IANS A fresh encounter started in Kishtwar district of Jammu on Sunday, even as the ongoing encounter in Kulgam district of southern Kashmir entered its 10th day.Army officials said they had launched a search operation in Dool area of Kishtwar following specific information on the presence of infiltrators. They said the infiltrators in the forest area opened fire at the forces which triggered an exchange which continued intermittently till evening. "Alert troops, while carrying out an intelligence-based operation, have established contact with terrorists in the early hours of 10 August 2025. Gunfire was exchanged. Operation under progress," Jammu-based White Knight Corps of the Indian Army informed.On April 12, three foreign infiltrators were killed in Chatroo area of Kishtwar and the army informed that an AK rifle, an M4 Rifle and other equipment were recovered from the spot. The officials claimed that a top JeM commander was killed in that encounter. The Army since then has engaged elite para commandos, drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs to trace the movement of infiltrators in the forest area of Kishtwar.In Akhal area of Kulgam in southern Kashmir, the ongoing operation entered its 10th day on Sunday and, till now, two Army men and two militants have been killed while nine Army men have been injured since the operation which started on August 1. This is one of the longest operations in the Kashmir Valley in recent years. The officials had informed that "one of the two terrorists killed in the encounter was a local, while the body of the other terrorist was spotted but not recovered yet."

Punjab: YouTuber quizzed by central agencies over 2024 Pak visit
The central intelligence agencies questioned a Jalandhar-based travel vlogger over his alleged visits to Pakistan a few months ago. The travel vlogger had uploaded multiple videos related to his Pakistan visit on his YouTube Channel. (HT File) Amrik Singh, a resident of Turna village in Jalandhar district, was summoned by Jalandhar rural police to visit Lohian police station on Monday evening, where he was questioned for more than 20 hours. He was released on Tuesday evening. Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Naveen Singla confirmed the development and said, 'The social media influencer was questioned over his visit to Pakistan around eight months back.' Shahkot's deputy superintendent of police, Onkar Singh Brar, said 'central agencies' questioned the YouTuber, and the local police don't have any details about the questioning. 'He has been released. We have informed the village panchayat to take Amrik back from the police station,' he said. Amrik had uploaded multiple videos related to his Pakistan visit on his YouTube Channel. Amrik's wife, Manpreet Kaur, said her husband was summoned in connection with their December 2024 trip to Pakistan during which they filmed videos covering Sikh religious sites and other human interest stories, and uploaded the same on their YouTube channel. 'My husband's phone remained unreachable for nearly a day after he went to the Lohian police station to record his statement,' she said.

A federal grand jury has indicted one of Haiti's most powerful gang leaders and a US citizen accused of conspiring with him to violate US sanctions and fund gang activities in the troubled Caribbean country, the US Justice Department announced Chrizier, best known as 'Barbecue,' is a leader of a gang federation called Viv Ansanm that the US designated as a foreign terrorist organisation in lives in Haiti, and the US is offering up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction. Chris Landberg, a senior US State Department official, said Chrizier's 'reign of terror and mass violence against Haiti must end.'But Jake Johnston, author of 'Aid State' and international research director at the Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research, questioned the government's reason for offering a bounty.'This is a guy who is giving international media interviews regularly. I don't think the issue is being able to find him,' Johnston said, adding that the indictment doesn't represent a threat to Chrizier since he lives in Haiti. 'It's hard to see how it'll have much of an effect.'A POLICEMAN TURNED GANG LEADER Chrizier is a former elite police officer who was fired in December 2018 and was later accused of organizing large-scale massacres in the slums of Grand Ravine in 2017, in La Saline in 2018 and in Bel-Air in 2019. More than 100 people were killed in the massacres, which Chrizier has denied organizing.'Haiti is a hotspot right now there is incredible violence going on there,' US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Tuesday, calling La Saline killings 'notorious because (Chrizier) both planned and participated' in the June 2020, Chrizier created the ' G9 Family and Allies,' an alliance that grew from nine gangs in lower Delmas and the Cite Soleil and La Saline slums to include more than a dozen gangs, according to a U.N. 5 'Babbar Khalsa operatives' held; terror plot foiled, claims Punjab DGP
JALANDHAR: Punjab Police Tuesday claimed to have busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module by arresting two alleged operatives and detaining three juvenile suspects from Rajasthan's Tonk and Jaipur districts. This module was responsible for a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr, Punjab, on Aug 7 and the operatives were tasked with executing attacks in the run-up to Independence Day, the DGP said. "They were receiving instructions from Zeeshan and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in coordination with Rinda," said DGP Yadav, adding: "We succeeded in averting further attacks by this terror module." The arrested adults were identified as Ritik Naroliya of Jaipur's Didawata village and Sonu Kumar alias Kali of Kala Sanghian village in Punjab's Kapurthala. It was a joint operation by Jalandhar counter-intelligence (CI) and Nawanshahr police, said officers. A hand grenade, a .30 calibre pistol (a prohibited bore) and ammunition were seized from the suspects. CI-Jalandhar AIG Navjot Mahal said Sonu tried to fire at police party. "Police retaliated in self-defence, and he was injured," Mahal said. An FIR on charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy, along with Explosive Substances Act, was filed against him.
