Dhunseri to invest ₹2,240 crore to expand plastic film capacity by 2029
At Panagarh in West Bengal, where it already operates an existing unit, Dhunseri Poly Films Private Limited—a 100 per cent subsidiary of Dhunseri Ventures—is looking to set up at least two additional lines: a BOPET (biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate) line and a BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) line. The investment for this project is estimated at ₹1,000 crore, and the lines are expected to be operational by 2029.
C K Dhanuka, chairman of the Dhunseri Group, said that the Panagarh expansion proposal would be tabled at the next board meeting for approval. The capital expenditure is expected to be funded through a debt-equity ratio of 70:30.
At Kathua in Jammu, the foundation stone for two BOPP plants was laid on 8 June. These lines are targeted for commissioning by March 2027.
With the additional lines at Panagarh and the proposed facility in Jammu, Dhunseri Poly Films' installed capacity by 2029 will reach approximately 120,000 tonnes for BOPET films and 210,000 tonnes for BOPP films. Currently, the company has an installed capacity of about 51,200 tonnes of BOPET films at Panagarh.
The group also has business interests in the downstream petrochemical and tea sectors. Dhunseri Ventures, the holding company of the group, holds a 50:50 joint venture with Indorama Group engaged in PET manufacturing in India (at Haldia and Karnal) and in Egypt.

Jupiter to set up solar cell unit in Butibori
Nagpur : The Vidarbha region is steadily emerging as a sustainable energy hub, with more companies showing interest in setting up units—particularly in Nagpur. After Avadaa and Waaree, West Bengal-based Jupiter International Limited is planning to establish a solar cell manufacturing facility in the additional Butibori industrial area. The company is looking to invest ₹15,000 crore in the sustainable energy sector, and its Nagpur unit is expected to further accelerate the region's growth. Apart from Jupiter, JSW Group and Anil Ambani-led Reliance Industries are also exploring solar panel manufacturing facilities in Nagpur, according to sources. The state industries department is already in talks with Jupiter International to set up a solar cell manufacturing unit, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed soon. If finalised, this will be the company's first plant in Maharashtra. While Avadaa Group has begun operations, Waaree Group is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony within the next fortnight. Jupiter International, meanwhile, already operates a solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing unit at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, with an overall capacity of 800 MW, including a 500 MW mono PERC solar cell facility. As per its website, the company aims to become a 10 GW vertically integrated solar power entity. In Nagpur, the company is expected to be allotted 250 acres of land by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). At the same time, the state government is in discussions with a defence manufacturer planning to invest ₹12,000 crore in a drone manufacturing facility. An MoU with the company is also expected soon, sources added. Much like renewable energy, Vidarbha is also emerging as an aviation hub. Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RAL), led by Anil Ambani, has announced plans to manufacture Falcon Jets at its joint venture facility with France's Dassault. Ammunition maker Solar Group has also proposed setting up a unit to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). "The influx of multiple industries in the region is expected to boost ancillarisation, ultimately benefiting local MSMEs," said Nitin Lonkar, president of the Butibori Manufacturers Association (BMA).

‘One of the darkest days…': Indian CEO recalls firing 25 employees in a day, reveals why he couldn't even say ‘I'm sorry'
A LinkedIn post by Mumbai-based entrepreneur Sampark Sachdeva has struck a chord online after he opened up about one of the toughest moments of his professional life, being asked to fire 25 employees in a single day. Recalling the incident, Sachdeva said the management had instructed him to remain 'cold' and detached while breaking the news. He wasn't allowed to show sympathy or even say 'I'm sorry,' since it could be seen as taking responsibility. Instead, he had to stick to a script: 'Please submit your ID card and laptop. HR will reach out for formalities. Your system's access will be disabled shortly.' What made the ordeal unbearable, he wrote, were the faces he had to look into while delivering the message. One that still haunts him is that of a single mother, seated across from him, trying to hold back tears. 'I saw the tear form at the corner of her eyes. And then, snap, it dropped.' Sachdeva clarified that he had no part in deciding who would be laid off; he was simply the one chosen to deliver the decision. But that did little to ease the weight of the task. 'Try telling that to a father of two. To someone who just took a home loan. To the girl who had moved cities for this role,' he reflected. One employee's response has stayed with him over the years. Without bitterness, the man told him: 'Sir, you had hired me. You were here, so I stayed. Today, you are asking me to go, so I will go.' Once the task was complete, Sachdeva said he rushed out of the office and broke down, away from his team. 'That day, I didn't feel like a leader. I felt like a number. A face delivering a system's decision. And yet, I carried their faces with me long after.' Now, years later, the memory still lingers. He admitted that while companies move forward and employees eventually rebuild their lives, some moments remain etched forever. 'Some days, when I sit quietly by myself, that single tear still haunts me. Because leadership is not just about making decisions. It's about learning to live with them.' His post has triggered a wave of responses from professionals, with many sharing their experiences of layoffs, on both sides of the table, and reflecting on the often unseen emotional burden that leadership carries. An individual wrote, 'I can completely understand what you are going through Sampark, I had to do that twice in two years, and it broke me completely inside but this is the dark side of corporate world. Had to explain myself that I had to just do my job without any emotional feelings but the scar still remains.' Another person commented, 'Layoffs may be a business reality, but the way they're handled leaves a lasting imprint on both sides of the table.' A third individual wrote, 'This is a moving reflection on the human side of leadership. A reminder that every decision impacts lives far beyond the office walls.'

Apple to produce all new iPhone 17 models in India for first time: Report
Apple is reportedly set to produce all four models of the iPhone 17 in India, ahead of the expected launch of the flagship smartphone in India. In a boost to India's domestic manufacturing, the tech giant is also expanding iPhone 17 production across five factories, some of which are recently opened facilities, according to a report by Bloomberg. Tata Group's plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn's production facility close to the Bengaluru airport, both of which recently became operational, will join existing units in producing the iPhone 17, as per the report. This is the first time that Apple will produce and ship all new variations of an iPhone from India from the outset. The move comes as Apple looks to navigate the Trump administration's constantly shifting tariffs landscape by shifting the vast majority of the smartphone's production for the US market to India from China. Tata's new plant joining iPhone 17 production also points to the conglomerate's potential role as a key partner of Apple. Tata Group is currently the only Indian company assembling iPhone 17s in the country, as Taiwan-based Foxconn has so far been Apple's leading contractor here. In 2023, Tata bought Wistron Corp's Apple production plant located in Karnataka. It also owns a controlling stake in Pegatron's plant just outside of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Tata-owned facilities are expected to contribute up to half of India's iPhone output over the next two years, as per the report. The value of iPhone exports from India has grown substantially. The Indian Express had earlier reported that India's share in US smartphone imports surged to nearly 36 per cent in the first five months of 2025, from about 11 per cent in 2024. China, which continues to dominate the product category, saw its share drop from 82 per cent to 49 per cent over the same period. In April, US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on a number of countries, including India. Days later, the US exempted phones, computers and other electronic products from the reciprocal tariffs. More recently, Trump slapped 50 per cent tariffs on India partly as a response to India's purchases of Russian oil. However, Apple's iPhones have so far emerged unscathed under exemptions. Earlier this month, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced a fresh commitment to invest $100 billion in the United States, with a particular focus on deepening its manufacturing base in the country.
