Khamzat Chimaev is the new UFC middleweight champion. The unbeaten star dominated and dethroned Dricus Du Plessis in the UFC 319 main event Saturday. It was a performance that disappointed some, and impressed others, given the lack of damage in the fight and wrestle-heavy approach from Chimaev. What's next for Chimaev? How long can he stay champion? Where does Du Plessis go from here? We analyze the UFC 319 main event.
Outside the headlining act at UFC 319, there were some big results. Lerone Murphy and Carlos Prates scored Knockout of the Year contenders with spinning elbows, putting the lights out for Aaron Pico and Geoff Neal, respectively. Additionally, Michael Page beat Jared Cannonier, picking up another win at 185 pounds. We discuss what's next for the winners and losers of these key results.
2025 PFL tournament finals continued with Alfie Davis, Liz Carmouche and Marcirley Alves winning titles. Davis outpointed heavy favorite Gadzhi Rabadanov in a close bout. Carmouched viciously knocked out Jena Bishop. We react to these two championship wins. Plus, the PFL returns Thursday with the middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight finals.
The UFC is also in business this weekend. The promotion hosts a Fight Night event in Shanghai headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Johnny Walker and Zhang Mingyang. Additionally, this card features Brian Ortega vs. Aljamain Sterling and Sergei Pavlovich vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta. We break down and preview the main fights from the card.

Alexandr Romanov: 'It's bullsh*t' UFC cuts ranked heavyweights
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Alexandr Romanov hasn't always, but right now he feels appreciated. Two fights into his PFL tenure, Romanov (19-3) said he's mentally and physically in the best shape he's ever been. He attributes that, at least partially, toward what he feels is a clear promotional direction. "You know form my perspective, there's more opportunities here in PFL, I feel," Romanov told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a pre-fight news conference Tuesday. "UFC never gave me enough fights. They don't keep (us) busy at heavyweight and I don't understand why. Usually, when I just started fighting professional MMA, I was very active. I was fighting four or five times a year. As soon as I signed the contract with the UFC, I started just fighting twice a year. It's a little bit holding you back. Because for a professional athlete, it's the most important moment to be active. You have to know and see the goal in front of you – what you're training for." PFL has breathed new life into Romanov's career after a somewhat unexpected UFC departure. Romanov competed 10 times in the UFC from 2020 to 2024 and went 7-3. When his second UFC contract ended, however, the promotion declined to re-sign him. This, despite Romanov winning his final UFC bout. "I didn't know what's going on now with these guys, what's in their heads. I think heavyweight is really what you can call a king division. If you cut guys who are on a winning streak, maybe something is wrong with them. I can't comment in this moment. But I think these guys who were cut after a win is a big mistake." "... I don't know if the respect the heavyweights or not. It's better to give this question to them, personally. I think to cut the guys on a win streak... sorry, it's bullsh*t." Romanov, 34, fights Oleg Popov (21-2) on Thursday at 2025 PFL World Tournament 10 in the promotion's heavyweight tournament final. Should he win, Romanov will move to 2-0 with one no contest in three appearances. "My hand will be raised up," Romanov said.

White House rips ex-White Stripes singer for slamming Trump Oval Office redecorating as 'gaudy'
The White House slammed former White Stripes frontman Jack White after he insulted President Donald Trump's new Oval Office décor on Monday. White House communications director Steven Cheung ripped the "Seven Nation Army" singer for calling Trump's new gold-accented office "gaudy" and "vulgar," stating that the musician is "washed-up" and a "has-been." "Jack White is a washed-up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career," Cheung said in a statement to The Daily Beast. He continued, "It's apparent he's been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of 'The People's House.'" Cheung's statement followed White's Instagram post on Monday night that featured an image of Trump's Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when they discussed finding peace in the Russia-Ukraine war. However, the musician focused on attacking the gold decor adorning the office's fireplace that was visible behind the two world leaders. "Look at how disgusting trump has transformed the historic White House. It's now a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler's dressing room," White began. "Can't wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he's almost fully achieved the movie 'Idiocracy,'" he added, mentioning Trump's ambitions to host a UFC fight in front of the White House next year as part of America's 250th birthday celebrations. Since the start of his second term, President Trump has updated the look of the presidential office, adding gold adornments throughout the room, as well as framing a copy of the Declaration of Independence on a wall near the Resolute Desk. Trump is also planning on adding a ballroom to the White House that will reportedly cost $200 million to build. The rocker continued slamming Trump's renovations. "Look at his disgusting taste, would you even buy a used car from this conman, let alone give him the nuclear codes? A gold plated trump bible would look perfect up on that mantle with a pair of trump shoes on either side wouldn't it? What an embarrassment to American history." White added praise for Zelenskyy at Trump's expense, stating, "Also pictured in this photograph, a REAL leader of a nation in a black suit." White has feuded with the president in the past. His former band, "The White Stripes," sued the Trump campaign in 2024 for using the riff from "Seven Nation Army" in intro videos during campaign rallies. White also called out celebrities who appeared friendly with Trump at a UFC fight in 2023. "Anybody who 'normalizes' or treats this disgusting fascist, racist, con man, disgusting piece of s—t Trump with any level of respect is ALSO disgusting in my book. That's you Joe Rogan, you Mel Gibson, you Mark Wahlberg, you Guy Fieri. This is a statement from me, not a discussion/debate. - Jack White III," he wrote on Instagram at the time.

The rocker who opened a bespoke upholstery shop in Detroit in the mid 1990s before launching his music career — and who has long had a keen eye for visual aesthetics — went scorched earth on Donald Trump's gold-plated makeover of the People's House in a no-holds-barred Instagram post on Tuesday (Aug. 19). 'Look at how disgusting trump has transformed the historic White House. It's now a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler's dressing room,' White said of the makeover Trump has rolled out for the White House, which includes all-gold-everything in the Oval Office. 'Can't wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he's almost fully achieved the movie Idiocracy,' White added in reference to Trump's plans to hold a ultimate fighting match on the White House grounds next year and the beloved 2006 Mike Judge movie satire of a world in which anti-intellectual, lowest-common-denominator dolts inherit the Earth. The post featured a photo of Trump meeting with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy this week in the dizzyingly filigreed Oval Office. In keeping with the wrestling metaphor, White House communications director Steven Cheung attempted his own smack down of the 12-time Grammy-winning rocker who is slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the White Stripes in November. 'Jack White is a washed-up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career,' Cheung told The Daily Beast. In May, photo editor and creative consultant Emily Keegin wrote an essay in The New York Times entitled 'Trump's Oval Office is a Gilded Rococo Nightmare. Help,' in which she noted that in 2017 journalist Peter York referred to Trump's shiny aesthetic as 'dictator chic,' likening the former reality TV star's New York penthouse style to that of late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's opulent, garish mansions. In the commentary, Keegin described the 14K White House redesign as, 'a parade of golden objects that march across the mantel, relegating the traditional Swedish ivy to a greenhouse. Gilded Rococo wall appliqués, nearly identical to the ones at Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, are stuck to the fireplace and office walls with the same level of aesthetic consideration a child gives her doll's face before covering it in nail polish.'
