Jharkhand gangster Ashish Ranjan shot dead by UP STF in Prayagraj
According to officials, the shootout occurred near Shivrajpur crossing in Shankargarh around 1:22 am when the STF intercepted Ranjan and his associate, allegedly on their way to execute a major crime in the city. Acting on intelligence inputs, the STF laid a trap after learning about Ranjan's movements, deputy superintendent of police (SP) Shailesh Pratap Singh said.
When confronted, Ranjan and his accomplice, who were on a motorcycle, opened fire using an AK-47 and a 9mm pistol. STF personnel retaliated, critically injuring Ranjan. He was taken to the Shankargarh Community Health Centre, where he died during treatment. His associate fled under the cover of darkness, the STF stated.
The police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a 9mm pistol, several rounds of live ammunition, and other materials from the spot, Singh said.
Deputy SP of STF Shailesh Pratap Singh said, originally from Dhanbad in Jharkhand, Ranjan was allegedly involved in over 15 cases of murder, extortion, looting, and contract killings. He was accused of the killings of Samir Mandal (realtor, 2019), Neeraj Tiwari (coal trader, 2021), Lala Khan (real estate trader, 2021), Ranjeet Sav (tyre dealer, 2022), and Rajkumar Sav (realtor, 2023), all in Dhanbad.
He was also linked to the Aman Singh gang and was allegedly involved in the murder of gangster Aman Singh inside Dhanbad Central Jail in 2023. Police said Ranjan had been active across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Two unidentified bike-borne miscreants fired gunshots at the house of a social media influencer (YouTuber), Simran Sikand, alias Sam, in Model Town locality on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. No one was injured in the incident. The assailants fled before a cop deployed in family's security could respond. Sikand claimed that Bhatti threatened him with a grenade attack at his house, following which the YouTuber was provided police security. He revealed that several attempts have been made on him and his family in the recent past and that he had received a threat from Pakistan-based don Shahzad Bhatti in March. 'In a video call, Bhatti had told me that I was his target,' claimed Sam. Bhatti had taken the responsibility for a grenade attack at the house of Jalandhar-based YouTuber Rozar Sandhu and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia earlier this year. Sam alleged that he had conveyed his security concerns to senior police officers many times but he was not provided proper security. 'One of the two security personnel deployed at my house is physically challenged and incapable of defending my family,' he added. An FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act has been registered at the Model Town police station, said police, and further investigation is underway. Fresh encounter begins in J&K's Kishtwar; Kulgam gunfight enters 10th day
Synopsis A new encounter began in Kishtwar, Jammu. This happened as the Kulgam encounter in Kashmir continued for the tenth day. The army launched a search in Dool, Kishtwar, after getting information about infiltrators. Infiltrators fired at the forces, leading to an exchange. An operation in Kulgam has been ongoing since August 1. IANS A fresh encounter started in Kishtwar district of Jammu on Sunday, even as the ongoing encounter in Kulgam district of southern Kashmir entered its 10th officials said they had launched a search operation in Dool area of Kishtwar following specific information on the presence of infiltrators. They said the infiltrators in the forest area opened fire at the forces which triggered an exchange which continued intermittently till evening. "Alert troops, while carrying out an intelligence-based operation, have established contact with terrorists in the early hours of 10 August 2025. Gunfire was exchanged. Operation under progress," Jammu-based White Knight Corps of the Indian Army April 12, three foreign infiltrators were killed in Chatroo area of Kishtwar and the army informed that an AK rifle, an M4 Rifle and other equipment were recovered from the spot. The officials claimed that a top JeM commander was killed in that encounter. The Army since then has engaged elite para commandos, drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs to trace the movement of infiltrators in the forest area of Akhal area of Kulgam in southern Kashmir, the ongoing operation entered its 10th day on Sunday and, till now, two Army men and two militants have been killed while nine Army men have been injured since the operation which started on August 1. This is one of the longest operations in the Kashmir Valley in recent years. The officials had informed that "one of the two terrorists killed in the encounter was a local, while the body of the other terrorist was spotted but not recovered yet."

Kadapa police arrest 6 most wanted red sanders smugglers, Rs 1 cr worth logs seized
Tirupati: Kadapa district police arrested six most wanted red sanders smugglers and seized red sanders logs worth approximately 1 cr near the Lankamalla forest area. According to Kadapa SP EG Ashok Kumar, Chapadu police arrested E Naga Dasthagiri Reddy (35), M Ramamohan Reddy (47), U Krishnaiah (53), K Srinivasulu (44), B Obul Reddy (54) and S Balagangi Reddy (44). Police recovered 52 red sanders logs weighing around one tonne and seized two cars and a bike from the possession of the accused. Naga Dasthagiri Reddy was a most wanted smuggler, accused in about 84 smuggling cases and 34 theft cases. He was even booked thrice under the Preventive Detention Act but continued to involve in smuggling activities. His wife Lalubi is also a smuggler, who is serving a jail sentence at present. Many others in his family are also involved in smuggling activities, the SP said. Police investigation revealed that Delhi-based red sanders kingpin Saleem and others used to route money through hawala network headed by Hyderabad-based Vikram Singh Solanki to Naga Dasthagiri Reddy. Police had recently arrested Vikram Solanki. Police said other smugglers nabbed by the police were also seasoned offenders involved in multiple smuggling cases.
