Sabah Electricity welcomes SOGT maintenance rescheduling
Published on: Thu, Jul 31, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity (SE), in a statement on Thursday, welcomed the rescheduling of maintenance works at the Petronas-owned Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) from 1 August to 5 August this year. The adjustment allows two independent power producers (IPPs) more time to switch their operations from gas to diesel fuel. This transition process requires careful planning to maintain a stable electricity supply across the state. SE expressed appreciation for the cooperation shown by all parties involved in ensuring smooth preparations. 72 Sabah dilapidated school upgrades completed

One project worth RM12.6 million is in the design stage and another worth RM54 million is at the procurement stage, bringing the total to nearly RM1 billion. During a visit to SMK Pinggan-Pinggan in Pitas, Ahmad said all works are via open tender to ensure timely or early completion. The RM27 million SMK Pinggan-Pinggan project, 78pc complete, includes two hostel blocks, warden houses, a dining hall for 400 students, and support facilities. The new hostel, to be completed in December 2025, will replace one located 1.3km away, which forces students to walk along busy roads without pedestrian paths. Ahmad said it will improve safety, reduce absenteeism, and provide better living conditions. In a Facebook post, she said the proposed new structure will split future EPF contributions into two components — a Flexible Savings account, which members can withdraw at any time, and an Income Savings account, which will be disbursed periodically until depleted. 'This is a key step towards ensuring members have a structured and reliable income during retirement,' she said. Lim stressed that the proposed changes will not affect the existing withdrawal rights of current EPF members. The new structure will apply only to new members after the implementation date, while existing members may choose to opt in voluntarily. She added that the proposal is still in its early stages and that the government is committed to gathering public feedback before proceeding. 'The Madani government will continue to listen to the people and conduct thorough engagement sessions before any implementation. The aim is clear — to help Malaysians manage their retirement savings in a more structured, fair and sustainable way,' she said.
