JALANDHAR: Punjab Police Tuesday claimed to have busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module by arresting two alleged operatives and detaining three juvenile suspects from Rajasthan's Tonk and Jaipur districts. This module was responsible for a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr, Punjab, on Aug 7 and the operatives were tasked with executing attacks in the run-up to Independence Day, the DGP said. "They were receiving instructions from Zeeshan and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in coordination with Rinda," said DGP Yadav, adding: "We succeeded in averting further attacks by this terror module." The arrested adults were identified as Ritik Naroliya of Jaipur's Didawata village and Sonu Kumar alias Kali of Kala Sanghian village in Punjab's Kapurthala. It was a joint operation by Jalandhar counter-intelligence (CI) and Nawanshahr police, said officers. A hand grenade, a .30 calibre pistol (a prohibited bore) and ammunition were seized from the suspects. CI-Jalandhar AIG Navjot Mahal said Sonu tried to fire at police party. "Police retaliated in self-defence, and he was injured," Mahal said. An FIR on charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy, along with Explosive Substances Act, was filed against him.

Jalandhar: Punjab Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module with the arrest of five people, including three juveniles, from Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the module was being operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the directions of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh alias Rinda. The two adults of the five-member module have been identified as Ritik Naroliya, a resident of Didawata village in Jaipur, Rajasthan; and Sonu Kumar alias Kali, a resident of Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala. Police also seized a hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol, along with two live cartridges and two empty shells, from the accused. The DGP said the module carried out a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr on Aug 7. The DGP added the operatives were tasked with attempting such attacks in the run-up to Independence Day. "The arrested accused were receiving direct instructions from Akhtar and Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Rinda," the DGP said. "We have averted future attacks by this module." 'Accused shot at during seizure' Jalandhar counter-intelligence wing AIG Navjot Mahal said one of the accused in the module, Sonu Kumar alias Kali, was shot when he opened fire at a police team. The AIG claimed that a police team had taken Kali to a spot for seizing a weapon, but the accused picked up the weapon and fired at the team. "In self-defence, the police team retaliated, resulting in a bullet injury to him. He has been admitted to civil hospital, Nawanshahr," Mahal said. An FIR under sections 109, 324(5), and 61(2) of BNS and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at Nawanshahr City police station. The Punjab Police on Thursday foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists Harwinder Rinda and Lakhbir Landa after neutralising an improvised explosive device in Tarn Taran district. (HT) Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said teams of the anti-gangster task force (AGTF) had received credible human intelligence about a consignment containing an improvised explosive device (IED), pushed from Pakistan. AGTF, in close coordination with Tarn Taran Police, launched a combing operation in the district and recovered the IED from the area of Naushera Pannuan in Tarn Taran, before it could reach Rinda and Landa's local associates for potential use in subversive activities, he said. The DGP stated that the IED was immediately secured and safely transported to a designated location, where it was successfully neutralised in a controlled detonation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. The prompt and coordinated action of Punjab Police personnel averted a major tragedy and ensured public safety, he added. Additional director general of police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered IED was pushed into Punjab by Pakistan-backed terrorist modules, with intentions to disrupt public peace and target innocent lives in the border state. AGTF deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said an FIR had been lodged under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and Section 111 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sirhali police station in Tarn Taran. 'Further investigation is ongoing to uncover and apprehend the associates of Rinda and Landa,' he said.

Punjab police foil major terror plot, cache of arms recovered

Chandigarh: Punjab police on Wednesday said they have foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Rinda and recovered a cache of arms from a forest area in Gurdaspur. Preliminary investigation has found that the consignment was pushed into India by Pakistani agencies and Rinda as part of a premeditated plan to carry out attacks at multiple locations in Punjab, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. 'In an intelligence-led operation, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (#AGTF), Punjab successfully foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by Harwinder Rinda, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative based in #Pakistan and backed by Pakistan's ISI,' Yadav posted on X. The DGP said acting swiftly on human intelligence, AGTF teams traced and recovered a large cache of terrorist hardware, including two AK-47 rifles with 16 live cartridges, two magazines, and two P-86 (high explosive) hand grenades from a forest area in Gurdaspur, before it could reach Harwinder Rinda's associates. 'Preliminary investigation reveals the recovered consignment was pushed into India by Pakistani agencies and Harwinder @ Rinda as part of a premeditated plan to carry out attacks at multiple locations in Punjab, aiming to disrupt public peace,' he said. An FIR under the Explosives Act and the Arms Act has been registered at Purana Shala police station in Gurdaspur, he said. 'Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend Rinda's operatives involved in the recovered weapon consignment,' the DGP said.
