Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurates, lays foundation stone of development projects in Kota
'Inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects including a high level bridge over the Kalisindh river in Barod-Budhadit of Kota parliamentary constituency. From bridge construction to new roads, classrooms and new buildings, these works are ensuring that no citizen is deprived of basic amenities,' Om Birla posted on X.
Emphasising the significance of the infrastructure, Om Birla said, 'This bridge built between Barod and Chambal Dhipri will now not allow the movement of people to be disrupted during floods, and will connect every village, dhani and farm of the area with a strong road network. This will also directly benefit our food producers, their produce will now reach the markets faster and the pace of development will reach the villages.'
'Many efforts have been initiated from drinking water schemes to health services and making women self-reliant. I am confident that in the coming years, the Kota-Bundi region will play a leading role in Rajasthan's development model and will realize our resolve of 'all-inclusive, all-encompassing' development,' his post added.
Earlier in the day, Om Birla congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being awarded the highest civilian award in Cyprus, the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III.'
Birla said that the award symbolises the efficient leadership of the PM Modi and reflects our country's diplomatic successes.
'Hearty congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being awarded the Republic of Cyprus' highest civilian honour, the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III'. The Order of Makarios III, the highest merit honour awarded in Cyprus, is named after Makarios III, the first president of the Republic of Cyprus. It is conferred upon heads of state and other people of significant status in recognition of meritorious service to the nation.
Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to President Christodoulides, the government and people of Cyprus for the honour.

He expressed confidence that the ties between two nations will touch new heights.He stated, 'I am confident that in the time to come, our active partnership will touch new heights. Together, we will not only strengthen the progress of our two nations but also contribute towards building a peaceful and secure global environment.'
Christodoulides welcomed PM Modi to the Presidential Palace in Nicosia earlier in the day. The Cypriot President and PM Modi introduced each other to the delegates from their respective countries.
PM Modi reached Cyprus on Sunday afternoon (local time), marking the first visit by an Indian PM to the island nation in over two decades.
He was received by the Cypriot President at Larnaca International Airport.He received a heartfelt welcome from the Indian diaspora in Limassol. Upon his arrival, PM Modi, along with Cyprus President Christodoulides, interacted with leading CEOs during the business roundtable. (ANI)

‘About half of forest rights claims distributed': MoEFCC in Lok Sabha
Around 2.389 million individual forest rights claims and 1.21 lakh community titles have been distributed so far under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, the Union environment ministry (MoEFCC ) informed the Lok Sabha on Monday. 'As per the provisions of 'The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006' and Rules there under, the state governments are responsible for implementation of various provisions of the Act. The ministry of tribal affairs is the nodal ministry for monitoring the implementation of the Act,' Kirti Vardhan Singh, minister of state for environment, said in the Lok Sabha Congress MP Adv. Gowaal Kagada Padavi had raised questions on: 1. whether the Government maintains updated records of individual and community forest rights claims under Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006; 2. the number of pending claims along with the reasons for delay in approval, State-wise; 3. whether tribal Gram Sabhas are empowered to make final decisions on claims; 4. the steps taken to prevent eviction of traditional forest dwellers without due process; 5. whether any States have been found violating FRA provisions among others. In response, the MoEFCC said, 'As stipulated in Section 6(6) of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, the final decision on claims lies with the District Level Committee.' Further, the MoEFCC also informed that no forest dweller can be evicted before recognition of forest rights. 'As per provisions of Section 4(5) of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, no member of a forest dwelling Scheduled Tribe or other traditional forest dwellers shall be evicted or removed from the forest land under occupation till the recognition and verification procedure is complete,' the minister said. Since state/UTs are responsible for the implementation of the Act, the grievances and representations received in the tribal affairs ministry are forwarded to the concerned state/UTs. Further, the ministry has been urging all state governments to abide by the provisions of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 and ensure timely disposal of the claims, Singh informed. 'The tribal affairs ministry has been advising states, district administrations and state forest departments to conduct awareness campaigns among all stakeholders on the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006,' he added. A United Nations Development Programme report on 'Securing Rights, Enabling Futures: Policy Lessons & Pathways from FRA for Accelerating Tribal Development' released earlier this month recommended a National Tribal Policy/National Acceleration Plan for tribal development for next five years may be framed, integrating tribal governance and sustainable development as interconnected outcomes. Forest rights holders may be recognised as a category across all social protection and livelihood programmes. Policies and schemes related to forests, land, and natural resource governance must be designed to facilitate the actualization of these rights, the report stated. HT reported on July 6 that the tribal affairs ministry had asked for scientific evidence from the environment ministry to substantiate claims that granting forest rights to tribal communities causes forest degradation, escalating a tussle over a landmark 2006 legislation that recognises traditional forest rights of tribal communities in protected areas.

Mr. Singh, the Minister of State in the PMO, said after opening up the space sector for private players in 2020, India's space economy has already reached $8 billion and would touch $45 billion in the next decade.
