Red Sea Situation Suitable for Gradual Return of Ships to Suez Canal, Says SCA Chairman
Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, participated on Saturday in a major symposium organized by the Egyptian Maritime Association under the title: "Challenges Facing the Suez Canal in Light of Regional and International Changes."
In his opening remarks, Rabie noted that the escalating security tensions in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait have significantly impacted shipping traffic through the Suez Canal, forcing many shipping lines to change their routes and resort to the Cape of Good Hope route. This has led to increased travel times and higher operating costs, which has negatively impacted global inflation rates.
The chairman of the authority explained that the Suez Canal has adopted a flexible approach to dealing with the repercussions of the crisis, through direct communication with international shipping companies to study the possibility of modifying their sailing schedules and coordinating the gradual return to transiting the Canal. He noted that the security situation has improved, allowing for the gradual resumption of shipping traffic through the Canal.
He also added that the Authority has responded to requests from some shipping lines by offering incentives and discounts of up to 15% for vessels with a capacity exceeding 130,000 tons, for a period of three months. This step aims to ease their financial burdens and encourage them to re-include the Suez Canal in their shipping routes.
He concluded by emphasizing that the current crisis has proven the importance of the Suez Canal as an indispensable shipping route, given the time and cost savings it provides, as well as the comprehensive maritime and logistical services it provides—advantages that the alternative route via the Cape of Good Hope lacks.
In his speech, Major General Samir Farag emphasized that the Egyptian state's neutral stance regarding the situation in the Red Sea has strengthened confidence in the Suez Canal as a safe and neutral international passageway, contributing to the stability of global supply chains and trade. He emphasized that the Canal will remain the most efficient and feasible shipping route despite attempts to develop alternative routes.
On his part, Khaled Abu Bakr, Advisor to the Chairman of the Authority for Legal and International Affairs emphasized that the Suez Canal is subject to international agreements that render it neutral regarding political disputes and conflicts, which strengthens its position as an international shipping lane that enjoys the trust of customers and international partners.

Egyptians abroad can easily invest in stocks, funds via apps, says FRA chief
Egyptians living abroad can easily invest in the Egyptian Exchange and in investment funds through technological applications, the head of the country's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has said. Speaking at the 6th Conference for Egyptians Abroad, FRA Chairperson Mohamed Farid said that developing flexible and integrated insurance solutions to provide effective coverage for Egyptians abroad is a top priority for the authority. He added that fintech has provided broader opportunities for the diaspora to benefit from non-banking financial tools in an easy and safe way, strengthening their connection to their homeland and opening up avenues for them to participate in development plans. The conference, which was opened by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, was organised by the ministries of foreign affairs and emigration. Farid noted that the non-banking financial sector, with its insurance, financing, and investment services, is a cornerstone of economic growth. He said technology allows Egyptians abroad to partner with major national companies in promising sectors and benefit from diverse investment funds. The FRA chief highlighted the development of a personal accident insurance policy for Egyptians abroad and their families, which he said reflects the state's commitment to protecting its citizens. He noted that after the insurance payout was increased to 250,000 Egyptian pounds, the number of insured individuals saw a noticeable increase of 20% in July 2025 alone. The number of insured Egyptians abroad has reached 1.3 million as of the end of July 2025, with 120 compensation cases totalling 10 million pounds paid out, Farid said. He also pointed to the launch in 2023 of the first pension policy for Egyptian citizens abroad, which aims to provide an additional pension and can be purchased electronically. Farid outlined the FRA's efforts to digitise non-banking financial transactions, beginning with a 2014 decision to regulate the electronic distribution of standard insurance policies and continuing with recent executive decisions to implement Law No. 5 of 2022, which established the regulatory framework for using technology in non-banking financial activities. The FRA is committed to developing and providing services that meet the needs of Egyptians working abroad and to continuing its efforts to improve insurance inclusion and expand the base of beneficiaries, he concluded.

Turkish embassy in Cairo hosts solidarity event for Gaza refugees, vulnerable Egyptians - City Lights - Life & Style
The Turkish embassy in Cairo held a solidarity event on 1 August for Palestinian families displaced from Gaza and vulnerable Egyptian families, in a show of humanitarian support and rejection of forced displacement. The gathering, held at the ambassador's official residence, brought together 300 Gaza refugee families currently living in Egypt and 100 Egyptian families in need. Around 100 journalists also attended to cover the event. The initiative was organized in coordination with Turkish and Egyptian NGOs and with support from the Palestinian embassy in Cairo. It was co-hosted by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) and Egypt's Al-Wafaa Development Association. The programme featured cultural performances, including traditional dabka dancing by Palestinian youth and patriotic songs by children from Gaza. Turkish ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen with Gaza refugee families and needy Egyptian families at his residence Speaking at the event, Turkey's ambassador to Egypt, Salih Mutlu Şen, reaffirmed his country's support for Palestinians. He said Turkey, under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, remains committed to aiding 'the oppressed and afflicted people of Gaza,' and that recent actions reflect the broader sentiment of the Turkish public. Şen noted that Turkey had resumed humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza via Egypt, with 180 Turkish aid trucks included in a recent convoy through the Rafah crossing. He added that maritime shipments to Arish may resume depending on the progress of ceasefire negotiations and coordination efforts, particularly with the Turkish Red Crescent and AFAD, Turkey's disaster relief agency. He acknowledged Egypt's role in hosting nearly 100,000 Gazans since the start of the genocidal Israeli war on the Strip and said many still face economic hardship. Turkey, he said, intends to help ease that burden by continuing its support for displaced Palestinians. Şen highlighted past Turkish initiatives, including a programme with the Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi Foundation and the Palestinian authorities that funded tuition for 10,000 Palestinian university students in Egypt. He also referenced Eid El-Adha aid efforts that included ritual sacrifices distributed to families in need. The ambassador thanked the Palestinian embassy and Al-Wafaa Association for organizing the event and said the Turkish embassy would continue its assistance in coordination with Egyptian authorities. Crucially, Şen reiterated Turkey's categorical rejection—shared with Egypt—to any form of forced or so-called voluntary relocation of Palestinians from Gaza, warning such moves could lead to broader efforts to depopulate Palestinian territories. He stressed that evacuating 'even a quarter' of Gaza's population would 'dangerously normalize the idea of mass displacement.' He also stressed Turkey's role in ceasefire negotiations, alongside Egypt, Qatar, and the US, and welcomed France and the UK's intentions to recognize the State of Palestine as 'historic and positive'. In closing, Şen urged displaced Palestinians to 'preserve their identity, remember Gaza, and hold onto the hope of return,' pledging that Turkey and the broader Islamic world would continue to support them. He said all of the embassy's actions align with the directives of President Erdoğan and the collective will of the Turkish people—a stance, he added, that 'will remain steadfast'.
