Yahoo3 days ago
The Texas Tech football team spent the offseason loading up on talent and depth through the transfer portal, which should help the Red Raiders as they begin preseason camp this week.
During the team's local media day on Tuesday, Joey McGuire provided an updated injury report for a handful of Red Raiders who will be out of action for at least the first month, while a few others should return in the next week or two.
Safety Chapman Lewis and linebacker Justin Horne are each coming off ACL injuries suffered last season. McGuire said each should be back around Oct. 15. The focus remains on utilizing a redshirt year for Lewis, who has been a mainstay in the secondary for Texas Tech in his first two years in Lubbock.

Colorado transfer offensive lineman Cash Cleveland, who joined the team in the spring, will be out until early to mid-September. He is dealing with a foot injury. Fellow offensive lineman Ellis Davis (back) should be back in the fold in late September. Defensive backs Macho Stevenson (shoulder) and Braylan McDonald (hamstring) should be back by the second or third game of the regular season.
A few other players should be back before the season begins. This list includes starting safety AJ McCarty (hamstring) and defensive end Terrel Tilmon (foot), who McGuire could be back by the second week of practice.
Receiver Tyson Turner, McGuire said, is getting X-rays this week for a collarbone injury.

Cardinals Could Make Drastic Kyler Murray Decision, Insider Says

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It has been a wild road for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick who flashed tantalizing potential early on in his career but has become somewhat of a forgotten man in the NFL over the last couple of seasons. A torn ACL Murray suffered during the second half of 2022 has certainly changed the trajectory of his career, although he did show some promise last year when he put together his best performance since last making the Pro Bowl in 2021. More news: Pittsburgh Steelers Projected to Swing Big Move for Aaron Rodgers But has Murray demonstrated enough in recent seasons for the Cardinals to maintain a long-term commitment to him? ESPN's Dan Graziano offered some possible outcomes for Murray in 2025, and while he feels the most likely scenario is that the 28-year-old plays well enough to keep Arizona in playoff contention, he also thinks there could be an exit plan in place. Let's just say Graziano's "long shot outcome" for Murray isn't pretty. "Murray becomes a candidate to be released or traded, while one of the top QB prospects for 2026 lands in Arizona in Round 1." Murray signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals back during the summer of 2022. The deal runs through 2028, with the final year of the pact being a $34 million club option. Murray played in all 17 games last season, throwing for 3,851 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes and posting a 93.5 passer rating. Aaron Glenn: Jets won't be trading Breece Hall

When it first became clear that the new-look New York Jets will be using a three-man approach to the running back position, speculation emerged that former workhorse Breece Hall could be traded. The Jets are still trying to put that talk to an end. 'We have like three good running backs, and I keep saying that,' coach Aaron Glenn told reporters on Tuesday. 'Listen, they all have different skill sets that we're gonna utilize. And that does not mean that I'm trading Breece. OK? Does not. So, I'm gonna say that right now. I just like having three good guys. Hell, I wish I had more. But we don't.' Hall, a second-round pick from Iowa State, made a quick splash as a rookie. He had 116 rushing yards in an upset over the Packers at Lambeau Field, one week before suffering a season-ending ACL tear in the second quarter of a game in which he already had 72 rushing yards. Hall returned in 2023 to rush for 994 yards, with another 591 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns. Last year, he had 876 rushing yards, 483 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. He's listed as the starter, with Braelon Allen at No. 2 and Isaiah Davis as the third-stringer. Hall has a base salary of $3.4 million in 2025, the last year of his rookie deal. Scattered rumors have emerged of potential interest in Hall. Some have popped up recently. As the Jets tell it, he won't be going anywhere. Obviously, however, there aren't many truly untradeable players. If someone makes the Jets the right offer, it's possible that they'd accept it.

Short-handed Fever suffer another blow as Sophie Cunningham sustains season-ending injury

The injury-riddled Indiana Fever suffered another blow Tuesday when they announced guard Sophie Cunningham would miss the rest of this season with a knee injury. She was hurt during Sunday's victory at Connecticut. Team officials did not provide details about the injury, the third season-ending one Indiana has experienced in August. Guard Sydney Colson tore the ACL in her left knee on Aug. 7 in a game at Phoenix. Guard Aari McDonald broke a bone in her right foot in the same game. And two-time All-Star guard Caitlin Clark still has not played since injuring her right groin in mid-July. Coach Stephanie White has not provided a timetable for Clark's return other than to say the Fever hope that Clark returns before the regular-season finale Sept. 9 against Minnesota. With so many key players out, the outspoken Cunningham played a key role in helping Indiana stay in the playoff mix. She was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals. Indiana also announced it has signed Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract. The six-year veteran was averaging 5.0 points and 2.7 assists in six games with the Los Angeles Sparks. She also has played with Phoenix and Washington during her career. The Fever also released guard Kyra Lambert.
