Veteran Newsman Yong dedicates HAWANA 2025 Award To Journalism Fraternity
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- HAWANA 2025 Award recipient Datuk Yong Soo Heong has dedicated the recognition to all those involved in journalism.
Yong, who is also Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) president, said the award is a collective honour for all those who have guided and supported him throughout his career in the nation's media industry, rather than a recognition of his contribution alone.
The former editor-in-chief and general manager of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) also expressed hope that the national news agency would continue to uphold the highest standards and become a respected institution not only within Malaysia but globally.
'Bernama must be a respected news organisation, and its personnel must be more dynamic because ultimately, the staff are the backbone of the organisation.
'They need to work even harder to elevate Bernama's reputation. The production of credible and well-crafted stories is vital. We need to learn how to tell compelling stories to attract readers, viewers and listeners. That is what matters,' he said after receiving the award at the HAWANA 2025 highlight celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today.
The veteran newsman received the award from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, witnessed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the campaign will be implemented in phases, focusing on promoting online safety through educational outreach to students. Advertisement 'Sekolah Menengah Holy Trinity in Tawau is the first secondary school in the district to implement KIS, using a specially designed module for students aged 13 to 17, involving 290 participants. 'The objective of the module is to raise awareness among students about Internet safety, including the risks involved, their responsibilities to themselves and other users, as well as the long-term impact of Internet use,' she said in a statement, Friday. Teo, who is currently on a working visit to Sabah, attended the KIS programme at Sekolah Menengah Holy Trinity. She expressed hope that through the module, students will be able to distinguish between genuine and false information online by identifying the characteristics of facts versus misinformation, as well as assess the risks of openly sharing personal information. 'Students are also expected to recognise signs of online grooming and be better prepared with self-protection strategies,' she added. Credit: Agence Kampuchea Presse By Vijian Paramasivam PHNOM PENH, June 15 (Bernama) -- Cambodia officially submitted a request to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Sunday to seek a resolution to the ongoing border dispute with Thailand. Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the decision was to safeguard Cambodia's territorial integrity and for the best interest of the nation and Cambodians. bootstrap slideshow 'Cambodia only seeks justice, accuracy and clarity in the demarcation of its borders with neighbouring countries, so that future generations will not face ongoing disputes,' Manet said in a Facebook posting this morning. The dispute related to the Ta Moan Thom, Ta Moan Tauch, Ta Krabei temples, and the Mom Bei (Emerald Triangle) will be referred to the ICJ. He said that, coincidentally – 63 years ago – June 15, 1962, was a historic day when the ICJ had ruled in favour of Cambodia in the Preah Vihear Temple case. 'Although these two events happened 63 years apart, the spirit and objective remain the same,' said Manet. This is the third time Cambodia has sought the intervention of the ICJ, in 1962 and 2013, over the territory surrounding the Preah Vihear Temple. On both occasions, the United Nations court ruled in favour of Cambodia.
