First phase of Mumbai's tree-lined Coastal Road promenade to open 15 July
The first phase of the planned promenade will be inaugurated a year after the coastal road's north and southbound lanes were opened last year.
Mumbai : The wait for Mumbai's seaside promenade will soon be over. The first phase of the Coastal Road promenade is all set to open to the public on 15 July, providing much-wanted relief to residents in a city starved of open spaces.
'We are happy to inform that the promenade is set to open to the public from July 15. The total length of the promenade that we are constructing is 7.5 km and the remaining section will be opened by September,' the senior BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) engineer overseeing the project said.
The width of the promenade will be around 15 metres and it will have cycling tracks and walking tracks for the public. It will be adorned by tree plantations throughout.
'This is one of the longest seaside promenades in the country once fully complete,' the official said.
Entry and exit points will be provided from Bhulabhai Desai Road near Amarson Garden and BMC's pay-and-park facility at Bhulabhai Desai Road and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction.
The official said they have planned 11 underpasses for the public to access the promenade, but only four will be opened in the first phase. The four will be located at Amarsons Garden, Mahalaxmi Temple, Bindu Madhav Chowk and Worli Dairy. The BMC also plans to have bio-toilets at these junctions.
The BMC has also planned parking places, two of which will be opened at the stretch in Worli. Each parking space will have the capacity to hold 225 cars
The total cost of the entire coastal road was Rs 13,000 crore and the civic body has spent around Rs 35 crore on the promenades.
However, heavy rainfall days still pose a challenge. A portion of the promenade's pavement and parapet wall close to the tunnels near Priyadarshani Garden was damaged last Thursday after it was hit by waves.
The intensity of the waves was so strong that some tiles and materials from the promenade got dislodged and fell on the coastal road's northbound carriageway.
'This was unusually high tides of 4.75 metres. During such times, we will have to take precautions. Otherwise, there are no issues,' the BMC official said.
Mumbai experienced the highest tide of the season on Thursday, with waves reaching up to 4.75 metres. The civic body had issued an advisory.

What Is The UAE Golden Visa The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residency permit that allows foreign nationals to live, work, or study in the Emirates, depending on eligibility. According to the UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security, the golden visa is a pathway to get long-term residency in the country without the need for a sponsor. The new nomination-based policy grants lifetime residency in the UAE - unlike the existing Golden Visa program, which typically offers residency for five to ten years. The pilot program for this nomination-based policy is currently limited to Indian and Bangladeshi nationals, with over 5,000 Indians expected to apply within three months. Regular UAE Visas For Indians The Golden visa is not the only one available for Indians. From visa on arrival to multiple entry visa to family visa, there are many options available. 1. Tourist Visa If you want to visit the UAE for leisure, you can go for the tourist visa which allows Indians to stay there for durations ranging from 14 days to 60 days. Eligible Indian nationals with a passport valid for a minimum of six months can obtain a single entry, 14‑day visa on arrival. You will have to pay a fee of about USD 63 (Rs 5405.81 approx.). A single entry tourism visa for 30 days from arrival date would cost USD 90 (Rs 7722.59 approx.), whereas a multiple entry visa for 30 days would cost USD 136 (Rs 11669.69 approx.). A single entry tourism visa for 60 days would cost USD 177 (Rs 15189.58 approx.) whereas a multiple entry tourism visa would cost USD 231 (Rs 19823.69 approx.). An extension of all these would cost you USD 230 (Rs 19737.88 approx.). The application can be submitted directly from airline websites or travel agencies. 2. Employment Visa If you want to work in the UAE, Indians need a job offer from a UAE-based employer. Once hired, the company sponsors the employment visa and handles the paperwork. The visa is typically valid for two years and is renewable. All applications go through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) or the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). 3. Residence Visa You can apply for a family residence visa if you are already working in the UAE and want to bring your spouse, children, or parents along. The sponsor must meet a minimum salary requirement and provide accommodation. The application process is the same as the residence visa. 4. Student Visa Indian students accepted into a recognised UAE university can apply for a student visa, which is usually issued for a year and is renewable. 5. Freelancer Or Remote Work Visa The UAE also offers these visas, allowing people to live in the UAE while working for companies abroad. Applicants are required to a proof of income and employment. While the Golden Visa continues to grab headlines, many Indians continue to choose regular UAE visas for work, tourism, education, or family reasons.

This marks the third delay in the airport's scheduled launch since its foundation stone was laid in November 2021 — will be completed by November this year. However, the airport was first expected to be completed by September 2024. However, the deadline was moved to April 2025, and then delayed again to May–June due to incomplete work on the terminal building. In March, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath set new targets — May 15 for starting domestic flights and June 25 for international operations. Jewar Airport's Phases Costs The Noida airport in Jewar is being built in four phases with an investment of Rs 29,650 crore. The first phase, costing Rs 10,056 crore, is designed to cater to 12 million passengers annually. It will have one runway and one terminal building. By the fourth phase, the airport is expected to become operational in 2040. The airport will have the capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually. Second Major Commercial Airport Once finished, the 1,334-hectare Noida airport will be the second major commercial airport in the National Capital Region, after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Right now, the only other functioning airport in the NCR is Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, which runs a few commercial flights under the control of the Indian Air Force.

Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project to be fully operational by 2027: Sarbananda Sonowal
Guwahati: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal said that Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, a strategic initiative to enhance connectivity between India's Northeast and Myanmar is set to be fully operational by 2027. He announced multiple initiatives by the Government to boost the waterways and maritime sector in the Northeastern region with investment of Rs 5,000 crores. Around 50,000 youth from the Northeast will be trained for maritime jobs. Sonowal while talking to media persons in Guwahati on Monday said, 'Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project is the result of India Myanmar Friendship Treaty. This is a strategic initiative to enhance connectivity between India's Northeast and Myanmar — is set to be fully operational by 2027. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Northeast stands at the heart of Bharat's development agenda. Empowered by Modi ji's transformative 'Act East' policy, this once landlocked region is now poised for direct and shorter access to international sea routes. Major initiatives include permanent cargo terminals at Pandu, Jogighopa, Dhubri, Bogibeel, Karimganj and Badarpur; year-round fairway dredging; a new approach road to Pandu Port; heritage restoration in Dibrugarh; tourist jetties worth Rs 299 crore; skill development centres at Guwahati and Dibrugarh; and plans for lighthouses at Bogibeel, Biswanath Ghat, Silghat and Pandu. The operationalization of Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR) offers new trade routes bypassing the Siliguri Corridor, strengthening regional connectivity and aligning with the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Other key initiatives include the deployment of 100 barges operated by a global major on NW2 & 16 by 2025, intended to significantly enhance cargo movement across Assam and neighbouring states. To ensure round-the-year navigability, the ministry plans to deploy 10 amphibian and cutter suction dredgers, backed by an investment of Rs 610 crore. Sonowal also announced plans to develop 85 community jetties across the Northeast to improve local connectivity. Sonowal shared that Rs 300 crore will be invested to build new tourism and cargo jetties at Silghat, Neamati, Biswanath Ghat and Guijan. In a major move toward modern urban transport, Water Metro projects are planned in Guwahati, Tezpur & Dibrugarh, with feasibility studies already completed. The government will also set up lighthouses at Pandu, Tezpur, Biswanath & Bogibeel, each equipped with IMD centres, with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change to provide accurate local weather forecasts.
