Red Sea Situation Suitable for Gradual Return of Ships to Suez Canal, Says SCA Chairman

Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, participated on Saturday in a major symposium organized by the Egyptian Maritime Association under the title: "Challenges Facing the Suez Canal in Light of Regional and International Changes."
In his opening remarks, Rabie noted that the escalating security tensions in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait have significantly impacted shipping traffic through the Suez Canal, forcing many shipping lines to change their routes and resort to the Cape of Good Hope route. This has led to increased travel times and higher operating costs, which has negatively impacted global inflation rates.
The chairman of the authority explained that the Suez Canal has adopted a flexible approach to dealing with the repercussions of the crisis, through direct communication with international shipping companies to study the possibility of modifying their sailing schedules and coordinating the gradual return to transiting the Canal. He noted that the security situation has improved, allowing for the gradual resumption of shipping traffic through the Canal.
He also added that the Authority has responded to requests from some shipping lines by offering incentives and discounts of up to 15% for vessels with a capacity exceeding 130,000 tons, for a period of three months. This step aims to ease their financial burdens and encourage them to re-include the Suez Canal in their shipping routes.
He concluded by emphasizing that the current crisis has proven the importance of the Suez Canal as an indispensable shipping route, given the time and cost savings it provides, as well as the comprehensive maritime and logistical services it provides—advantages that the alternative route via the Cape of Good Hope lacks.
In his speech, Major General Samir Farag emphasized that the Egyptian state's neutral stance regarding the situation in the Red Sea has strengthened confidence in the Suez Canal as a safe and neutral international passageway, contributing to the stability of global supply chains and trade. He emphasized that the Canal will remain the most efficient and feasible shipping route despite attempts to develop alternative routes.
On his part, Khaled Abu Bakr, Advisor to the Chairman of the Authority for Legal and International Affairs emphasized that the Suez Canal is subject to international agreements that render it neutral regarding political disputes and conflicts, which strengthens its position as an international shipping lane that enjoys the trust of customers and international partners.

Degwy family lawyer reveals details of the fortune distribution
The legal representative for Nawal al-Degwy and her two granddaughters, Mohamed Shehata, revealed the fate of the shares between the heirs of Sherif al-Degwy's sons and Mona al-Degwy's daughters such the ownership structure of the companies and institutions under dispute. During a telephone interview with TV host Lamis al-Hadidi on the 'Last Word' (Kalema Akhera) TV show, Shehata said, 'This issue has more than one aspect.' 'Discussing the estate of a living person is a sensitive matter, but the settlement currently underway, sponsored by Nawal el-Degwy, to reunite the family, is still being discussed between institutions and companies and is the subject of negotiations,' Shehata said, adding 'I am optimistic that we will reach a quick solution to this issue.' In response to Al-Hadidi's question: 'Has the late Mona al-Degwy's will actually been opened in the past few days?' Shehata replied: 'Indeed, that happened. A year before her passing, the late Mona al-Degwy had deposited a sealed will at the Real Estate Registry. It was opened and reviewed a few days ago.' He continued: 'In it, she bequeathed a third of her entire estate to her two daughters, Engy and Mahy. I was appointed by the deceased to be the executor of that will.' In response to al-Hadidi's question: 'Is the third she bequeathed outside the (Islamic) legal inheritance?' Shehata said: 'Yes, the third does not include the (Islamic) legal inheritance. Egyptian law allows for a bequest to an heir, as Nawal al-Degwy will inherit one-sixth (from her daughter Mona's estate), and her two daughters will have a share outside the will. The remaining percentage will be distributed among the males of the family, who are Ahmed al-Degwy's heirs: Amr al-Degwy and Mohamed.' Shehata continued: 'Egyptian law also stipulates that the implementation of wills and inheritance begins with the payment of all debts owed by the deceased. Then the will is given, which may not, under any circumstances, exceed one-third, as Mona al-Degwy did. Then, the remainder of the estate after the one-third allocated by the will is distributed according to the legal shares among the grandmother, the two granddaughters, and the grandsons.' Hadidi interrupted him, asking, 'Have you taken stock of this inheritance or what she has left behind?' Shehata replied, 'The inventory process is underway, and it will be part of the comprehensive settlement of all disputes, because we are eager to ensure that no blemish remains in this family.'

Egypt working round-the-clock for a superb Grand Egyptian Museum opening - Tourism
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed Sunday the ongoing cooperation and coordination among all relevant entities to ensure the successful organisation of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)'s official opening, scheduled for 3 July. Madbouly's remarks came during his meeting with officials to follow up on the developments in the event's preparations. He noted that weekly meetings will be held to monitor updates and ensure progress on the arrangements. In addition, Madbouly directed that the celebration highlight the significance of this world-class landmark and reflect the progress that Egypt has achieved and witnessed in several areas and respects. According to the Egyptian cabinet, the Egyptian PM said the grand celebration should show the world the significance of Egypt's distinguished history and ancient civilisation. The participants in the meeting also reviewed the steps taken to send invitations to esteemed guests, including kings, presidents, prime ministers, senior officials, and corporate leaders. They also discussed the list of those who have confirmed their attendance and the coordination status with Egyptian diplomatic missions worldwide regarding the grand event. Moreover, Madbouly and the officials discussed the logistical arrangements for the guests' arrival and departure, including airports, hotels, and transportation routes to the event venue. They also addressed the event's agenda. The GEM is located near the newly inaugurated Sphinx International Airport and overlooks the iconic Pyramids of Giza. The museum, set to become the largest museum worldwide dedicated to a single civilisation—ancient Egypt—spans an impressive 500,000 sqm, twice the area of the Louvre Museum and two and a half times the area of the British Museum.
