Lale Arikoglu: Hi, there. I'm Lale Arikoglu. Today on Women Who Travel, I'm talking to Freya Bromley, a past guest and CNT contributor. I had such a good time talking to her a few years ago about a year-long experience cold swimming across the UK, which sounds not quite for the faint of heart. I was so enamored by the idea that we've asked her back for an update on wild swimming and where it's taken her and some of her recent adventures as well as the subject of a new book she's working on. Freya, so good to see you. How have you been?
Freya Bromley: I've been well, thank you. It's nice to reflect on that chat and all the best swims I've had since then, but you've got to tell me about your best swim since that time.
LA: Oh my God, what have been my best swims? Actually, you know what? I thought of you because I did somewhat of a wild swim about a month ago in Peru, in the highest altitude lake in the world. It's winter there because it's Southern Hemisphere, and I did a cold plunge and jumped into the lake and then ran to a hot tub pretty quickly. It was quite a luxurious version of wild swimming, but it did feel beautiful and invigorating and the landscape was pretty spectacular. I'd say that might be my most memorable swim. Then I've been lucky enough to do lots of good travels that have taken me into some beautiful waters. Most recently I was in Sicily, which I feel like the Mediterranean has all those incredible rocks to jump off. I don't know. I love water. I love being in water. I think being a city kid in London, I didn't get that for a long time. Now I jump at the chance, but what have your swims been? You would've had a lot more than me.

Europe's biggest holiday home business faces debt squeeze
Europe's biggest holiday home business has been warned its finances are on an 'unsustainable' path as debt pressures mount. S&P Global said holiday giant Awaze needed to show signs that it was increasing profits or risk a credit-rating downgrade. It comes after the company's debt to earnings ratio soared to more than 13 last year, compared with 6.4 in 2023. S&P Global attributed the rise to soaring inflation, more competition and weaker-than-expected bookings for Awaze. Awaze specialises in villas in areas such as Tuscany, the Algarve and Mallorca, as well as cottages and self-catering holiday homes around the UK. It owns brands such as and Hoseasons, which was established in 1940s post-war Britain and has more than 29,000 locations in the UK. Analysts at S&P Global said UK-headquartered Awaze – which manages more than 90,000 different holiday resorts and homes across 36 countries – must start cutting costs and boost occupancy across its sites. The agency threatened to cut its credit rating if Awaze 'failed to demonstrate recovery in operating performance and credit metrics', demanding that the company show a 'trend of improving the quality of its earnings'. However, the analysts said Awaze's liquidity position currently remained 'adequate', citing its fully undrawn credit facility and sound cash balance. The warning shot comes amid signs of fierce competition in the European holiday market. Last year, hotel giants Marriott and Hyatt unveiled expansion drives across Europe to seize on the rise in demand for luxury all-inclusive trips. Companies have been increasingly seeking to cater to the growing number of Americans visiting the Continent, with official US figures showing more than 7.7 million people travelled from America to Europe between January and May this year, up 6pc on the same period a year earlier. This month, Awaze said its holiday resorts and rentals enjoyed 'record bookings over Easter on a like-for-like basis with occupancy levels up 3pc in the first half of this year'. The company said this booking momentum continued until the end of July, with expectations that this summer would be a record for the business. It said 51pc of revenue came from repeat bookings. A spokesman said: 'Our financial position is strong with more than £100m in unrestricted cash and a fully undrawn revolving credit facility. Furthermore, we have no debt maturities until May 2028. It is business as usual at our popular sites, and we look forward to welcoming customers today and in future.' Soho House & Co Inc. Signs Definitive Take-Private Agreement

LONDON, August 18, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Soho House & Co Inc. (NYSE: SHCO) ("SHCO", "Company", "we" or "our"), the global membership platform that connects a vibrant, diverse, and international group of members, today announced that it has entered into definitive agreements pursuant to which an investor group led by MCR and its Chairman and CEO Tyler Morse will acquire the outstanding shares of Soho House not held by certain significant shareholders. SHCO Executive Chairman Ron Burkle and the Yucaipa Companies LLC ("Yucaipa") will roll their controlling equity interests in the Company and retain majority control of the business. Holders of common stock of the Company will receive $9.00 per share in cash, a premium of approximately 83% over the closing stock price as of December 18, 2024, the last trading day prior to Soho House's announcement of receipt of the offer. The offer implies a total enterprise value of approximately $2.7 billion for SHCO. Transaction Details Under the terms of the agreements, MCR, the third largest hotel owner-operator in the United States, will become a shareholder of SHCO and Tyler Morse will join the Company's Board of Directors as Vice Chairman. MCR's portfolio includes iconic assets such as the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport, The High Line Hotel and the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City and the BT Tower in London. MCR's cloud-based hospitality software assets include property management system Stayntouch and hotel operations software Optii. MCR's hotels are frequently featured in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Hotels and Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards. MCR was also named one of Fast Company's 10 Most Innovative Travel Companies. Funds managed by affiliates of Apollo ("Apollo Funds") are supporting the transaction through a hybrid capital solution, by providing additional capital in the form of debt and common equity, a portion of proceeds will be used to refinance the Company's existing Senior Secured Notes. Further new equity capital will be provided by a consortium of strategic investors led by prominent technology investor Ashton Kutcher, who will also join the Company's Board of Directors following completion of the transaction.
