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau were killed while riding bicycles in August 2024 when a car struck them. Johnny was 31, while Matthew was 29. It was a difficult season for Monahan, the Blue Jackets, the Gaudreau family and the entire hockey community. She communicated with Monahan's wife, Brittany, to trick him into thinking that she had scheduled family photos to be taken. Therefore, Monahan wouldn't be confused with cameras in their home. After Meredith was welcomed in, she and Monahan shared an emotional moment. Advertisement 'Sean, you mean everything to John,' Meredith said to him. 'It's just really special that I could be a part of this because this one is about you. 'You persevered through one of the hardest things, and you just lead by example. This one's for celebrating your character and how good of a person you are.' Monahan's perseverance and leadership touched everyone, including Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner. 'Just the way Monny has persevered through really, really hard times. It's been inspiring to me and to the whole group,' Jenner told The Athletic's Aaron Portzline in April. 'The way he's handled himself, just stepping in here under those circumstances. He's been a leader in the room and a leader on the ice. He's a true pro. Everyone can learn from him.' Advertisement The two other finalists were Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who has played his final season in the NHL at the age of 40, and Colorado Avalanche left winger Gabriel Landeskog, who made a dramatic return to the NHL after suffering a knee injury that kept him out of hockey for nearly three years. The motion requested temporary exclusive use of the couple's home for Vaccaro, along with limiting Hill's access to Capri to 'supervised timesharing.'
