Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the module was operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the directions of Pak-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh alias Rinda.
This module was responsible for a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr, Punjab, on Aug 7 and the operatives were tasked with executing attacks in the run-up to Independence Day, the DGP said. "They were receiving instructions from Zeeshan and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in coordination with Rinda," said DGP Yadav, adding: "We succeeded in averting further attacks by this terror module."
The arrested adults were identified as Ritik Naroliya of Jaipur's Didawata village and Sonu Kumar alias Kali of Kala Sanghian village in Punjab's Kapurthala. It was a joint operation by Jalandhar counter-intelligence (CI) and Nawanshahr police, said officers. A hand grenade, a .30 calibre pistol (a prohibited bore) and ammunition were seized from the suspects.
CI-Jalandhar AIG Navjot Mahal said Sonu tried to fire at police party. "Police retaliated in self-defence, and he was injured," Mahal said. An FIR on charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy, along with Explosive Substances Act, was filed against him.

RPF steps up security measures at major railway stations ahead of Independence Day
Security has been stepped up at major railway stations falling under the limits of Tiruchi Division ahead of Independence Day as a precautionary measure to avert any untoward incidents. Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Tiruchi Division, have stepped up surveillance round the clock and vigil in coordination with Government Railway Police and local police at the stations. The Bomb Detection Squad of the RPF has been roped in as part of the security measures. Personnel forming part of the squad are engaged in carrying out anti-sabotage checks at the railway stations. Detective dogs are being used to detect the presence of any suspicious objects on the railway premises. The jurisdiction of the RPF Tiruchi Division extends to over 10 revenue districts including Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Cuddalore and Villupuram. A senior RPF official in Tiruchi said vigil had been stepped at major stations from August 11, with field-level officers instructed to enhance security measures. Random checking of passengers and their belongings was being done by the RPF personnel. The major stations where security had intensified included Tiruchi, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur. Crowded areas such as cloak rooms, waiting halls, concourse areas and lobbies on the premises of the stations were under constant vigil. Besides platforms and other areas within stations, anti-sabotage checks were also being done by the RPF and Bomb Detection Squad personnel armed with necessary paraphernalia on railway parcels prior to being dispatched by trains. Random checks were also being conducted in some express trains upon arrival at Tiruchi railway junction. Patrolling was being done on railway premises and in its vicinity as part of the security measure. The assistance of local police had been sought in other stations in the division. The enhanced security measures would be in place till August 15, the officer added.

ED raids against Rohtas Projects for ₹248-crore 'fraud' with home buyers
NEW DELHI | LUCKNOW: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches against an Uttar Pradesh-based realty group as part of a money laundering probe against it for allegedly duping investors to the tune of Rs 248 crore, official sources said. At least eight premises in Lucknow and two in Delhi are being searched in the case against Rohtas Projects Ltd., the sources said. The action is being carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act ( PMLA ), they said. The money laundering case stems from as many as 87 FIRs filed by home/commercial space buyers since 2021 alleging they were duped and not given their properties. As per a forensic audit conducted by the UP RERA (Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority), the "proceeds of crime" in this case is Rs 248 crore, the sources said. The searches are being conducted with an aim to find evidence and the assets of the promoters for attachment as they are "absconding" since the last four years, the sources claimed. The promoters of the company have been identified as Piyush Rastogi , Paresh Rastogi and Deepak Rastogi. The promoters or their legal representatives could not be contacted immediately for a comment on the ED action against them.

9,100 police personnel to be deployed for Independence Day security arrangements in Chennai
The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) will implement five-tier security arrangements around Fort St. George, where Independence Day celebrations will held on Friday. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will hoist the national flag on the ramparts of Fort St. George. The police and other line departments conducted a rehearsal on Wednesday. A total 9,100 police personnel will be deployed for bandobust duties at the venue and its surrounding areas. The police said security had been enhanced with the deployment of additional manpower at the airport, railway stations, bus terminuses, bus stops, shopping complexes, beaches, and places of worship. Apart from this, surprise checks are being conducted at lodges and hotels across the city. The staff of these establishments have been advised to inform authorities of any suspicious persons staying at these places, a senior police officer said. Patrolling has been intensified in the city limits. Thorough vehicle inspections are being carried out at important junctions. Officers of the Security Chennai Police have been coordinating with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the Coastal Security Group to conduct anti-sabotage checks at important locations. Flying drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is prohibited for two days. Action will be taken against those found violating the ban, the city police said.
