Operation Sindoor Ends Balakot Doubts With 80-Hour IAF Blow To Pakistan: Air Chief Marshal Reveals
Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh says Operation Sindoor finally 'laid to rest the ghost of Balakot.' Speaking at the LM Katre Memorial Lecture, he revealed how the IAF learned from the 2019 Balakot strike, when India struggled to publicly prove the damage inflicted. This time, against Pakistan, there was no ambiguity. In just 80-90 hours, the IAF crippled Pakistan's air power, shooting down five fighters and a massive AWACS aircraft, and destroying key terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, including the prized Sargodha airbase. Singh credited the success to full political backing, no operational restrictions, and perfect tri-services coordination under the CDS. Using S-400 missiles and precision air raids, India eliminated over 100 terrorists in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.#balakot #opsindoor #iaf #indianairforce #apsingh #indiapakistan #s400 #airdefence #pahalgamattack #defencenews #counterterror #pakistanairforce #indianarmy #airpower #indiadefense #nationalsecurity #surgicalstrike #breakingnews #militarynews #cds #sargodha #breakingnews #trending #trendingnow #toi #bharat #toibharat #indianews

Gallantry medals for Operation Sindoor to be announced on Independence Day

Gallantry awards will be announced for defence personnel honoured for their exceptional courage during Operation Sindoor on Independence Day, a senior Defence official said. Operation Sindoor's success will be celebrated at the Independence Day celebrations this year, including its logo on the view cutter at Gyanpath, and themed floral decorations. Defence personnel selected for the awards will be seated at the Red Fort rampart, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his address to the nation. The PM's address to the nation is expected to highlight the success of Operation Sindoor and the contributions of defence personnel. The celebrations will commemorate 'the continuing rise of a prosperous, secure and bold 'Naya Bharat'', the theme of this year's festivities, 'as the nation is making giant strides towards realising the government's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047', the MoD stated, adding the celebration will 'provide renewed power to surge further ahead on the path to progress'.. The Indian Air Force will stage a special flypast over the Red Fort, with three helicopters flying in formation carrying the National Flag as well as the Operation Sindoor flag. As in previous years, the aircraft will shower flower petals over the public. Invitations to the event also feature Operation Sindoor on the top right corner, with a sketch of the Chenab railway bridge in the middle replacing the image of the Central Vista previously embossed on the cards. Recently inaugurated by Mr. Modi, the bridge connects the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the country by rail for the first time.

Maharashtra chief minister says govt will take steps to increase number of loudspeaker days for Ganeshotsav

Mumbai: The state govt will take steps to increase the number of days when loudspeakers can be used during the Ganesh festival, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured Ganesh mandals. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said the move would be within the limits set by the courts. Fadnavis exhorted Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals to create awareness about India's strength showcased to the world through Operation Sindoor and promote the use of indigenous products. This was discussed at a meeting held at the Sahyadri guest house on Wednesday to review the law and order preparedness for the ten-day state festival. Fadnavis directed that idol makers must be granted five-year permissions, which the artisans must renew every year through the single-window system introduced by the municipal corporation to process these applications. He instructed civic officials to increase the number of artificial ponds for idol immersions and the number of boats to ferry tall idols to the deep sea for immersion. "All concessions given to Ganesh festival committees will be continued this year as well," he said, urging mandals to follow the law while celebrating the festival. He pointed out that Eid-e-Milad also falls during the Ganesh festival period, and care should be taken to maintain religious harmony. In another important decision, Ganesh festival committees who submit a written statement to the administration that their offices are not used for commercial purposes will not have property tax levied on such offices. The meeting was attended by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, Mumbai suburban guardian minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Iqbal Singh Chahal, additional chief secretary (home), Rashmi Shukla, state director general of police, Deven Bharati, Mumbai police commissioner, BMC municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, principal secretary (Special) Anup Kumar Singh, and Ganesh Dahibavar, president, Sarvajanik Ganesh Festival Coordination Committee. Commissioners of various municipal corporations attended the meeting through video conference.

‘Don't think US tariffs will…': S&P confident Donald Trump's tariffs won't impact India's growth; here's why

S&P projects India's GDP growth to remain steady at 6.5% in the ongoing fiscal year. (AI image) The Donald Trump administration's move to impose a total of 50% tariffs (25% base tariff + 25% additional tariff for India's crude oil trade with Russia) are unlikely to have any significant impact on the Indian economy, believes S&P Global Ratings. In fact, S&P has even said that the US tariffs pose no threat to the positive sovereign outlook for India. S&P had enhanced its outlook on India's 'BBB-' sovereign rating to positive in May 2022, attributing it to strong economic performance. Trump declared on August 6 that all Indian imports would face an additional 25% tariff, supplementing the existing 25% duty, resulting in a total tariff of 50% effective from August 27. The White House attributed this decision to India's ongoing procurement of Russian oil. According to a PTI report, when questioned about potential risks to India's positive outlook due to US tariffs, YeeFarn explained that India's economy would remain stable, noting that its export exposure to the US represents merely 2% of GDP, indicating minimal trade dependence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Victoria Principal Is Almost 75, See Her Now Boite A Scoop Undo "I don't think the tariffs imposed on India will have an impact in terms of economic growth, largely because India is not a very trade-oriented economy. And if you look at India's exposure to the US in terms of exports to GDP, it is just about 2%,' YeeFarn Phua was quoted as saying. S&P projects India's GDP growth to remain steady at 6.5% in the ongoing fiscal year, matching the previous financial year's performance. YeeFarn noted that significant export sectors to the US, including pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics, remain unaffected by Trump's tariff moves. Explained "Over the longer term, we don't think this (higher tariffs) will be a big hit (on India's economy), and therefore, the positive outlook on India remains," YeeFarn said at a Webinar on Asia-Pacific Sovereign Ratings. Addressing concerns about US tariffs affecting investment flows into India, he explained that businesses have implemented the 'China plus one' strategy in recent years, establishing operations in India primarily to serve the local market. "Many (businesses) are going there not because they are looking to export just to the US. Many of them are going there because of the huge domestic market as well. An emerging middle class is getting even for those who are looking to invest more in India and looking to export, it might not necessarily be the US market," YeeFarn said. India-US trade facts In 2021-25, the United States emerged as India's leading trading partner. The US contributed approximately 18% to India's overall goods exports, whilst accounting for 6.22% of imports and 10.73% of bilateral trade. India maintained a favourable trade balance with the United States, recording a surplus of $35.32 billion in goods during 2023-24. This figure increased to $41 billion in 2024-25. The bilateral trade between India and the United States totalled $186 billion in 2024-25. During this period, India's exports to the US amounted to $86.5 billion, whilst imports were valued at $45.3 billion. The ongoing trade negotiations between India and the US have hit a bump over the former's clear stance of not opening its agricultural and dairy sectors to American products. Additionally, Trump's desire to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict has led to India feeling the heat of 25% additional tariffs for its crude oil imports as a pressure tactic on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
