The typical murder mystery that crime thriller fans know and love typically sees a temperamental detective lead a team of officers on a murder case, from their base at police headquarters. Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club is anything but, yet promises to be a fan-favourite upon its release on August 22.
The film, which is based on the best-selling book by Richard Osman, follows a group of friends living in Cooper Chase Retirement Village, as they meet every Thursday to solve a mixture of cold cases in their local area. Suddenly, the group are thrust into the heart of a real case, and will stop at nothing to solve the crime, even if it means making enemies along the way.
Filled with a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Ben Kingsley and more, we break down the roles of the main cast members, and the parts they'll play in solving the cases.
Who is Elizabeth Best? As the head of the Thursday Murder Club, Elizabeth leaves no stone unturned, thanks to her sharp eye for investigating cold cases. She's often at the forefront of the mysteries, rallying the group together and even coming face to face with dangerous suspects.

Who is Ron Ritchie? Ron Ritchie is a strong-willed former union activist who is a member of the Thursday Murder club. While he may appear blunt, he works well alongside the other members of the group and is extremely loyal.

Who is Joyce Meadowcroft? Previously a nurse, Joyce is the club's newest member. Although her kind demeanour may initially fool you, she's just as sharp and strong-willed as the other members.

Who is Ian Ventham? He is the assertive and rather villainous owner of the retirement village, who clearly cares little for the residents. In the trailer Ian can be heard saying that he's, 'not worried about the cantankerous old farts', which points to him being a potential ally to the club's opposers.
What else has David Tennant starred in? He is best known for starring Dr Who, Broadchurch and Jessica Jones.
Who is DCI Chris Hudson? He is the detective chief inspector on the case, and PC Donna De Freitas' (see below) boss. As the Thursday Murder Club digs further into the cases, DCI Chris Hudson's frustration against the group begins to deepen. In the trailer, he can be seen yelling, 'police work is off-limits to anyone who isn't the police!' to the members.

Who is Bogdan? He is a young man of Polish descent who supports the club in their key investigations. While not much is known about his role, his alliance with the group may serve them well in their time of need.
