Adnoc L&S first quarter revenue increases 41%, Ebitda up 20%

Khaleej Times20-05-2025
Adnoc Logistics and Services, a global energy maritime logistics company, on Monday announced a 41 per cent rise in first quarter revenues to $1.181 billion (Dh4.339 billion).
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) rose by 20 per cent to $344 million (Dh1.262 billion) in the same period, driven by robust performance across all business segments, sustaining the Ebitda margin at 29 per cent.
Net profit for Q1 2025 was $185 million (Dh678 million), down five per cent compared to Q1 2024, mainly due to lower commercial shipping rates, but up three per cent compared to the previous quarter. 'Despite evolving market conditions, Adnoc L&S' strategic diversification and resilient business model supports delivery of strong net profit and operating cash flow,' the company said in a statement.
Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of Adnoc L&S, said: 'Adnoc L&S continues to deliver robust financial results and significant business growth. Our recent acquisition of 80 per cent of Navig8, and the integration of their capabilities into our expansive services portfolio, further strengthens our customer offerings and international footprint, unlocking new shareholder value. Moving forward, we will continue to deliver on our transformational growth strategy while leveraging cutting-edge technologies and AI solutions to further enhance operational efficiencies.'
Revenues from the integrated logistics segment increased to $628 million (Dh2.307 billion), up 23 per cent compared to Q1 2024. The increase was largely driven by higher revenues from engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects including the Al Omairah Island and Hail & Ghasha projects, and improved utilisation and rates earned from Jack-Up Barges (JUBs). Integrated logistics' Ebitda rose by 15 per cent to $182 million (Dh669 million) compared to Q1 2024.
Revenues from the shipping segment increased 87 per cent to $469 million (Dh1,722 million), compared to Q1 2024, driven primarily by the consolidation of revenue from the Navig8 tanker fleet. Shipping Ebitda increased 26 per cent to $143 million (Dh527 million) compared to the same period last year, generating a robust Ebitda margin of 31 per cent.
Revenues from the services segment increased 9 per cent to $84 million (Dh310 million) compared to Q1 2024. Ebitda from the segment grew 52 per cent year-on-year to $18 million (Dh66 million), mainly driven by higher Borouge Container Terminal volumes and shares of profit from Integr8.
Adnoc L&S continues to secure its future earnings. The Company has added 340 years of newly contracted revenues against its recent order of energy-efficient vessels, including $2.95 billion (Dh10.8billion) invested into eight new Liquified Natural Gas Carriers, nine Very Large Ethane Carriers, and four Very Large Ammonia Carriers.
The company maintained its Ebitda and net income guidance for 2025, with continued strength and growth in integrated logistics business returns helping to offset weaker than anticipated shipping results in Q1 due to weaker shipping market rates, with an improving outlook for rates.
Adnoc L&S anticipates an additional $3 billion+ of value-accretive organic investment spend by 2029, beyond the projects already announced and incorporated in guidance, applying the same investment return criteria.
The company's dividend policy remains unchanged with a projected total dividend payable for 2025 of $287 million (a 5 per cent increase from 2024 annualised dividend), in line with the stated progressive dividend policy and subject to relevant approvals.
The company targets a 2.0-2.5x net debt / Ebitda ratio over the medium term, with the recently committed hybrid capital instrument, debt, and free cash flows after dividends, the primary funding sources for committed and anticipated growth investment.

S&P Dow Jones in talks to bring tokenized indexes to exchanges, DeFi: Exec

S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) is in discussions with major exchanges, custodians and DeFi protocols to license and list tokenized versions of its benchmarks, according to Stephanie Rowton, the firm's director of US equities. Rowton told Cointelegraph that the index provider is taking a 'strategic approach' to ensure tokenized S&P products are launched only on platforms that meet high standards for transparency, security and regulatory compliance. 'By establishing these types of relationships, we hope we can work together to participate in a robust infrastructure that supports the trading and accessibility of tokenized versions of our indexes, ultimately enhancing the investor experience,' she said. The push into blockchain comes as institutional interest in tokenized financial products accelerates. S&P DJI entered the space earlier this year by licensing the S&P 500 for a tokenization initiative with Centrifuge, which uses official data to offer programmable index-tracking funds via smart contracts. Rowton said the move has already generated 'an uptick in curiosity and engagement' from both traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) market participants. 'This interest reflects a broader market trend as investors increasingly seek innovative and efficient ways to interact with established financial products,' she added. Bridging TradFi and DeFi Rowton said the blockchain technology has a 'transformative potential' in the financial markets. 'As demand for digital assets grows, tokenization could play a crucial role in bridging the gap between traditional finance and decentralized finance,' Rowton noted. She added that the S&P DJI's tokenization strategy aligns with the firm's mission to meet the needs of 'a new generation of investors who are looking for innovative ways to engage with established benchmarks.' Interest in tokenized index products is strongest among digitally native investors, including crypto and blockchain participants, as well as institutions seeking to diversify portfolios. Regionally, Europe, Asia and LatAm lead the charge. Rowton also revealed that the company is evaluating opportunities to tokenize other flagship benchmarks such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and thematic indexes. 'We recognize that different investor segments may have varying interests in specific indexes, and we will aim to respond to market demand accordingly,' she said. 2030 vision for tokenized indexes Rowton said tokenized indexes would be 'pivotal' in global markets by 2030, enhancing cross-border market access and liquidity. The technology could lower traditional investment barriers, while enabling new strategies that leverage DeFi features like fractional ownership and automated trading. However, she pushed back on the notion that tokenization threatens S&P DJI's traditional licensing business. Instead, she described it as 'a complementary innovation' that expands commercial opportunities and opens index investing to new audiences without compromising the integrity of the benchmarks. Rowton's comments come as tokenized stocks continue to gain momentum, with market capitalization for blockchain-based financial products hitting $370 million by the end of July. Last week, OpenEden partnered with BNY Mellon to manage and custody the assets behind its tokenized US Treasury product, TBILL, the first Moody's 'A'-rated tokenized Treasury fund to use a global custodian. India's Modi cuts taxes, pushes self-reliance amid Trump tariff tensions

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the country on Friday to move towards more self-reliance, manufacture everything from fertilisers to jet engines and EV batteries, and vowed to protect farmers in the face of a trade conflict with Washington. With the punishing tariffs imposed on Indian exports by US President Donald Trump expected to hurt growth in the world's fastest growing major economy, Modi announced lower goods and services taxes (GST) from October - a move that could help boost consumption. He also announced India would set up a new defence system called 'Sudarshan Chakra' in the aftermath of India's four-day military conflict with Pakistan in May. He did not elaborate but a government statement said the system is aimed at neutralising enemy infiltrations and enhancing India's offensive capabilities. Indian defence and policy circles have informally referred to the Russian S-400 air defence system - which played a key role during the fighting with Pakistan - as Sudarshan Chakra, after a Hindu mythological weapon. Modi was addressing the nation on the occasion of its Independence Day at a time New Delhi has been struggling with Trump's tariffs and the collapse of trade talks, largely due to differences over imports of American farm and dairy products. "Farmers, fishermen, cattle rearers are our top priorities," Modi said in his customary annual address from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi. "Modi will stand like a wall against any policy that threatens their interests. India will never compromise when it comes to protecting the interests of our farmers," he said. Modi did not mention the tariffs or the US in his speech that lasted nearly two hours. Last week, Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi's continued imports of Russian oil in a move that sharply escalated tensions between the two nations. The new import tax will raise duties on some Indian exports to as high as 50 per cent - among the highest levied on any US trading partner. Modi has never spoken about the tariffs directly, only alluding to them in a speech last week, where he swore to protect the interests of farmers, even if it came at a personal price. Farmers are a key political constituency in India and they violently protested against Modi's last big push to reform the sector, forcing him to repeal three farm laws in 2021 in what was a rare defeat for him. TAX CUTS TO BOOST CONSUMPTION Although local manufacturing and self-reliance have been Modi's key focus areas for years now, the push is seen to have gained urgency amid ongoing global trade tensions and supply chain disruptions. "The need of the hour is to take a resolve for building a strong India... I want our traders, shopkeepers to display boards for 'Swadeshi' products," Modi said, using the Hindi word for made in India goods. He said made in India semiconductor chips would hit the market by the end of this year and that India was pushing for self-reliance in producing critical minerals with exploration underway at more than 1,200 locations. Trump's tariffs threaten to disrupt India's access to its largest export market, where shipments totalled nearly $87 billion in 2024, hitting sectors like textiles, footwear, shrimp, gems and jewellery. In retaliation, some supporters of Modi have sought to stoke anti-American sentiment and called for a boycott of US companies such as McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Amazon and Apple. Trade talks between New Delhi and Washington collapsed after five rounds of negotiations over disagreement on opening India's vast farm and dairy sectors and stopping Russian oil purchases. Modi's promise to cut GST by October's Diwali festival, which encompasses one of India's biggest shopping seasons, follows previous commitments to overhaul it by reducing the number of rate brackets under the 2017 tax regime. A group of ministers have been preparing a report that will consider merging tax slabs and lowering rates on some products. In February, India cut personal income tax for some individuals to boost spending. Earlier this month, the central bank kept interest rates steady, following a 100 basis point cut this year so far. The government has proposed to the ministers' panel that it recommend reducing taxes on mass use items as well as on goods used by women, students and farmers to boost consumption and enhance affordability, the finance ministry said in an X post. The government will move towards making GST a simple tax with two rate slabs, one standard and another merit, it said. Special rates will be applicable only for a few select items.
