Amid growing concerns about the future of manual transmissions, an unlikely matchup between the new 2025 BMW M3 sedan and the venerable Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R coupe has sparked renewed excitement among automotive enthusiasts.
In an era dominated by automatic transmissions and electric vehicles, three-pedal cars remain cherished by drivers seeking an engaging driving experience. The BMW M3 and Mustang Shelby GT350R both offer manual transmissions, representing two distinct yet beloved approaches to performance: refined German engineering versus raw American muscle.
To celebrate this shared passion for manual gearboxes, automotive YouTuber Sam, known from the channel "Sam CarLegion," recently arranged a drag-and-roll race showdown between the two. On paper, the contest might seem uneven: BMW's M3 packs a twin-turbocharged inline-six rated at 473 horsepower, while Ford's Shelby GT350R brings a naturally aspirated V8 boasting 526 horsepower.
The races commenced with rolling starts. At 37 mph, the Shelby Mustang narrowly edged out the BMW M3, highlighting the close competition between the two vehicles. At 49 mph, however, the GT350R's higher horsepower and larger displacement secured a clearer victory, demonstrating the timeless adage: "There's no replacement for displacement."
In the standing-start quarter-mile races, driver skill played a significant role. Despite the M3's advanced engineering and precise handling, the Mustang GT350R leveraged its power advantage and visceral performance to win decisively. The Mustang reached 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, compared to the M3's 4.3 seconds. It completed the quarter-mile in 12.2 seconds, while the M3 trailed at 12.7 seconds.
This matchup underscores why manual transmissions continue to captivate driving enthusiasts, even as manufacturers shift towards automatic and electrified drivetrains. Both cars offered exhilarating experiences, proving that for passionate drivers, the allure of a stick shift remains as strong as ever.

$80 million Cowboy cuts to chase, a 'Sharp defense' is on the way in 2025

With so many offseason changes, the Dallas Cowboys defense looks less like a finished product and more like a blacksmith's forge; sparks flying, heat rising, weapons in the making. One person not rattled by the shift? Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who says this group is in a phase where they're 'sharpening [their] swords.'In a recent, exclusive interview, the newly-minted $80 million man said fans should "expect a sharp defense' as things are already shaping up and key pieces are still on their way back. 'I like the way our defense looks right now,' he told me. 'You got some guys that are on their way back. I'm excited to see what Sam [Williams] does. I'm very, very excited to see what Sam does. We're getting [DeMarvion Overshown] back at some point during the season, so that's gonna be great.' Between bringing in defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and losing longtime tone-setter DeMarcus Lawrence, a new identity is being crafted. And Osa isn't just here for it, he's helping design it. Advertisement Odighizuwa has always been a lead-by-example guy, but when we talked, he acknowledged stepping into more of a vocal leadership role this year. Not by changing who he is, but by speaking up where it matters. 'I'm not gonna change my style,' he said. 'Just be a little more vocal, speak where I see fit. The good thing is we brought in some good guys that are a little bit older. They've got good heads on their shoulders as well and don't necessarily need someone to follow.' Among those 'good guys' are veteran additions like Solomon Thomas and Kaiir Elam, players Odighizuwa says 'pop out on tape,' put in extra work, and lead by example in their own right. And that extra work is critical this time of year. Odighizuwa made it clear that every member of the defense is held to a certain standard that it's up to them to reach by training camp. 'Especially playing for Coach Eberflus,' he emphasized, 'you gotta be in great shape. You gotta be in championship condition.' Advertisement This defense knows there's no easing into the season. Every rep is a weapon being sharpened. Every meeting, every lift, every film session, it's all preparation for battle. And Osa Odighizuwa? He's not just sharpening his sword. He's helping the whole armory gear up. To hear more from him, including thoughts on leadership, conditioning, and also some surprising anime takes, check out the full interview. Phillies Reportedly Scouting Twins Relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax

Phillies Reportedly Scouting Twins Relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no bigger need for the Philadelphia Phillies at the MLB trade deadline than a reliever. Jordan Romano has struggled, Jose Alvarado has been suspended and the rest of the bullpen has been shaky. Advertisement The Phillies are looking especially closely at the American League Central to address the need. They've been linked to Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, and more recently, the Phillies are reportedly scouting a pair of Minnesota Twins relievers. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are targeting Minnesota's Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran, and hope to land one or both of those relievers at the trade deadline. "The Philadelphia Phillies have been extensively scouting Minnesota Twins relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax," Nightengale writes, "hoping to acquire at least one of them." Either would be a nice pickup, with both relievers under team control through the 2027 season. Of the two, Duran is the most intriguing. Advertisement Duran (27) is younger than Jax (30) and has been having a better season than his teammate. Through 43 appearances, Duran has a 1.49 ERA, a 5-3 record and 15 saves. Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob ThomsonCharles LeClaire-Imagn Images Across Duran's 42.1 innings pitched, he has 47 strikeouts, 16 walks and a 1.087 WHIP, and he has yet to give up a home run. Duran also has a career-high 284 ERA+ this season, yet he isn't an All-Star. He's easily one of the top options for the Phillies at the deadline, but if he proves too expensive or challenging to land, Jax could be a nice fallback option. In 2024, Jax was one of the best relievers in the game. He had a 2.03 ERA in 71 innings pitched with 95 strikeouts and 15 walks. Advertisement This season has been a bit different. Through his 40.1 innings pitched, Jax has a 4.02 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 10 walks. Last season, he had an ERA+ of 207, but in 2025, his ERA+ is at 105, barely above league average. His struggles would seemingly make him more available than Duran, but if the Phillies could get him back to 2024 form, they'd have a strong reliever in their bullpen. Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr.

Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have continued to be linked to Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox, with the trade deadline in about two weeks. Advertisement If the Phillies want Robert, it'll likely take a decent package to land the overrated slugger, as many teams are expected to be interested in him. According to a recent report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, eight teams have checked in on the outfielder. He later added that the Phillies and New York Mets, among others, are likely potential fits. 'Eight teams have checked in on talented but struggling CF Luis Robert Jr., and if the White Sox can trade him before confronting that $20M option decision, they need to do it. 'The Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Royals and Mets look like potential fits. Some believe he'd regain form as a complementary player elsewhere,' he wrote. Advertisement Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski (left) and manager Rob Thomson (59) (right) watch bullpen sessions during spring training workouts at BayCare Ballpark. As Heyman touched on, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him figure things out on a different team. The Phillies are one of the better teams in Major League Baseball and should have an opportunity to win a World Series if things go as planned over the next few weeks and months, depending on what they do at the trade deadline. However, Dave Dombrowski has to be careful here. If the Mets land him, that obviously wouldn't be ideal, but it isn't like Robert has been some superstar player throughout the past few years, as some want to suggest. He has a 67 OPS+, 92 strikeouts, a .189 batting average, and just nine home runs in 264 at-bats this season.
