Pulaski County Tribe secures grant to help creative vision for arts in Winamac
The Pulaski County Tribe recently secured a $10,000 Creative Convergence Early Action Grant awarded by the Indiana Arts Commission in partnership with Ball State University's Indiana Communities Institute.
The PCT hopes the grant will be the beginning of a new experience for arts and culture in the community, and is asking the public for feedback. The PCT is inviting the community to a Creative Community Gathering from 6-8 p.m. March 20 at One Eyed Jack's Celebration Station, 102 E. Main St., Winamac.
The event will feature light refreshments, live music and an opportunity to shape what's coming next for arts and culture in Pulaski County.
'This isn't just another community meeting. It's an invitation to be part of something bigger,' said Brandi Larkin, president of Pulaski County Tribe. 'We don't have all the answers, but we know that the best ideas come from within our community. This gathering is about imagining, experimenting, and setting the stage for what could be.'
PCT encouraged all residents, artists, organizations and business owners to take part.
'Whether you're an artist, an advocate for local culture, or simply someone who believes in the power of community, your piece of the puzzle matters,' a press release from the PCT said.

New sculpture honoring Lost Creek Settlement dedicated in Deming Park
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Art Spaces is having their new sculpture honoring the Lost Creek Settlement dedicated in Deming Park on June 12. The piece, titled 'A View from the Porch,' was created by artist Reinaldo Correa Díaz. The dedication program will begin at the park at 5:15 p.m. and will include opening remarks from Art Spaces, state and local officials, the Indiana Arts Commission, Díaz, and descendants of the Lost Creek. The program will take place at the sculpture located past the stone bridge but before the large pond. The sculpture will be the 22nd in Art Spaces' collection and the fourth on what they call the Cultural Trail. The trail was established in 2008 and honors individuals, groups, and icons who have had a lasting impact on the community and beyond through works of art. The Lost Creek Settlement was formed in the early 1800s by a small group of free African Americans who came from Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina and settled into what is now Vigo County to escape racial violence and systemic oppression in the pre-Civil War South. For generations, these individuals owned and farmed their lands and established a community with churches, cemeteries, general stores, blacksmiths, and schools. They also employed their own teachers and gave them supplies when it was forbidden to educate African American students in Indiana public schools. The Gallery at Arts Illiana Announces Opening of smallART 2024 Exhibition.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Attention local artists,The Gallery at Arts has an opportunity for you to show off your talent! The Gallery at Arts Illiana will open the annual smallART exhibition Friday, November 15, 2024. The gallery will be open to the public to celebrate the opening of the exhibition from 6:30-8:30 pm on that evening. Light refreshments will be provided. Following the opening night, the gallery will be open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for viewing smallART2024. The exhibition is sponsored by the Argentum Group at Morgan Stanley. The small art exhibition is open only to artists living in Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo counties in Indiana and Edgar and Clark counties in Illinois. Artists may submit up to five pieces and the entry fee is waived. This is the 9th year of this annual exhibition. The small art exhibition is always a favorite and a great opportunity to purchase original and unique holiday gifts. The 'small' aspect of the art is the requirement that all works entered in the show must measure no more than 12' by 12' (or 12' x 12' x 12' for the 3D pieces.) All work in the exhibition is for sale.
