Moment Edinburgh Fringe performer 'attacked by youths' on Royal Mile
A performer was "harassed by a group of youths" as he handed out flyers for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Eddie Jen, who uses he/she pronouns, is performing his 'Seeking a PenPal For the End of the World' show at the festival this year.
The entertainer was handing out flyers dressed in drag but was left devastated with the manner one of the group treated her, reports Edinburgh Live.
The moment, which was captured on video, shows two young, male youths approach Eddie outside a corner shop. Sharing the clip online, he claims the duo "beat him on the head", ripped off his bow and poured their drinks on him.
Getting over 200,000 views, the video clip has since gone viral and many people have offered their support to the performer. The footage was captioned: "I was attacked in drag at Edinburgh Fringe 2025. It's my first solo show.
"I was so excited to flyer and find an audience and then a group of young men began harassing me. They beat me on the head, ripped off my bow and poured their drinks on me."
Afterwards another male comes up to Eddie and offers some napkins before asking what happened.
The male said: "They're just harassing folk for clout. Don't worry, it's not how we are here. You are welcome."
Almost 1000 comments have come in after the short clip was posted online. One person said: "Why is it always teenagers? Where are their parents?
"I'm terrified of teenage boys in Edinburgh, they're just looking for trouble."
A second said: "That's so bad a member of the public has to explain this is not how Scotland is and excusing their bad behaviour."
"I'm so sorry this happened to you. I live in Edinburgh and unfortunately this type of stuff happens a lot. It's horrible but not all teenagers are like that", a third commented.

Fringe 2025 – Nancy's Philosopher
The play Nancy's Philosopher being staged by the Arkle Theatre Company, with Nicole Burnett Smith as Nancy Ord is on daily until 16 August at The Royal Scots Club. (not 10th) The story centres on a young woman who scandalised Edinburgh society by falling in love with the much older David Hume, historian and philosopher. David Black, the former journalist who write the play lives and works in Edinburgh. He said: 'In 2006 I was busy preparing an academic paper for a scholarly conference in London on a little known incident in the life of David Hume – his passionate relationship with Nancy Ord, daughter of Robert Ord, Baron of the Scottish Exchequer, whose Adam designed town house at 8 Queen Street still exists. Listen to our interview with David Black here Mr Black said: 'I thought this is a fantastic story, much too good for a bunch of academics. And I had seen an actress at the Edinburgh Fringe perform a play she'd written herself about Zelda Fitzgerald, and I was blown away by her skill. So I got in touch with her and asked, if she would you like me to write a play for her on the love life of the 18th century philosopher David Hume and his love life. And she was delighted to help out. 'So we had a play premiered at Summerhall initially, and it was pretty successful. It got a very good reviews. And then I let it lie for a while, and we revived it in 2019 and there were thoughts of it going over to New York, but covid came, and that was that. And then recently, I was approached by friend of mine with the Arkle Theatre Company, and they wanted to put it on. 'Now their production, in a way, has nothing to do with me, but they've been very kind consulting me, and he actually found an actress who was prepared to consider playing the part. It'll be a very different production. 'Unfortunately at around that time Hume's reputation was seriously impugned because, although he supported the abolition of slavery, he voiced a suspicion in a footnote which some have interpreted as racist. Edinburgh University then contentiously removed his name from the David Hume Tower in George Square. 'I had discussed writing a radio version of the play, but unfortunately the subject had become too toxic, so that was that – until this year as the play is on the Fringe.' The play is a love story although David Hume was already in his sixties when he met Nancy Ord daughter of the Baron of the Exchequer who lived at 8 Queen Street. A letter from David Hume to Nancy is used verbatim in the play and the writer is very pleased to have written the play in the voice of a woman. David Black said: 'In history we rarely get the voice of the woman apart from the odd one – such as Abigail Adams. Drones and other flying crafts will be strictly prohibited as aviation watchdogs issue a warning to anyone looking to deploy a device which could injure fans below. A penalty will be dished out to anyone breaking the rule and those behind the event have warned there will be an extensive security operation at the capital events. Similar rules were brought in for Oasis' comeback performances in Manchester's Heaton Park and Cardiff's Principality Stadium last month, the Sun reports. Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are set to take to the stage in Scotland for the first time in fifteen years this week. They will play three sold out shows on Friday August 9, Saturday August 10 and Tuesday August 12. A source said: 'Banning drones above the gigs is the right move. All it takes is something to go wrong or someone who doesn't know how to properly fly a drone to make a mistake. "If one falls into the crowd people could end up badly hurt.'
