T-Gate initiative to enhance ITI graduate employability launched by Telangana government; targets 60% placement rate

Time of India07-07-2025
HYDERABAD: The Telangana govt has launched a new initiative, Gateway for Adapting and Training Employment (T-Gate), to enhance the employability of ITI graduates through collaboration with industry partners.
Currently, only 30% of ITI graduates in the state are employed. The state govt aims to increase this figure to 60%. The state hosts approximately 65 govt and 235 private ITIs.
Officials estimate that as many as 1.5 lakh jobs across various industries will be filled by ITI students in the state. "An expert agency is being engaged to visit industries, understand their skilled manpower requirements, and based on those insights, they will collaborate with experts to redesign courses," stated E Gangadhar, additional commissioner of the labour department.
The plan includes appointing Gate committees in all ITIs, with industry experts serving as chairpersons and principals acting as conveners. These committees will work to bridge the gap between skill development and employment through targeted interventions focusing on job readiness, industry-aligned training, and strategic placements.

Officials noted that even among the 30% of ITI graduates, nearly 60% are securing jobs in the electronics sector.
An additional 20% find employment in welding, 30% in plumbing, 40% in mechanical, 45% in electrical, 50% in IT, and 55% in the automobile sector.
However, a disconnect remains between existing training programmes and the evolving needs of the industry. There is limited awareness of ITI courses among students, as well as a lack of sufficient industry partnerships for practical training.
"There is a lack of systematic data collection and analysis for demand forecasting. Gaps in infrastructure and equipment have also been observed," officials said.

Moodbidri: Alva's Education Foundation is set to host its flagship employment event — Alva's Pragati 2025 — on Friday and Saturday at Vidyagiri, Moodbidri, with over 16,000 job vacancies and 305 recruiters participating. Now in its 15th edition, the fair is one of the largest multi-sectoral job fairs in South India, attracting job seekers from across Karnataka and neighbouring states. A total of 11,509 candidates have registered online so far, with more expected through on-site registration. The organisers have introduced an AI-based chatbot tool for the first time. Each participant will also receive a guidebook listing company profiles and vacancies. Free lodging is available for outstation candidates, while transport has been arranged for students from ITI and diploma colleges. Candidate help centres will be active throughout the venue. Radial road boost for south Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A new greenfield radial road stretching from Raviryal Interchange on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) near Amangal is poised to reshape the landscape of southern Hyderabad's development corridor. Conceived as a key connector between existing and emerging economic zones, the 41.5 km arterial road will provide a vital link to the proposed Bharat Future City, easing traffic congestion on overloaded highways and integrating remote regions into the capital's infrastructure grid. The road, designed as a partially access-controlled expressway with 3+3 lanes (expandable to 4+4 in future), aims to streamline mobility while incorporating a dedicated central median for a metro or railway corridor, green buffers, cycle tracks and pedestrian pathways. Rithwik, L&T Bag contracts Officials say the radial road alignment avoids dense urban pockets, minimising displacement and expediting construction. The Rs 4,030 crore project will be developed in two phases: Phase-1 (Raviryal to Meerkhanpet) covers 19.2 km at a construction cost of Rs 1,665 crore, with Rs 246 crore earmarked for land acquisition. Phase-2 (Meerkhanpet to Amangal) will extend 22.3 km, costing Rs 2,365 crore for construction and Rs 345 crore for land.

How jewellers quietly dodged over Rs 100 crores in taxes using FIFO-LIFO method

Indian jewellers are under scrutiny for potentially using the prohibited LIFO accounting method to underreport profits and evade taxes amidst soaring gold prices. The Income Tax department is cracking down, enforcing FIFO and weighted average cost methods, as mandated by ICDS II. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Why is this a big deal? Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads The gold price connection What experts say In the glittering world of gold, some jewellers have reportedly been playing a clever game, not with the jewellery, but with the accounting had earlier reported that the Income Tax (I-T) department found several jewellers may have switched their inventory method from FIFO (First In, First Out) to LIFO (Last In, First Out) to reduce their profits on paper and avoid paying higher taxes, especially as gold prices soared in recent FIFO, the older gold (bought at cheaper rates) is sold first. So, the remaining gold stock, now more expensive, gets recorded at a higher value. That makes the profits look bigger, and the tax bill bigger under LIFO, jewellers claim they sold the most recently bought gold first, which was more expensive. This leaves the older, cheaper stock behind in the books, lowering the value of the unsold inventory. Less value in stock means less profit on paper. Less profit means less Income Tax Act doesn't allow the LIFO method anymore. Since 2016-17, jewellers are only allowed to use FIFO or the 'weighted average cost' method under ICDS II (Income Computation and Disclosure Standards). One jewellery house, caught using LIFO, reportedly had to cough up nearly Rs 100 crore in taxes after the I-T department caught the difference in now the tax department is tightening its lens. Officials have been instructed to actively check inventory valuation methods wherever profits seem suspiciously gold prices jumping from Rs 31,000 in 2018 to nearly Rs 98,000 now, the temptation to fudge numbers seems to have grown stronger. And with central banks buying gold, global tensions, and post-COVID uncertainty driving up prices, jewellers may have seen this as an easy window to tweak their experts say this 'adjustment' doesn't create real profits, it only changes how and when profits are shown. And that's exactly what the taxmen are now Accountant Ashish Karundia told ET that while LIFO might seem like a clever workaround in a rising market, it clearly violates accounting norms under current rules. Courts too have upheld ICDS II, rejecting jewellers' pleas to allow LIFO Savla of KPB & Associates added that unless goods are unique or non-interchangeable, LIFO has no place in the jewellery trying to save a few crores may now find themselves explaining their books to tax officers. And with the I-T department now actively scanning records, the era of 'golden accounting loopholes' may soon come to an from ET Bureau
