ME Azaad: Voice Behind the Scenes
This doctorate is the result of over three decades of work, not just in entertainment, but in spiritual and social spaces too. I've lent my voice to devotional works across faiths — from Jesus to Shirdi Sai Baba and Chilkur Balaji to Quranic verses. In advertising, I've worked with leading agencies like RK Swamy, Lintas, and Ulka, lending my voice and creative direction to over 600 jingles. But my work extended far beyond narration; I was scripting, conceptualising, composing, and voicing, often doing the work of five professionals in one. One of the most fulfilling chapters was training blind children in voice culture. For them, voice was not just expression but identity and independence. Watching them speak with confidence was more rewarding than any accolade. I've also made it a point to donate 25% of my earnings to charitable causes. When I received my doctorate, it felt like the universe's acknowledgment that a voice, when used with purpose, can truly be a force for change.

A different gospel: Reimagining Jesus Christ
(NOTE: This article was originally published in the India Today issue dated August 18, 2025)In Benyamin's novel The Second Book of Prophets (a re-imagining of the lives of Jesus Christ and his followers), there's a scene where Jesus is struggling to overcome a moment of self-doubt. The Jews think of him as a saviour foretold. But Jesus himself doesn't believe that true freedom (religious or political) can be achieved without a transformation of society, in a way that protects the poor masses. 'For a man burdened with agony and suffering, there's no liberation,' he thinks. The scene signals the central conceit of the book—writing the character of Jesus Christ as a young, angst-fuelled revolutionary who wants social reform not as a means to power but as an aspirational goal all by about the novel during an interview, Benyamin says, 'This novel happened after I read studies on recent discoveries related to the history of Christianity, like the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi library. These new texts challenge our preconceptions of what that time would have looked like.' In previous novels like Yellow Lights of Death (2015) and Body and Blood (2020), Benyamin had used Christian theology and history as pivotal plot The Second Book of Prophets, he has joined Anatole France, Jose Saramago, Norman Mailer et al, writers who produced fictionalisations of the life of Christ. There's a sense you get that Benyamin is focusing on the parts of Christ's journey that are readily applicable to modern-day socio-political contexts. 'When readers get something relevant to the current context, it's easier for them to stay invested in the story,' he says. 'I wanted to show how Jesus a social reformer. He wanted to change the way we live and not just change the way we pray.' Subscribe to India Today Magazine- Ends

Justin Bieber says he ‘can be extremely selfish and impatient' amidst rumours of marriage struggles with Hailey Bieber
Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber offered an honest glimpse into his mindset with a spiritual and self-aware message on social media. 'Thanking Jesus for his patience with me this morning. I can be extremely selfish and impatient yet Jesus always has his arms open toward me,' the singer wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. Justin Bieber(AFP) Alongside photos of himself smiling while on a peaceful hike in the woods, the 31-year-old added, 'Let's have a good day, let's go outside. Get in nature.' The update follows the release of his surprise album Swag, which came out earlier this month. The 21-track, R&B-infused project marked his return to music after a four-year hiatus and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200—giving him the biggest streaming week of his career. His wife, Hailey Bieber, has been by his side throughout the album's rollout. She appeared with him on promotional billboards, joined him at a listening party where the couple shared a passionate kiss, and supported the release with a bold Instagram Story: 'Is it finally clocking to you f*****g losers?' Justin and Hailey also share their son, Jack Blues, who is 11 months old. Earlier this year, Justin opened up about long-standing feelings of self-doubt. 'I personally have always felt unworthy, like I was a fraud. Like when people told me I deserve something, it made me feel sneaky like, 'Damn, if they only knew my thoughts, how judgmental I am, how selfish I really am. They wouldn't be saying this," ,' he wrote in March via Instagram story. 'I say all this to say, if you feel sneaky welcome to the club. I definitely feel unequipped and unqualified most days,' he added. In another post in June, he further opened up about his emotional struggles. 'Jesus is the only person who keeps me wanting to make my life about others,' he wrote, adding that he was feeling 'broken' and grappling with 'anger issues.'
