Besides Australia's Adam Gilchrist, he was among the first wicketkeeper-batters who showed the world that keepers could bat really well. At a time when the bare minimum of catching and stumping was required out of a wicketkeeper, Dhoni pushed the envelope further, contributing runs with the consistency and hunger of a top-order batting giant. He formed a formidable middle-order with Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina.
Dhoni's strongest format is the ODIs. In 350 ODIs, he scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. He scored 10 centuries and 73 fifties for India, with the best score of 183*. He is India's sixth-highest scorer in ODIs (with Sachin Tendulkar at the top with 18,426 runs). The fact that he managed to score 10,000-plus runs at an average of over 50 while coming down the order makes his statistics even more astonishing.
Live Events
He led India in 200 ODI matches, winning 110, losing 74. Five games were tied, while 11 failed to produce a result. He has a winning percentage of 55. Dhoni has won the
ICC Cricket World Cup
2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013 for India as a skipper.
Dhoni, known as Chennai Super Kings' "Thala" (leader), played 98 T20Is for India, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60, at a strike rate of 126.13. He has two half-centuries in the format, with the best score of 56. He was the winning captain of India's ICC T20 WC 2007 winning team. 'Mahi' led India in 72 T20Is, winning 41, losing 28, one being tied and two failing to produce results. His win percentage is 56.94.
Coming to his long-format career, Dhoni played 90 matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. He scored six centuries and 33 half-centuries, with the best score of 224. He is the 14th-highest scorer for India in Tests.
As a captain, he led India in 60 Test matches, out of which they won 27 matches, lost 18 and drew 15. With a win percentage of 45.00, he is one of India's most successful skippers across all eras. He led Team India to the number one ranking in the ICC Test Rankings. He is also the only Indian skipper to whitewash Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, doing so in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 series.
Dhoni is just as reputable in franchise cricket, being the sixth-highest run-getter in IPL history, with 5,439 runs in 278 matches at an average of 38.30, including 24 fifties, at a strike rate of over 137. He has secured five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles with CSK, making the franchise one of the most popular entities in the sporting world, largely on the basis of his own brand and name. Crowds follow and different fan clubs chant 'Dhoni' 'Dhoni' in unison when the batting legend makes even as much as an appearance inside his dressing room, gearing up for a possible chance at batting.
When Dhoni broke into the national team in 2004, nobody could have imagined the heights the then-23-year-old would go on to achieve as a wicketkeeper-batter. His quickfire stumping and catching abilities, massive sixes, and the trademark helicopter shot will no doubt stay fan favourites for generations to come.

So Long, London or so long, Bill? Jordon Hudson's Taylor Swift lyrics post fuels rumors of split from Bill Belichick
Jordon Hudson's mysterious Taylor Swift message ignites frenzy over Bill Belichick relationship status (Getty Images) Let's be honest—no one expected Bill Belichick to go from Super Bowl mastermind to the center of social media drama. But in 2025, that's exactly where he's landed—and it's not because of a quarterback controversy or game-day call. It's because of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, and one very cryptic Instagram Story set to Taylor Swift 's So Long, London. Jordon Hudson drops Taylor Swift-laced post—Is her relationship with Belichick hitting rocky waters? Jordon Hudson, whose social media persona is just as curated as her jet-setting lifestyle, took to Instagram on July 13 with a moody window shot mid-flight over Bar Harbor, Maine. The soundtrack? Swift's most haunting bre'If Bill and I were to break up, would he co-write a song with Taylor Swift titled: 'buh-bah baa ha ba' ???' Jordon Hudson's Taylor Swift message fuels talk she's dumping Bill Belichick for good (Instagram/jordonhudson and Getty Images) She passed it off as an 'airplane thought,' but let's not pretend this is just some harmless joke. When you pair your relationship with a Taylor Swift breakup track, you're making a statement—even if it's buried in humor. And fans noticed. Quickly. This isn't the first time Jordon Hudson has raised eyebrows. From her awkward CBS interview where she dodged questions about her relationship, to her increasing public presence, it's clear she's no longer just 'Bill's girlfriend'—she's a media figure in her own right. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Concentrated Siberian Ginseng Extract 2oz Superior Ginseng Undo But that spotlight comes with criticism, especially given their 48-year age gap and her sudden rise into tabloid relevance. Even inside UNC's football program, there's reportedly tension. According to insiders, some staff are quietly annoyed by the nonstop attention Hudson brings. What was supposed to be Belichick's quiet reinvention in college football has instead turned into a circus—and Paul Finebaum nailed it on First Take: 'Bill Belichick. Anybody heard of this guy? He's only the most famous NFL coach of all time this side of Vince Lombardi. But lately, he's played second fiddle to his girlfriend.' Ouch! Whether Jordon's post was sarcasm, a subtle cry for space, or a dramatic mid-air vibe check, it's hard to ignore the noise around their relationship. And with Taylor Swift's lyrics adding fuel to the gossip fire, it's clear Belichick's private life is now very public territory. So, can Coach B dial down the drama and focus on UNC's playbook? Or is this just what the second act of a football legend looks like in the age of Instagram and Swifties? Only time will tell. Stokes jokingly reveals Archer watched highlights of Ganguly waving his jersey before delivering sizzling spell against India
London [UK], July 15 (ANI): England Test captain Ben Stokes invoked laughter and revealed that tearaway Jofra Archer watched the highlights of former India captain Sourav Ganguly's famous jersey-waving moment on the Lord's balcony, which served as an inspiration and fuelled him on the final day of the enthralling third Test at Lord's. In his first Test appearance since February 2021, Archer blew away India's hopes of victory in a whisker. Within the blink of an eye, he rattled Rishabh Pant's top of the off-stump with a searing delivery to set the tempo of the day. Pant failed to grasp the rocket that Archer unleashed from his loaded arsenal. He continued to run rampant and lured Washington Sundar to push the ball back into his hands and return for a duck. He finished the second innings with figures of 3/55 as England ended Ravindra Jadeja and India's tail-end's hard-fought resistance to relish a 22-run victory at the 'Home of Cricket'. Stokes was quizzed about Archer's sizzling performance and added a touch of humour with his fancy reply. He revealed that Archer saw Ganguly's iconic moment that unfolded 23 years ago. 'Dada' waved his shirt on the Lord's balcony, an iconic scene from India's memorable NatWest final win in 2002 over England. 'I just said to him this morning, I said, 'You know what today is, don't you? And it was that highlight package from when India knocked off 300-odd back in the day, when Ganguly, he thought that was a World Cup final as well. He thought that was six years today. Genuine. And I was like, no, that World Cup that we won, he was like, oh, that one. Gosh, he's an absolute beauty, that boy,' Stokes told reporters in the post-match press conference. The date July 14 holds special significance for English cricket and its fans. On the same day in 2019, England lifted their maiden ODI World Cup title at the 'Home of Cricket'. Fast forward six years, England felt euphoria after five days of hard work, grit and resilience. On the final day, the equation remained simple: England needed six wickets to cross the line while India stood 135 runs shy of chasing the 193-run target and taking a firm grip on the series. Archer and Stokes bowl in tandem to reduce the beleaguered India from 58/4 to 82/7. Despite the odds stacked against India, Ravindra Jadeja (61*) battled with his sheer class and kept the contest alive by stitching up a valuable stand with Jasprit Bumrah. The duo withstood England for 22 overs before Bumrah holed it to Sam Cook. Mohammed Siraj kept India alive with everything he had in his batting arsenal before enduring a heartbreak after getting bowled by Bashir. (ANI)
