Travis Kelce slams Super Bowl performance: ‘I failed, especially in that last game'
Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce didn't mince words on Wednesday when addressing his play during the 2024-25 regular season and Super Bowl LIX.
'Last year, I think I failed, especially in that last game, in being a leader and being the one that could step up and make plays,' he said while speaking to reporters following minicamp. 'I'm just setting the bar even higher for myself this year than I had in the past.'

Kelce had three touchdowns and 823 receiving yards during the regular season, both career lows. He accounted for one touchdown during the Chiefs' postseason run to an attempted three-peat in the Super Bowl, which ended with a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelce, 35, caught four passes for 39 yards in the loss.
Kelce said he's lost weight and put in more offseason work heading into this season, his 11th.
'This year, I got some time to really focus on some form running and some things early on in the offseason that I just didn't have time for last year,' he said. 'Certainly I'm feeling good, and I think it will pay off.'
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed full confidence in his favorite target after minicamp.
'I expect Travis to be Travis, man,' Mahomes said. 'And obviously the play on the field is going to be high. He's going to go out there with the mentality that we're trying to win the Super Bowl this year.'
Kelce has one year remaining on a two-year, $34.25 million deal that he agreed to last April, which made him the highest-paid tight end in the league. He's spent the entirety of his career in Kansas City after the Chiefs selected him in the third round of the 2013 draft, and he plans to stay put for at least a little longer.
'I can't see myself ever playing anywhere else,' he said. 'So we'll deal with that down the road when the time is right, but right now I'm focused on winning a championship this year.'
