3 accused of firing on BJP neta arrested after encounter in Ghazipur
The main accused and rewarded criminal, Avinash Yadav, suffered injuries in both legs. Triveni Singh and his nephew Vishwajeet alias Rajan Singh were attacked at a salon on Monday afternoon over and old enmity by the trio.
Ghazipur circle officer Saidpur, Anil Kumar, said upon receiving inputs regarding the movement of the accused, the Khanpur police launched a checking drive in the Pokhara area. Upon noticing three persons riding a motorcycle, the police signalled them to stop.
However, they sped away. Seeing this, Khanpur police alerted Saidpur police and started chasing the trio. Upon reaching the Budhipur area, the motorcycle-borne miscreants found themselves surrounded by the police and opened indiscriminate fire.
The CO added when the police retaliated, all three suffered bullet injuries in their legs. They were rushed to a local hospital. The trio was identified as Avinash Yadav of Kudhalambi, Devendra Chauhan alias Kallu Chauhan of Khanpur and Vikas alias Kariya Yadav of Jaunpur. The police recovered three countrymade firearms, live cartridges, and a motorcycle from them. The police had also placed a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on Avinash.

Nabha cop acquitted in 2017 bribery case
Mohali: After nearly nine years of legal proceedings, the court of the additional district and sessions judge acquitted additional SHO sub-inspector (SI) Shivdev Singh, posted at Nabha police station, in a bribery case registered by the Vigilance Bureau in 2017. The Vigilance Flying Squad One team from Mohali had arrested Shivdev in April 2017 on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Jujhar Nagar, Mohali. Kumar alleged that the amount was demanded in exchange for filing a favourable report to facilitate the release of his seized car. According to case records, Kumar and a friend were booked under the Arms Act by Nabha police in April 2017, and their car was impounded. About a month later, both secured bail and moved the court for the vehicle's release. The court directed the police station concerned to submit a report. Kumar alleged that when he approached Shivdev for the report, the officer demanded a bribe. Kumar claimed he refused to pay and lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Bureau, which then laid a trap and reported catching the cop red-handed with the marked currency. However, during the trial, the prosecution failed to prove that the bribe was actually taken. The court also noted in its observations that there was a prior rift between the complainant and a vigilance inspector, raising questions over the case's credibility. Man pleads guilty after 7 months in jail in drug case, but will walk free
Noida: A man arrested with 1kg of marijuana in Jan this year pleaded guilty in front of the GB Nagar additional sessions cum fast track court. He was sentenced to seven months and 13 days of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000. Having already spent the period in jail, he is soon going to walk free. Deepak Mahto, a resident of Hoshiyarpur village in Sector 49, was arrested by Sector 51 police near Hitler Park on Jan 27 with 1.14 kg of marijuana. He was booked under section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and was chargesheeted on June 2.
