Sharjah Charity provides AED 68 million in aid to orphans in 2024

On the occasion of Arab Orphan Day, celebrated on the first Friday of April each year, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of caring for orphans as a core aspect of the association's charitable programs. He reaffirmed the organization's dedication to implementing humanitarian initiatives designed to provide a dignified life for orphans through financial, educational, and healthcare support.
Creating an integrated environment
Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi highlighted that the association goes beyond financial assistance, striving to establish an integrated environment that includes psychological and social care. This is achieved through recreational and awareness programs aimed at enhancing the orphans' integration into society and equipping them with essential skills for their future.
Developing orphan sponsorship programmes
The Chairman confirmed that the charity is continuously working to enhance its orphan sponsorship programmes to meet the growing needs of these children. Various initiatives are being implemented to improve their conditions and facilitate better access to education and healthcare.
Aid for other groups
According to the association's statistics, Sheikh Saqr noted that their efforts in 2024 extended beyond orphans. The charity provided 222 sponsorships for families at a cost of AED 1,057,500, along with 34 sponsorships for individuals with disabilities valued at AED 126,000. Additionally, 81 sponsorships for imams and teachers totaling AED 354,843, and eight student sponsorships worth AED 41,760 were also provided. Overall, the charity offered 28,912 sponsorships in the previous year, amounting to AED 69,745,128. These figures reflect the association's commitment to supporting the most needy groups and fostering social solidarity while contributing to sustainable development within the community.

This performance reaffirms Abu Dhabi's leadership in sustainable fisheries Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan said, 'This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment and the diligent efforts of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi to safeguard our natural wealth and optimise sustainable marine resource stewardship. This success affirms the importance of evidence-based policy and global best practices in conserving our natural heritage for future generations.'EAD's recent monitoring efforts also yielded notable findings that further validate the success of its marine sustainability agenda. These include the landing of 55 nuaimi fish– a species rarely sighted in recent years – as well as the first recorded presence of the white-spotted grouper in Abu Dhabi, now officially registered on the international Fish Base database. Additional sightings include rare species such as the large-scaled triggerfish and the spotted oceanic triggerfish, as well as the general presence of larger fish, indicating healthier marine has implemented a comprehensive series of internationally aligned policies for fish stock recovery. These measures include regulating commercial fishing activities through sustainable methods, as well as implementing new regulations for recreational fishing. The Agency has also established six marine reserves within the Sheikh Zayed Protected Areas Network where fishing is regulated, enhanced sustainable aquaculture and fish stocks through coral culture and artificial reefs as part of the Abu Dhabi Coral Gardens initiative.
