Young Thug performs for the first time since leaving jail, teams with Travis Scott and T.I.: Photos
On Sunday, Young Thug launched into his highly anticipated headlining set at the Summer Smash, in Bridgeview, Illinois, marking his first public concert since March 2022.
Rappers Travis Scott, Ken Carson and T.I. joined him on stage at the festival.
On May 9, 2022, the rapper was indicted and arrested. More charges were added in a subsequent indictment that August. The second indictment accused Young Thug and 27 others of conspiring to violate Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, known as RICO. The rapper was also accused of participation in criminal street gang activity, as well as drug and gun charges.
In October 2024, he pleaded guilty to gang, drug and gun charges and was released from jail, though he could be put back behind bars if he violates the terms of his sentence.
Young Thug, whose given name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, is known for his eccentric style, mumble rap and squeaky, high-pitched vocals. He shot to popularity with breakout hits including 'Stoner' and 'Best Friend." He also co-wrote the hit 'This is America' with Childish Gambino, making history when it became the first hip-hop track to win the song of the year Grammy in 2019.
Sunday's Summer Smash performance was just the beginning of Young Thug's return to the stage: He's on the bill for the Belgian festival Les Ardentes and Switzerland's Openair Frauenfeld, both scheduled for next month. He's also scheduled for ComplexCon in Las Vegas in October.

Authorities charge man suspected of planning attack in Germany, possibly targeting Israeli Embassy
BERLIN (AP) — German prosecutors announced terrorism charges Wednesday against a man who they say may have planned to attack the Israeli Embassy in Berlin and intended to join the Islamic State group in Pakistan. The suspect, a Russian national identified only as Akhmad E. in line with German privacy rules, was arrested on Feb. 20 at the capital's airport as he prepared to board a flight. He has now been indicted on charges of supporting a foreign terrorist organization, attempted membership in such a group, and preparing a serious act of violence. Federal prosecutors said in a statement that the suspect initially planned to carry out an attack in Germany, possibly on the Israeli Embassy. He allegedly found instructions for making explosives on the internet but was unable to pursue the plan because he couldn't get a hold of the necessary components. At the same time, the suspect was allegedly translating propaganda into Russian and Chechen for IS. Prosecutors said he intended to join the group in Pakistan and get military training, and that he financed the trip by taking out two contracts for expensive smartphones, which he then sold. He allegedly sent a video declaring loyalty to the group to a suspected IS member outside of Germany shortly before his departure. The indictment was filed earlier this month to a court in Berlin, which will now have to decide whether to send the case to trial.

Eurovision, the world's largest live music event, to take place in Vienna next year
VIENNA (AP) — The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will take place in Vienna. Austria's public broadcaster ORF, which will organize the world's largest live music event, announced the location Wednesday morning. Following Austrian singer JJ's victory with 'Wasted Love' in Basel this spring, the music competition will be held in May 2026 at the Wiener Stadthalle. 'After thorough examination and based on a unanimous jury assessment, ORF has concluded that Vienna's bid is the most attractive not only in terms of infrastructure and logistics, but also economically," ORF Director General Roland Weißmann said. Innsbruck also applied to host the event. It will be Vienna's third time as host, following 1967 and 2015. 'As mayor of Vienna, I am naturally delighted that Vienna has prevailed and will once again represent Austria next year. I am convinced that we will have a wonderful May together,' Mayor Michael Ludwig wrote on X. Eurovision's finale will take place May 16 after the semi-finals are held May 12 and 14, 2026. JJ, whose winning song combined operatic, multi-octave vocals with a techno twist, and who also sings at the Vienna State Opera, won the contest in May. JJ, whose full name is Johannes Pietsch, was Austria's third Eurovision winner, after Conchita Wurst in 2014 and Udo Jürgens in 1966. The song contest is always held in the country whose singer won the competition. The last Eurovision song contest, which has been uniting and dividing Europeans since 1956, was watched by 160 million viewers.

Registered rifle and shotgun owners may no longer face felony charges for carrying their weapons in Washington, DC due to concerns the district's restrictive gun laws run afoul of Supreme Court rulings, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro explained Tuesday. The policy shift, first reported by the Washington Post, comes after Pirro said she received guidance from the Justice Department and solicitor general determining that DC's prohibitions on registered, but non-permitted, rifle and shotgun owners violate the Second Amendment. The DC law 'is clearly a violation of the Supreme Court's holdings,' Pirro told the Washington Post, confirming the Trump administration's memo.
